Title: Overstock.com CEO supports Ron Paul...asking for questions for a conference cal
Post by: Elwar on October 28, 2012, 03:15:43 AM
During an interview, Overstock.com CEO Patrick Byrne declared that he would be writing in Ron Paul for the election.

"The Company will hold a conference call .... on Monday, October 29, 2012 at 11:30 a.m. Eastern Time.... Please email questions to Kevin Moon at kmoon@overstock.com prior to the conference call.

It may be a good idea to ask them to start accepting Bitcoin at overstock.com

1) Done, I'll need to listen to the earnings conference call.

2) Need to see my dentist

3) Need to buy me some Overstock stock...  They're up over 30% the past few days!

Here's my e-mail:

Subject: Ron Paul endorsement - Bitcoin next?

Kevin,

Given your recent endorsement for Ron Paul for president <http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oDs6KfuIIwU>, does this mean you are open to adding Bitcoin as a payment option for www.overstock.com?

I'm assuming you are aware of the advantages bitcoin can bring to your business by reducing fraud and decreasing transaction costs.  Ron Paul recently offered his support for bitcoin in an interview (among other options that can compete with the Fed).

Let me know if you are interested in additional information as you are preparing to answer questions on this Monday's quarterly earnings call.

Man of they actually started accepting bitcoins this would represent a huge slap in the face of those who retort to the suggestion of using bitcoins with "Why should I? You can't buy anything with bitcoins.."

Gl guys, don't forget to let them know about bitpay or similar services that eliminate any risks associated with the exchange rate volatility.

I CC'ed Tony on my e-mail.

I tried to slow play it.  I'll cover some of those details if I get a response.

Overstock.com CEO not only supports Ron Paul but instead of going with the flow of the typical American sheep is enlightened enough to understand that throwing his vote away for one of the two monopoly party candidates is just an exercise in servitude. While others would deride him for "throwing away his vote" by voting for someone who will obviously not win, he wears it proudly.

Ron Paul's main campaign issue is an end to the Federal Reserve. The Federal Reserve and the world banks have their hand in just about every aspect of world economic and monetary policy.

Bitcoin also goes against the central control of the Federal Reserve and those banks.

It would be a natural thing for someone who supports Ron Paul to also support Bitcoin.

Considering overstock.com caters to hundreds of thousands of consumers and offers a wide range of products. Their accepting of Bitcoin would be huge.

There is also the fact that Patrick Byrne and overstock.com have been fighting Goldmann Sach's Merryl Lynch and others in a lawsuit for quite some time:

The replay seems to be 15 minutes worth of elevator music.  Did anyone listen in yet?

Please post a link to a working replay if you find one.  Thanks!

I think I'll start buying stuff from overstock.  Haven't ever really used them but I would love to support this company.

So...do we know of any other CEOs that supported Ron Paul?

It looks like our e-mails worked for Overstock.

This is from 2012...before Overstock started accepting Bitcoin.

I bumped because this approach worked to get a major company to accept Bitcoin.
