Title: Using Storage Box Services to Host Bitcoin Mining SErvices
Post by: jackg on September 26, 2015, 10:13:04 PM
Has anyone thought about using companies such as www.bigyellow.co.uk to store and run bitcoin miners for a monthly fee that may be less than the cost of the iners.

This is actually a pretty good idea. If you could get power inside the unit and internet. I mean I know the storage unit in the usa can get pretty cheap. even climate controlled ones. I think the problem would be internet and power. If you could get those I think it would be a win win.

I contacted big yellow and they said they wouldn't discuss power tariffs over the phone. However they charge £445 for a double socket. And £220 for fitting of a phone line. With a 400sq foot storage for only £170 a week. Deals any better in other countries?

Don't think Big Yellow have climate control however, for a 11 sqare foot you can expect to pay around £50 which is probably around 75 USD.

I just went online and found that giffgaff do a contract with a sim for unlimited everything for £20 a month which could possibly be used for internet! All i need to do now if find out the power costs! Could also get unlimited data from EE for £17 a month (inclusive of 4G) but don't think that would make much of a difference with bitcoin mining?

This is a good idea, but since this is designed to just for storage and they will allow internet cables and electric lines to go in, what about the person who will man the miners during operations? Are they going to allow them to stay there?

Depends on your objective, if its to run two 1 Th miners and loose money every month and just collect a half a bitcoin a month to save for a rainy day, its a great idea, however if you want to actually do more than that it is not.

Heat.. Summer will overheat, winter will be fine in the north
2 TH of mining power max on a 20 amp circuit if its dedicated to you, which its not, so it will pop the circuit when your neighbor uses his power drill on the same circuit as you...

Gross profit, $120 bucks   (per 20 amp dedicated power circuit) /mo.
Expenses, Internet power rent  $50+$250+$75
Monthly losses .;;; you get the idea, i don't really have to add it up for you do I? lol

so now you have all the info you need before going into the Self Storage Mining Businesses =)
