Title: [ANN][PiGrid] Easily earn Gridcoin [GRC] with PiGrid - Kickstarter campaign
Post by: Quezacoatl on September 25, 2015, 03:12:53 PM
PiGrid - easily earn Gridcoin with us while you research for the benefit of humanity

Gridcoin is a cryptocurrency that rewards for BOINC contributions which equals research activity on the Berkeley Open Infrastructure for Network Computing (BOINC).

Why mine when you can research?

Gridcoin is the answer to the problem any POW cryptocurrency has: The daily electricity consumption which is only used to run hashing algorithms that do not provide anything else except securing the system itself. So all the energy is used by the System for self-sustainability. Bitcoin uses 15 million US Dollar worth of electricity - EACH DAY (in 2013). (http://www.forbes.com/sites/timworstall/2013/12/03/fascinating-number-bitcoin-mining-uses-15-millions-worth-of-electricity-every-day/) What if you would use that enormous amount of electricity for a good purpose such as climate prediction, SETI or AIDS/cancer/malaria research?

Gridcoin is doing that since 2013 - but it is still small, mostly unknown and COMPLEX to set it up.

PiGrid provides a Plug-n-Play solution to enter the ecosystem of BOINC and Gridcoin either via Raspberry PI (or similar) or a complete mining rig. Check out our kickstarter video:

I guess Chinese mining farms won't give a shit about power consumption.  :D

power consumption should become an important element when we mining a coin

Exactly. Thats why I am so interested in seeing Gridcoin rise in the ranks of coinmarketcap. You can see all the other coins out there. The ones with POW are just wasiting energy by hashing hashing hashing, the ones with pure POS are just sustaining themselves, making the preminers rich in case the currency gets attention.

Okay, there are some coins that really made some steps to become a nice currency with exceptional features but imagine a currency where server farms will be build because its WORTH to do so. And those serverfarms are not hashing or scrypting or whatever, they are researching for good! No other currency except Gridcoin can do that on a broad variety of research areas. Cancer, AIDS, Malaria research! Particle physics! Climate prediction or clean energy research!

I fall in love with Gridcoin every day again :D And PiGrid can help anyone to participate easily. Of course, if you got the time and resources, you can also work yourself into Gridcoin and BOINC by yourself!

SO HOW DO I GET IN ON THIS?

You can back us in the kickstarter, so you pledge your money and if we get our target money or more pledged by backers, we will send you your reward for which you paid in ~ late November.
In case you want the complicated way, you can visit the main development forum and find a way to mining Gridcoin yourself: https://cryptocointalk.com/forum/464-gridcoin-grc/

energy issues are very sensitive. if you believe the early dev?

I am sorry, I probably did not get that commment right. What do you mean, whether I believe Gridcoins dev to solve all energy issues of blockchain technology? Well, I can actually see my computers use the electricity to calculate research work units and I can also see my Gridcoin wallet getting a higher balance every day so yes, I believe we are going into the right direction here!

Besides, Robert Halford has accumulated quite a record in the past 24 months:
his effort is relentless, all the while he is responsive to input.
moreover, innovation cycles are short, some days there were multiple updates to the codebase.
Gridcoin is rising ;)

I hope this kicks off. Is it profitable to mine GRC at the moment (via BOINC projects not PoS)?

Price of GRC has increased quite a bit over the past month, so I would say that it is, at least for me. Of course it depends on what kind of hardware you are running and the cost of electricity in your area.

I hope this kicks off. Is it profitable to mine GRC at the moment (via BOINC projects not PoS)?

Wasn't there a coin called gridcoin already? I'm sure I saw one. Perhaps I'm wrong I don't know. I really hope this coin does well. We need more coins :)

There's only 1 Gridcoin and the PiGrid team is part of it.
