Hopefully it won't come to that, but I'll defend anyone in danger of death. ._.

Always best to be prepared to defend yourself, just in case nobody else can, though ;)

I'll try... "Please only nominate locations where we can freely carry concealed weapons".. are we going to take somebody out?  Cuz i am fine with that, just like to know before hand.

Ugh, no. I gave the reason in the opening post: so those who always carry on principle aren't dissuaded from coming.

Alright, cool, I know you got my back, man <3 Thanks for the luf! Add me to the list as "maybe". I just don't know where I can legally get a weapon as I am only 16. -_-

Wut? Getting a weapon or a situation where a weapon would be needed?

I'd say it's pretty unlikely you need a weapon on any given single day.

Correction, this will take place on the week of Nov 19th, not Nov 5th. Sorry about that!

Also, forrestv (p2pool) might be coming too :)

The current consensus (among me, gmaxwell, luke-jr, forrestv) is that the meetup should be held at my house, which is near to UCF (university of central florida). It has a living room and patio and kitchen, and also wifi, otherwise not a terribly special venue. I'll have a bunch of drinks and food, but it can be a potluck too. It is okay with me if you concealed-carry a firearm, as long all guests are aware.

Just a heads up, in the state of Florida, it is illegal to possesses a firearm at any location that sells alcohol for consumption on the premises.  This includes a CCW permit.  So don't plan on visiting any bars or restaurants while carrying.

Yep, that's why bars are automatically excluded. However, at least the courts have interpreted the law to NOT include restaurants beyond a special section set aside for alcohol (eg, Olive Garden has a "bar" type area).

Florida also lets you keep a loaded gun in your car without a permit. As long as it's holstered or in something with a lid.

If it's private property, anyone can concealed or open carry without a permit as well.

Is there a definite date yet? I'd like to come if it fit in my schedule. I've been sick since July, I have a crap ton of dr appointments and tests that week.

Well, not exactly.  It's basically referred as the 3-step rule.  It must take 3 distinctive steps to bring the firearm to a fire-able state.  The 3 separate step are not specified, as long as it can be reasonably conceived as 3 steps.  Having it loaded, within arms reach (under the seat, etc) is totally illegal.

For me the 3 steps are, remove from glovebox, load the clip, chamber a round.

There no 3 step in Florida it is merely "securely encased" meaning holstered, or inside of something with a lid you have to lift.

Quote
Section 790.001(17) defines the term "securely encased" to mean "in a glove compartment, whether or not locked; snapped in a holster; in a gun case, whether or not locked; in a zippered gun case; or in a closed box or container which requires a lid or cover to be opened for access."

I don't recall where in the law, but IIRC there was a problem with having it mere snapped in a holster on your body (in a vehicle) without a CCW license.

Yup, thanks everyone for coming out. Gigavps, luke-jr and his wife, tony from bitpay, gmaxwell, pigeons, john_murdock, forrestv, and my friend paul attended. We ate chicken, told stories, drank beer, and fawned over the new issue of bitcoin magazine. I did some bitcoin christmas shopping. No one brandished any weapons or broke my stuff. A+ would host again

Too bad it was during the week.  I definitely would have been down to drive down there & join.  Not to mention I'm trying to convince a friend of mine to write up a story for orlando news about bitcoins & having interviewees setup would probably help.  Oh well, maybe next time.
