Title: Failure of FAN RPM sensor in 6950?
Post by: crazy_rabbit on October 29, 2012, 08:14:30 AM
Here's a quick tech question- one of my cards is no longer reading any fan speed in cgminer. It lists 0%. On the card itself the fan is clearly still spinning, and in addition the card is not overheating (I've got it in a cold space) but it's mining at full power.

Obviously long term I should be a bit worried, but the card is under warrenty so I can get it taken care of. What I'm curious is about is if this is an indication as to the health of the fan itself at all or it if's just a sensor error. The card is about 4 months old. The fan has run a lot, but I did not keep it at 100% the whole 4 months.

any thoughts?

What brand GPU?

I've seen the temp sensor be way off.  Haven't seen a fan sensor showing 0 unless someone did a repair to the fan or the fan was dead.

have you rebooted the computer? sometimes if you use bad risers, it loses communication with the card briefly and it can screw up reading sensors. rebooting sometimes temporarily fixes it.
