Bump. Still looking. I've had a few people PM me, but none of them actually have PGP custody docs so far.

Please don't PM me unless you actually have a chain of custody for your coin -- it's useless to discuss the sale otherwise, as I'm not interested in random coins without a custody chain.

STILL LOOKING.

Offering above-market rates.

What are market rates these days?

Last auction I saw went for 1.3; there's another auction happening right now that's currently around the same. I'm willing to pay 0.5-1.0 above market rate for a good coin w/ docs.

Quick question what is required in a chain of custody and why? If you own a coin is that not enough?
By the way I dont have this coin to sell.

@OgNasty, did he said no or he is not responding? If later, do you have any idea when he was around last time?

Basically each owner of the coin, starting from Casascius, should PGP-sign the message that he owned the coin and passed it over to the next owner, so you can see the full history of which hands it passed through. It's helpful with fighting potential fakes.

I have tried to contact him recently with no luck either. I guess Mike is not wanting to deal with these sorts of requests any longer.

It might be distracting I'm sure if he is randomly getting contacted by people every once in a while. I wonder if, instead, it would be possible to organize a "group signing", so i.e. once per 6 or 12 months people would gather their requests to a representative and he will pass it all-at-once to Mike. Everybody could probably agree to pay some fee. I guess we would need someone who knows Mike, so he can present him the idea.

Maybe it has been so long that he doesn't feel comfortable signing them anymore.  Perhaps the best way to prove the chain of custody now is to publicly link to group buys and auction threads...

I would definitely participate with multiple coins if he did a final group signing though.

This database you're suggesting sounds useless as a replacement for custody chains

Can't custody chains be embedded into the blockchain info of the btc in question?

You'd still need Mike's signature, which is the original problem.

Honestly baffled as to why people didn't get on this when they had the chance.

I only tried just to sell you a coin above market rates  ;D. I really do not care about a chain for my coins.

Probably following:
  • not knowing this is possible
  • not feeling this is important
  • negligence (as in my case)

I think whether you fancy to have the chain yourself or not, it is better to have it, at least because that could make the price of the coin slightly higher. As the time will go on, years will pass, there would be plenty of time for scammers to create great-looking fakes and having properly signed docs could became more and more valuable.

I don't think Casascius have yet explicitly said that he is not signing anymore so perhaps it's not completely lost yet? I wouldn't expect him to do it until the end of his life, but it would be great if he can at least give a warning that it's going to end at some specific date. I'm thinking about creating another topic here dedicated just to PGP docs where we could count how many people are interested and perhaps we could find someone who knows Mike and can talk with him about it - to just do it one last time :). As said before, I'd happy to pay some reasonable fee for each coin signed.

Same here.  I ordered mine directly from Casascius, so I'm not worried about it.  If it's going to increase the value in other people's eyes though, I figure I might as well get them signed if given the opportunity.

And I'm STILL offering above market rates...  PGP docs = free money...

Most of my coins are first-hand purchases, but I recently managed to become second owner of some silvers with docs. Probably put different prices on them based on the length of the custody chain at some point, although truthfully I'm almost done selling.

Well first, you have a very limited version of 0.1 silver Casascius

Then it was only for sale for about a month (maybe 2)

And the docs well it took me months to get mine. I think it took exactly 4-5 months.

Mike appears to be very busy or just prefers to focus his time on other things. I can't blame the guy.

smoothie, would you be willing to share when (more-less) did you inquired for your docs and when you have received them? Was it in last few months by any chance?

Requested my PGP chain of custody doc from Mike C. in march or april.

I got them in June or July

Rough estimate.

edit: To be honest it took several emails to remind him about it as well to get it finished.

I think he is just got lots to deal with (family etc.). Hence he has not been active lately.
