Title: Non-bitcoin forums discussing bitcoin
Post by: BitCoinDream on October 08, 2015, 03:15:09 PM
It is no wonder that bitcoin forum will discuss bitcoin. But, there are non-bitcoin forum discussing bitcoin. And there are huge amount of misconception being spread. I just thought of sharing a few such instances. May be you can add up more or go to the respective forum to help a new bitcoiner to understand bitcoin better.

At check out, I had to prion to pay by card, PayPal, or Bitcoin. I want to bitcoin.org, mad an account and set up my bank link, much like how PayPal does it. Then I transferred funding directly from my bank to Bitcoin.

I have no idea where this person took the wrong turn, but I dont think it makes sense to swam other boards and explain bitcoin to people that obviously do not care. If you have been on bitcoin.org and you still think bitcoin is something like paypal it means you did not bother reading the bare minimum of what the site has to offer.

The: use fiat buy bitcoin -> use bitcoin -> payment processor sells bitcoin -> sends fiat to merchant cycle makes no sense anyway.

Though price has dropped, things have changed a lot in last two years or so... No online forum can deny the presence of bitcoin anymore, because almost everywhere some people are using it, though they are still small in number. By the way, from which forum you were banned for discussing bitcoin ?

I have begin topics for bitcoin in many technological forums in Greece. In the half of them i was banned :P and that happens in one year ago when the people was not well informed about bitcoin. Now i see less haters when i write about bitcoin.

Great news. The general sentiment about Bitcoin is better and better every year. This is important. Well this and of course development.

We should concentrate on things like this, news like this much more than worrying about price. Price will follow normally in we do the things as we are supposed to, and people discussing us everywhere is definitely a good direction that we are headed to.

This is very positive thing happening about Bitcoin to be discussed on various platforms.I also where ever see possibility write little bit about Bitcoin. We all are ambassadors of Bitcoin to take the word as far as we can on all platforms whether they are online or offline.I am glad to see this change what is taking place slowly but steadily.

Could Facebook groups be considered as a forum? :v We often discuss about bitcoins and the services appearing that cater the needs of customers when it come to bitcoins. Also, some local forums (such as Symbianize) are open to know more about bitcoin and are willing to read the bitcoin wiki just to learn more about this new tech. I'm happy that for a year that I've been promoting bitcoin in some of my friends and a wider audience, none of them expressed severe negativity about the matter (bitcoins) not unlike others in here.

One of the biggest dutch tech websites (tweakers.net) used to have a dedicated forum for cryptocurrencies.

Unfortunately, after the 2013 hype, it started dying out and people there moved on and the forum part got removed.

They even published some articles on altcoin mining :)

I see bitcoin has become popular on MMO rwt forums due to the ease of transaction and no chargebacks.

MMO forum were the first that cought up with bitcoin. But, that is expected as bitcoin directly benefits them. The interesting thing is, non-money forum are now discussing bitcoin as well. :)

What you can expect from people, who are claiming to have sent their bank balance to bitcoin ?

The people from other forums are talking about Bitcoin because BTC is the main e-currency now. Those forums were created long before this forum. They talked about e-gold, osgold and LR in the past.

Almost all the HYIPs, MLM and others moved to BTC. Some of them are called Forex but it's the same... :)

That's why other "non-btc" forums are  discussing bitcoin. There are no other e-currencies on market who deserve their attention.
BTC is trendy for now :)

i was looking at phpbb topic...the moderator consider some bitcoin links as spam and most member bias toward silk road news ("bitcoin is for criminal!")
it is sad to see this, we need more bitcoin community, i think, in non-bitcoin forum.

Well, Bitcoin has a bad reputation because it's mainly use for "stuffs/things" :)

I said mainly and not 100% :)

bitcoin is being discussed more and more all over the place. one of the problems with new things is that because people dont understand it and they do not like to look ignorant they try and find a way to ridicule it or discredit it. i9ts safer than risking looking foolish, or like someone who has been dazzled by a fad. this is something that a lot of people applied to bitcoin, but it is changing. they are starting to understand the underlying tech and versatility, the basic utility and the advantages of this new tech... they will soon embrace it fully and declare they knew all along, just like everything else.

the movie about the dark web, whereas maybe it wasn't that positive a PR thing for bitcoin, definitely got the conversation going. I was at a family gathering recently and a few relatives were asking me to explain the dark net. they know i'm into btc so they thought id know all about it...

all it says to me is, these things are trickling into the mainstream

I hate to talk about bitcoin outside bitcoin-related forums, they always talk/think bad about bitcoin, they even think every bitcoiner is terrorist or criminal :(
Or they interested in bitcoin, but they often share their refferal links to HYIP, ponzi cloud mining, cloud mining, gambling sites & faucet without tell them details about it. So, many people got scammed because those people >:(

Also, many people who worked at PTC, MLM, HYIP, money games, captcha & others interested in bitcoin & left their old jobs

But I love to. When I write more about bitcoins I gather more attention than my usual topics. Many people now a days pay attention on new technology to show themselves updated on their society or social medias. Over all, bitcoin spreading everywhere rapidly. A good sign.

if they are spreading false info due to their lack of knowledges, then it's not good at all, from what i've read on the web it seems that people still treat bitcoin as investment, only

it does not come through their mind even once, that maybe it was meant to be used as a payment system, they are too accustomed to fiat, i think you need a new generation for changing this..

Wow!  It was interesting to read for a change.

Take this for example:

personally, I would suggest that anything to do with bitcoin would be spam at the very least. I doubt seriously if it will even be around much longer considering the attention it is gettin by law enforcement around the world. It is being used extensively for illegal reasons.

robert

and then a reply:

I totally agree with Robert .... It is being used extensively for illegal reasons and it saddens me to see celebrities express their support for it e.g. Sir Richard Branson.

Bitcoin is the perfect way to pay for drugs and weapons when you wish to stay anonymous! Let's help the criminals!!

Maybe we should have an Anti-Bitcoin section in this forum. C'mon! It's fun to read for a change.  :)

It is no wonder that bitcoin forum will discuss bitcoin. But, there are non-bitcoin forum discussing bitcoin. And there are huge amount of misconception being spread.

Well there's nothing new there. The general public are generally quite ignorant on most matters and they only get their news from mainstream media who only really highlight the negative aspects and probably have their own agenda. If they were intelligent and did their own research they wouldn't have such negative opinions.

Most of the forums I've been participating has a dedicated section for cryptocoins auch as bitcoins. Be it a local or an international forum, there is one. Also some discussion forums that don't mainly discuss money making has some people who discuss about bitcoins.

The knowledge of bitcoin has been spreading fast so expect to see it anywhere else. It's a good sign, isn't it?

Someone who is interested in Bitcoin shouldn't have any problems to find this forum here or any other Bitcoin related sources.
When I type Bitcoin in google search bar the links on first site for me are bitcoin.org, bitcointalk.org, bitcoin.com, coindesk ...So no problem to find sources with good and honest content about Bitcoin and therefore no reason to spread out to non Bitcoin platforms.
People who are really interested and want to learn and participate will find us. All the others are just sh**heads talking bs like most of the media out there and have no real interest.

I know what you mean. Talking in public, like in a cafe, with a few friends of mine about Bitcoin, and some others in the cafe hear what I'm talking about I feel their looks.
This shows me that people have heard about Bitcoin. But sadly only the negative things published by media. But everybody I explain and show to how Bitcoin works is really fascinated. However most of them still fear to own a few bits.
Bigger Adoption will take a long long time. But I am patient. :)
