Title: Improve my mining profit
Post by: sandy56 on October 19, 2015, 01:31:57 PM
I have a simple mining rig with one AMD XFX Radeon R9 280 graphics card.
OS - Windows 7 64 bit using sgminer.

At present, I have been mining the Lyra2REv2 on the NiceHash pool at 3.36MH/s.
This pays me about $2.50 a week.
Heck, I can make that much clicking on the faucets. The ones that pay, that is.

Since I am just learning, I do not mind the lack of profit but would now like to learn more and improve it if I can.

Can my hash rate be increased perhaps or should I consider going solo?
Should I consider different equipment? My budget is very low.

Do you have cheap electric? if so you can buy a antminer s3 for under 80 usd on ebay. I would get you earning at least 1 usd a day. that would help alot. If overclocked it would get you over 500 g/hs.

Trade you bitcoin on large movement on price. It will make you more profit than mining.

Indeed tell us your going electricity rate per kWh. Here we can only recommend you to mine Bitcoin since anything not Bitcoin goes to the Alt coin board. (But i recommend checking out Ethereum)

If your electricity rate is 0.05$/kWh or lower, some S3's would do you very well. And if you need heating at winter, you should replace every electric heating in every room with some quiet ASIC. Even Downclocked S1's for this purpose could be efficient, even if you have a higher electricity cost.

Thanks so much for the replies.

Near as I can figure, my personal electric rate is about 0.09$/kwh.
That apparently does not include a transmission charge or distribution charge among other fees.
Right now, my rig is at a location where the electric is included in the rent, so there is no additional charge for it.
I estimate it's usage to be $25-$30 a month.

I have very little bitcoin to trade at this time and the heat idea is a very interesting alternative.

Of the ideas floated so far, getting an antminer S3 may be the best for me at this time if it will generate at least a $1.00 a day.
In general, how does one work with one.
Do they require an attached computer?
Since it operates at a remote location, how would I control and monitor it remotely?
