Just to be perfectly clear, the ONLY files I need a backup copy of are my wallet.dat in my bitcoin folder, and my wallet.dat in my litecoin folder. Then to restore in the fresh windows, I'll just reinstall the wallets, and copy the wallet.dat's into their respective folders. I know this is right, I just have to ask as I would not be too thrilled if I lost my coins. But backing up the blk*.dat files would be a good idea too, as it will save you from having to download the whole blockchains again (be sure to enable "Detach databases at shutdown" if you're using Bitcoin 0.6.2 or later).
