Title: Keeping your bitcoins safe - Academic Survey 2015
Post by: evillive on September 22, 2015, 10:53:12 PM
Dear fellow Bitcoiners,
I am an MBA student and currently doing my master's thesis about bitcoin wallet safety.
I have compiled a short survey of 12 questions for my thesis. The survey is completely anonymous. This survey is conducted purely for academic research purposes, it does not collect or require any personal information.
The results will be published with my thesis. My goal is to make this thesis to be useful and informative for new bitcoiners. Especially on topics of how to keep bitcoins safe and to understand the differences between bitcoin wallets.

Here is my survey link: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1mAaorD25qOZScIdxo3CfR278ttdu6WOaqlBf8DkSlYM/viewform?usp=send_form

Thank you for participating in this survey,
your feedback is very important for my research. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or comments about this survey: viknesh.pkb@gmail.com

Keeping it safe from hackers or any bad element may come to it. I have this feeling that it might as well be very in demand in the coming years so better keep them safe.

well it is a currency and it has value. so as long as it is worth something in fiat and it is being traded and used, you should keep it as safe as possible.
doesn't matter how much the demand is, the hackers and scammers are always at work!

The questions was easy to answer and I like the fact that you did not need to give any personal information. Some of the first questions should have made provision for multiple answers, but the rest was good. A survey should not take up more than 5 minutes to answer, or people will lose interest.

I would have liked to see a summary of the preliminary results at the completion of the survey to judge your answer against the rest of the people who completed the survey.

I hope you will post your thesis or the result of this survey on this forum.

I've just completed your survey. I would also like to remind everyone that if you lose Bitcoins on a online service then it is your own fault. If you do not own the private keys, then the coins are not yours. I've never lost anything over the years (I think) and the only problematic thing would be a direct hack of my system. However, I do hope that the developers will either integrate better security options or that hardware wallets become cheaper.

I think that people do not realize that Bitcoin is very valuable until you lose it. Honestly, who would keep a lot of $ on a online service if it could get stolen easily? Offline options are the best for Bitcoins that you do not need at the moment, and a hardware wallet if you do.

there's an assumption here that to own bitcoins one needs a wallet, which is not the case.

Completed the survey. Didn't take long. I ecourage all of you guys to do it.

Good job OP! Keep it up!

I think it would be interesting to many here to see the results, I mean statistics of the answers. Personally I am interested the most in one thing: how many ppl are using online wallets(like me).

I is very peculiar to see that people who are studying bitcoin have usually no account here on bitcointalk.
They create account just to post one or two surveys and they are gone after that to never come back.
Pretty sad, we need more bitcoin scientists here. Good survey btw.

Interesting survey... what I am more interested in, is this :

1. How many MBA students are involved with Bitcoin in your campus?
2. Was this thesis given to you by your lecturer or did you chose it yourself?
3. How does Bitcoin fit into your curriculum? Is there study material about Bitcoin or do you use online resources for research?

Give us a bit of background about yourself and what your future goal will be for Bitcoin or Crypto currencies. Give a little and take a lot... ;)

Survey finished.

I showed a clear online wallet bias. I think that it is the option to go with most non-tech users.

thank you for your time.

I´m a bitcoin enthusiast from 2013.  I´m doing my internship in a Bitcoin startup (my thesis will never be biased on my work)

the thesis was my personal choice and my lecturer was also excited to supervise me about Bitcoin

Im planning for a PhD in Bitcoin (didn't decided about the topic yet) only after finishing my thesis i hope i will have a good topic to do :)

Finished as well.  Interesting survey.  Please publish your results, it would be interesting to see them for most of us.

I also am happy to see increased increased academic interest in Bitcoin.  There would seem to be HUGE areas for further research.

The results will be published with my thesis. My goal is to make this thesis to be useful and informative for new bitcoiners.

The  best way to keep your published results useful to bitcoiners is to post them with your thesis on this Forum. Please commit to us in this request. We spend our time and thoughts giving you your research. We do not ask for payment in return. We do ask for the results of the study to be shared with us so we can be educated by our collective responses.

Very, very few people that come here asking for survey responses post their results. Do better than others before you. Thanks.
