Title: Bitcoins magically appeared in my wallet
Post by: jacee on October 05, 2015, 01:17:30 PM
Sorry for the title, I don't know the words to describe what happened. LOL. :D

Recently I have a 0.09+ btc on my mycelium wallet.
I sent a 0.005 btc to someone and then it appeared 2 transactions. 1 confirmed and the other said no confirmation.

Then I checked my wallet. The 0.09 btc - the 0.005 btc I sent, I supposed to have 0.085 btc left in my wallet but I saw my wallet turned 0.14+ btc .

I looked for any transactions but no I didn't find any as to where the 0.08+ btc came from.

Is this because of the blockchain problem?

Can I still send the coins in my wallet to another wallet with this status or should I wait for a moment until my coin counts turns back to what it's supposed to be which is 0.085 btc?

Sorry for the dumb question here.
I'm still a noob when it comes to bitcoins so I don't know that much.

Yes it should be because of the blockchain / Double spends problem , you can read more about it on CoinKite : http://blog.coinkite.com/post/130318407326/ongoing-bitcoin-malleability-attack-low-s-high

Enjoy your bitcoins and wait at least one day to do actions with your wallet. It is an malleability attack which probably cause this things. It is a thread open today about this malleability. Find this thread (I don't have the link) and follow it. When the attack will finish you can be sure about your actions with your bitcoins.

Edit: I see that the post above mine has one link. There is another thread here in bitcointalk which are following this malleability. So the link above is not that I suggested you. Follow both the links if you want.

I see, so basically the doubling of the coins in my wallet is not real at all? I still have the original anount of coins?

Thank you both for responding and I will be following those threads.

Sucks that this happen at thia moment as I have some upcoming payments to be made.

anyway. Thanks again.

I do see this kind of appearance in my Multibit wallet (Not HD wallet). When you have more than one address in your multibit wallet, if you receive multiple payments to multiple addresses, then in transaction multibit usually show only one transaction combining all amounts as a single  transaction.
Same way when you send to multiple address(say some 10 outputs), from one single address in block-chain you can see 11 outputs. (The extra one is for remaining balance to input address). But Multibit showed me that remaining balance transaction as an incoming transaction.
So when I sent multiple payments, I ended up with an incoming transaction. But checked in explorer, nothing unexpected happened.

Correct. Your wallet is just confused.

As long as one of the transactions is confirmed you can reset the wallet.

Swipe left to see your HD Account. Select the one with the problem. Go to the menu top right and select "Reload Account". It should rescan all data, remove the conflicted transaction and show you the correct balance. You might have to redo this for every transaction once one of the twin TX got confirmed.

Im not entirely sure what you talk about, but it sounds like you confuse the issue with something that may be cause by change. If you have a question about multibit I suggest you post it here -> https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=99.0

As the problem is most likely in your wallet you can use another one, if it's from blockchain no problem that's happen sometimes

I have withdrawn two amounts from two different investing sites that tend to work always, and did not work.

I am wary of sending anything until this is solved.

This might be the best option, especially if you are not technically sound and don't want to mess with all of the reloading and re-scanning. Just wait few days for situation to settle down, of course if you don't need to move your funds urgently.

I am doing the same thing, just laying low and waiting.

The malleability attack is currently on hold[1], we dont know when it might return.

The coins in my wallet turned back to it's original numbers now. I left it alone all night and this morning when I checked the double spent transaction is already gone  Turns out my wallet is just confuse. Thanks!
