Title: Theymos - IP Needs Unbanning
Post by: marcotheminer on October 03, 2015, 06:12:25 PM
Hi Theymos. The forum's DDOS service has banned (mistakenly) my signature campaign bot which sends PMs through the account 'AutoSigBot'.

I've sent you the IP which needs to be unbanned. Thank you!

What interval between forum actions do you have set up on the bot?

What interval between forum actions do you have set up on the bot?

AFAIK they have been over this and the bot follows the 1 action per second rule.

Yes, as far as I know the bot respected this rule.

If you have sent him the pm then what is the need to create a thread here as he can just see your pm and do the needful ???

Theymos is very busy and tends to miss a handful of PM(s) because of this. He gets a ton of PM(s) daily which can be problematic especially in combination with limited time.

Why don't you simply ask for a new IP address from your VPS provider and/or create a new VPS that is on a new IP address?

I think that would be more of a band-aid.   It might allow it to work for hours or weeks.  The problem is not that simple as it bans the IP for something.

So not having a way to know what caused it, it would happen over and over most likely.  If this IP can be unbanned and whitelisted or something were forum does not future ban.  It works out better long term.

Yes, that would be ban evasion thing, this will work better than ignoring the rules.
Goodluck marco on getting the bot back! The bot seems to get errors very often and the people's post don't get counted, but we always get paid!

That might be the place to start then. If the bot is buggy as mentioned then I wouldn't be putting my faith in it following the 1 page per second rule. There are a few other bots on the forum that have been around for quite awhile without ever having ban issues, so I think the bot coding should probably be looked at and refined to make sure it won't get banned again in the future (if the IP is ever unbanned).

There should not be any problem really on bot with number of posts. If you are getting this PM macro or bitcoin boy.   The blockchain.info caused some payments to be delayed, and of course Malleability attacks.  But they are always fixed and paid.  It really is a good campaign.

This I think is just a issue is just with the bot that sent PM's.  It would send a PM each time you get a payment, and that is what hes trying to get IP unbanned so it works again.

I am assuming the account is not banned, which is what I get from marco's post, however if the account is banned, then marco posting could be considered ban evasion.

From what I get from this thread is that the IP address associated with the bot is not able to access the forum, possibly because it's frequency of accessing the forum caused the anti-DDoS provider to mistake the bot for someone who is trying to DDoS the forum.

A solution to prevent this from happening in the future with another IP address would be to have the bot access the forum less frequently, and/or have the bot access the forum from more the one IP address and/or use additional manual work to prevent campaign participants from making large number of low quality posts and otherwise disrupting the forum.

I don't know if that is standard but isn't changing IP usually cost money? Not to mention to buy new VPS service?
If he can unblock it directly via forum, it will be cost free for him.

Depends on the VPS some charge by number.  So if you drop the current one... then add back might get a new ip for cheap.

But again that goes back to band-aid fix.  If it does it again and again not really good solution.  Best solution is a unbanning and I hope whitelist of the IP addresss.  But the good thing is this is just the part that sends out PM's so it did not really make bot come to standstill.  So could be worse.

Well as I implied in my previous post, the action (or lack thereof) may be a result of the poor performance of the participants of bit-x......this is of course speculation

Oh wow, never knew I would get a PM when I get my payment?!
Never got one since I have been accepted into the sig campaign. (Joined at about end of September or start of October)
