I don't do a lot of mobile transactions, but when I do I use coinbase. However I have been selling quit a bit recently at a local ATM and I really don't like transferring my coin to coinbase just for the sake of mobility. So my question is what are some good android based wallets? That question also brought to mind that there are reviews here on all sorts of hardware, but from what I have found there is no thread on wallet review pros/cons like there are with other things. Anyway, thanks for any suggestions.

Well people rarely use mobile wallets :(
But i would recommend Xapo wallet ;)
Been using it for months and no problem so far, you can send and receive payment from that wallet

I recommend you to use Mycelium. It have an active community and developers. If you run into any problem, just head over to their thread on Bitcointalk. Within a few hours, you will find your answer. Mycelium also have features such as signing messages.


I'm one of the those who use mobile wallets. There's many people who uses mobile wallet like me.

I do use mobile wallet and with the above me comment mycelium is a good choice youll have the control of your private keys unlike to coinbase you dont.

And also xapo based on my own experienced its not really good as mycelium does but transaction fees are free.

And you can also try blockchain wallet.

Definitly BlockTrail wallet ,it's new on the market however it seems pretty good and it use both HD & Multi signature for your privacy and security .

just go to https://bitcoin.org/en/choose-your-wallet website and there click on the mobile tab to see all the wallets available for mobile.
you can choose android, IOS, etc as categories and see the wallets and links for downloading them.
check alternative clients section for more feedback

Most people would use the standard mobile wallet but there are also a number of good alternatives like Universal bitcoin wallet by coinomi that gives you the ability to keep different altcoins.

i always use coinbase,and not matter at all,i dont need more wallet :)

If u like a social wallet then Telegram with GetGems (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.getgemsmessenger.app&hl=en) is the way to go. High rating and the chatting gives the benefit of fast interactions with the community and devs, instant payments within the app to another users don't require long adresses or qr codes and as easy as typing 1 btc and enter, grouppayments/tipping and rewarding too.

You can add me and join our groups, we have troll box, Android/iOS beta testers group, trading group etc. The nice thing is the devs are part of these groups and pretty active and responsive. You can also buy/sell/check balances on Coinbase from the app.

for android mycelium is the best and for ios bither is the best.

I am pretty happy with the Bitcoin Wallet (by Andreas Schildbach) wallet on Android. It's one of the original mobile wallets and works pretty well. I am interested to try BlockTrail wallet though that some people have mentioned.

It's not the best, it depends what you are looking for in a wallet. There are wallets with different niches.

Best android wallets are imo mycelium and getgems.

Best ios wallets are bread wallet and getgems.

Then how can you pay for a coffee or something else when you want to spend your Bitcoin outside? People should use it and we can see more places which accept Bitcoin as payment option.

I have in my Android coinbase and blockchain.info wallets.
Didn't appreciate so much coinbase, I think b.io is way better (i can adjust the fee i want, better stats...)
With coinbase can't figure how to even change the fees.
And i tried mycelium and the bitcoin wallet for 1 day then I removed it.
Personally, i will stick with b.io wallet, i may give a try to blocktrail since users like it.
What do you think about b.io?

Schildbach's wallet is a classic, and it does not rely on a SPV server. It claims to be proper peer too peer.

I also use Blockchain, coinbase and xapo but none beats the security of mycelium when it comes to mobile security.

I'd say that any wallet that supports multisig is more secure than the ones that don't. Mycelium doesn't.

Another vote for Xapo Wallet. You can do the important operations from inside it. However, in iOS it is designed for iPhone 5 or higher, and is a little hard to use in older models. I have an iPhone 4 and it goes slow, have to tap several times to do the different actions, etc.

I'm starting to like these social wallets more and more, i think it's the next gen bitcoin wallets where you can combine bitcoin with communication which is pretty powerfull. It defenetly adds something that i felt was missing with the usual mobile wallets. Since bitcoin is completely digital it goes very well with social networking.

yep, all of the wallets listed there are open source and safe to use. don't try your luck with closed source wallets. you never know what they are capable of doing

If you want ease of use, functionalities and reliability, I highly recommend Andreas Schildbach's Bitcoin Wallet. I've been using it for almost a year now and up until now, I haven't encountered any weird problems or difficulties on using it,

I would recommend you the copay mobile wallet. It is a secure, stable and a  multi signature too. The Circle  mobile wallet is nice too.

I like to use mycelium. What I don't like it's that you can't send from multiple addressed at the same time, but overall it's good.

Blockchain.info is best wallet for everyone.i think everyone should use this online wallet it will never deleted if your mobile format.

blockchain.info is known for its bugs. I don't think why people still choose it as their main wallet? ??? There are other alternatives like Xapo which offers reliability and ease of use. :)

I'm still using blockchain.info since i know bitcoin And i also use exchanger too as my main wallet :D

you are using two bad options as your wallet.
using an exchanger as main wallet is the worst option that you could have chosen. because you don't even have access to your own private keys. so if the exchanger decides to close your account or even runs away, then you are screwed.

But with xapo you have to reveal your identity in order to send payments and get your btc address!
This is the main problem with xapo, once it's removed i may give it a try (again)

Coinbase is an exchange with wallet capacity. You should never use exchanges and online wallets anyways.

I also recommend mycelium, just don't hold big amounts on it!

Why not? I use coinbase as my regular day to day wallet in my PC. I think it is quite fast and reputable.

It's an online wallet! You don't have control over your funds. If something happens to the Coinbase, if someone hacks them or whatever, all your money will be gone. If you use it, at least don't keep big amounts in online wallets.

On the other side, I don't like Coinbase, and many serious bitcoiners don't either. Do a research, Google a bit. Coinbase complies with every damn requirement that government puts in front of them. In their TOS it's stated that they have right to transmit your person info to the governmental officers. They might be as well sending all of their personal customers data to the NSA.

Coinbase goes directly against the all of the decentralization that Bitcoin brings.

Again I repeat, with very small day to day amounts you will be OK.

my favourite mobile wallets are as follows :-

1.  used to like blockchain but they've been promising an update for the longest time to support HD and its still not out, so I've stopped using it until they do.

2.  My favourite is currently AirBitz on both iOS and Android because its easy to use, feels very secure, and it has good ways of authorising new devices (i use multiple mobile devices).  it claims some easy to use two factor auth as well.  of all the wallets I've tried on mobiles recently, this one seems to have the most going for it.

3.  for offline wallets I'm a big fan of the Trezor, and so far the only wallet software I've seen that lets you use the Trezor in a mobile environment is Mycelium (at least on Android), so thats a big vote for mycelium.

4.  Ledger Wallet is doing some very interesting work on mobile wallets.. i especially like the effort they're doing on trustlets.   Their beta of the wallet that runs in the trusted platform (trustonics) looks very interesting.  Promising potentially the security of an offline wallet like Trezor, but built right into the TPM of your mobile phone.  I'm beta testing it on my Samsung S6 Edge and it seems very interesting and potentially huge...  to have the security of a hardware wallet, in software.  unbeatable feature and portable.  It has the potential to blow away all other software wallets.  Not yet ready for prime time, but could be extremely interesting when ready.  (their trustlet currently works with myceilium)

I ended up going with Bitcoin Wallet for android. Thanks for all the responses... I haven't went to bitcoin.org in a while and never would of thought to check there.

Good Mobile walllet/Android wallet , I will recommend Xapo , i ahve been using it over a year now and i find it really safe and convenient to use.
You can enable 2FA to get more security.

CoinBase is a great mobile wallet, been using it for a while now.

i use blockchain as mobile wallet just starting in the bitcoin world
