Title: Bought a Drone! My border agency is holding it!
Post by: Blawpaw on September 29, 2015, 12:07:43 PM
I recently bought a drone at gearbest. This drone came equipped with 2mb pixel cam.
Today, I found out that my Border import control agency is holding it.
Why the hell would they do that if I'm in Europe and it came from the Netherlands??

Different countries have different regulations, requirements and legal limits in relation to drones.
In the Republic of Ireland for example: The IAA (Irish Aviation Authority) policy is that unmanned aerial systems may not be flown without the operator receiving a specific permission from the IAA.

This might help:

But thats a regulation for UAV's, which are basically unmanned planes.

OP is probably talking about something like this;
http://i.ebayimg.com/images/i/321351516465-0-1/s-l1000.jpg

Which has nothing to do with UAV regulations. Its basically a copter for kids you get at Toy's R Us.

No, actually any drone is an Unmanned aerial vehicle.

...and they fall under a completely different bracket of regulation: read: none. :P

The regulations are for air traffic area. Small/toy flying things you fly around your house absolutely have nothing to do with air traffic, if the drone could somehow reach air traffic zones then sure, i guess it would apply.

It seems that it has nothing to do with regulation. The border agency randomly holds packages, so I guess I got bad luck. To retrieve it I'll have to show the invoice and my papers!

That's a good news!  :) At least where you live you don't need a license to have a drone.
Can't wait for pictures made with that 2m pixel camera. )

Next time come over on a boat via Syria and you'll be able to keep your drone... No questions asked.

Gotta buy the plans, then the parts piece by piece, then assemble it yourself.

:)

Yep, you got it. The camera is actually a 2mp camera! I bought it just to learn how to fly and probably then will be buying a more professional one! Besides the entertainment, it has a lot of business potential  ;)
