Title: How many units of each type of ASIC Bitcoin miner exists in the world? Post by: adaseb on October 17, 2015, 11:09:04 AM Just wondering how many units of each miner might exist in the world.
Looking at the Antminer S1, did Bitcoin really sell that many units of that miner? It was their first miner and they probably produced a small amount before the new BM1841 chip came out (Antminer S3) It seems that the S2,S3,S4,S5 sold in large numbers. The SP equipment unless its the Sp20, also sold in small numbers. The Avalon you rarely hear of that equipment. My estimation are Antminer S1 - 10,000 Units Antminer S2 - 25,000 Units Antminer S3 - 50,000 Units Antminer S4 - 10,000 Units Antminer S5 - 50,000 Units SP10 - 500 Units Sp20 - 2000 Units SP30/35 - 250 AVALON 4.1 - 2500 Units Dragon 1TH Miners - 10,000 Units KNC Saturn/Jupiters - 10,000 Units KNC Neptune 10,000 Units Title: Re: How many units of each type of ASIC Bitcoin miner exists in the world? Post by: alh on October 18, 2015, 01:16:12 AM As I understand it, the Bitmain miners had the following ASIC chips:
BM1380 = S1/S2 BM1382 = S3/S4/U3 (maybe S4+?) BM1384 = S5/S5+ (Also GeckoScience Compac stick miner). BM1385 = S7 There were also the Dragon miners with Insilicon A1 parts. Where did the BabyJet's originate from? Where those also KNC? I don't know how you would begin to get an accurate count. I also think there were additional Spondoolies products beyond those you listed. I also don't know where the bitFury ASIC's fit into the picture or the miners they showed up in. IMO the S1 would the most bought.. lots of those moved around followed by the S3. Title: Re: How many units of each type of ASIC Bitcoin miner exists in the world? Post by: larry12 on October 19, 2015, 06:40:00 PM im pretty sure sp30/35 is produced in much bigger numbers

Post by: QuintLeo on October 22, 2015, 10:35:45 PM The only real way to know would be to get figures from each manufacturer - and even that might be an issue since some have gone out of business, and some might want to "fudge" the sales figures to make themselves look better.
Given the many issues with the Neptune, though, I'd guess your guess is somewhat on the high side for that unit. I'd also guess your SP20 number is low, given the price war between those and the S5 that happened for a while. I remember seeing the S4+ being listed as using the BM1382. Bitfury definitely made and sold a bunch of chips but I doubt if they ever designed a board much less a miner for anyone but their own usage stuff (MBP and close associates might be an exception there given they were working together for at least a while). |
