For some reason I acutally used paypal for doing business across international borders.... now some dood thought it would be funny to rip me off $120 of LCD screens(I even gave him a deal... sigh). And claims that the package I sent him was empty..... Oh gawd... Never again will i make this mistake... long story short i have a negative balance, and knowing paypal I will not get the refund the scamming customer will.

ask him what the complete contents of the box was...then hopefully when you sent it, you have a copy of the receipt and what the weight was... 8)

Would PayPal have covered you under any circumstance? For example, if you had photographic evidence with a pack list and the items shown?

Sometimes.. I've found it's fifty fifty.

I once sold my iPhone 4 via Ebay / Paypal. When the seller received it he says the iPhone 4 was missing (!?!?!?). I used Find my iPhone and found that he received, used and even renamed it to 'Mark's iPhone'. Sent that to PayPal and they marked it in favor of the seller and I'm out of $400.

It's not an evidence since it doesn't prove that you've actually posted it. You'd need to shot continuous video of you packing it, then going to the post office and finally posting it (or handling it to courier). But knowing Paypal, it may not work neither.

Sadly this is the nature of paypal. Scammers galore.

you could have his neighbor take a picture of him with the lcd screen in hand and paypal would still be in his favor. It is the nature of paypal, based on trust alone really. It is nearly impossible to win with them.

Only use PayPal to send your own money. Don't keep a balance there, don't accept payments (unless they are actual Gifts, where you give absolutely nothing in exchange).

The only thing I lost was 2 mini-serial-lcds and now i have a negative balance but good thing i spent (almost) everything right after he sent.... still the negative balance is not morally supporting to see when i log into paypal and in the back of my head. w/e the banks are going down once everyone realises that facebook credits are just as tangible as their USD currency in their bank and once that is realised they will accept Bitcoin.

I hope I get my money back but today I feel that I should just brush this off and keep pushing bitcoin even harder (in a respectable way) to the masses!

First lets start by getting Bitcoin into the firefox spellcheck as being a valid word not Bit coin or Bit-coin as the valid word... that really annoys me.

You should be able to prove at least that you sent something heavy with the receipt you get from the shipping carrier.
They always add a weight of the item to that.

Nope, because nobody intentionally scamming the buyer would send an empty package. They'd always add weight using bags of sugar, slab of concrete or massive kidney stones. There is no sure way of handling this. My memory is fuzzy on this cold Octoberian morning, and I'm light on the details but I remember a good while ago reading about buyer being scammed that way. The guy bought complete Mac desktop computer, or two, with accessories; can't remember exactly what it was, about 5-6 separate items in total, worth about $5k. He received heavy package containting some crap (signed and opened after courier was gone). The seller argued that buyer is lying, and if not, then surely box contents were swapped during transit by someone working for the UPS and buyer should trigger an investigation with them. In that case Paypal sided with seller, it didn't even help that reported box weight didn't match sum of weight of individual components.

I pretty much like practices in some Muslim countries, if you steal, you get your arm chopped off. On the other hand it really sucks for false positives.

Why didn't you claim it stolen with apple? He will probably get arrested.

Makes me now rethink what I sell :-[, and world used to be a better place.
There are chances that people who actually work at post offices would open the package and steal contents. I had to send packages to Russia to my family and on the custom form I always had to write something other than the actual content. Something that would be cheap and people wouldn't be interested in it.

Thankfully I got my monies back and now I don't have a negative balance. I think this only happened because the buyer was to lazy to file a  police report (like paypal requested). Which tells me they were trying to scam me if they don't want to file a police report.
