It would be in TB if not even higher, One of my websites uses 20 TB bandwidth a month and is nowhere close to the size of this forum so you can do the math

traffic has nothing to do with storage, the same file may be downloaded several times

The forum is probably a lot smaller than you would think as it is all stored as strings in databases, rather than individual pages, much like every other forum software. The size would probably be less than 1TB, though I'm not exactly an expert at this sort of stuff.

Well according to the forum stats there are 12537598 posts on this forum. Along with the posts text it has to store user information and other stuff, so I would estimate an average of about 1.5KB of storage per post. That works out to about 18.8GB, which I would think is the size of the database. Another 3GB for OS and another 1GB or so for SMF/other applications brings it up to around 22.8GB - thats my guess, not including logfiles/backups/caches.

I have a forum with little over 1M posts and DB is 1.4 GB (not SMF though, the SMF log tables might be bigger), so according to that this forum's DB should be ~17.5 GB.

SMF is only 6.5 MB but the biggest data will be from the avatars.

Between 20-30 GB for storage sounds correct.

I don't think the database would be huge either. The 30GB estimate from NLNico sounds like a fair estimate. Don't think it would be up in the terabytes because you have to remember that Bitcointalk only stores text in posts,  as well as all user data. You can't upload images or videos to the site to show in posts, like some other forums, which saves a ton of space.

However it would be nice to get an accurate number from an admin here, I'm curious about the actual size as well.

The full compressed backup containing the database, code, config files, etc. is currently 2.9 GB.

Ok that doesnt be that big as I thought. But the most is plain text offcourse and that doesnt take up that much space.

Really puts the whole thing into perspective, huh? It's good that this (and probably many other forums) cannot be stopped, thanks to backups and the ease of data storage. If the forums server was completely deleted, I'm sure it would take less than a week to have it up and running again. Technology truly is amazing.
