I have placed an order for some silver wire to get started with my Jewellery at home and start making stuff, I'll be putting it up for sale in this thread, for now they will be fairly basic rings made from sterling silver, I'll post up photo's of them for you to have a look at if you're interested. Sorry for the low resolution it's from my phone's camera, my first investment will probably be in more materials and a new camera so you can see everything better.

I'll be sure to aim for this kind of quality before I post it up for sale and I'll list the size alongside so you don't get something you didn't ask for by accident!

http://i1134.photobucket.com/albums/m602/Lethn/Jewellery/SterlingRing1_zps27a06d77.jpg

I get my materials etc. from here: http://www.cooksongold.com/home.jsp

As I'm starting off I'll price things pretty low even for Jewellery because I'm learning so don't be surprised if the quality is less than a professional who has been doing it for years, things should improve over time though as I practice, almost forgot, I'll ship anywhere, but you guys will have to pay for the postage costs.

Here's the silver I'll be working with for the first ring or two, does anyone want to make an order for a specific ring size at all? If not I'll be making them fairly small so that I can sell them fairly small, I've also provided an invoice from the place I get the silver from so you know it's genuine, my own teacher gets her materials from this company as well.

Let me know if you're interested! Otherwise I'll assume you're not and just make a couple rings randomly and put them up.

If you don't know anything about ring sizes here's a chart to help: http://imgs.inkfrog.com/pix/ulysses/ring_size_chart_1.jpg

Edit: Just did some real math and realised I'd only be able to make one with this amount, at least I know for next time now lol :P will be sure to get my hands on some more silver when I can afford it, it may also be better do an amulet or something perhaps than a ring.

Edit: Sorry for the bad quality photos again, I'll be sure to borrow a real camera and get some clearer photographs taken.

Edit: Better photos below

I've gotten some better photos now, sorry about the quality of the last ones, also added some Amethyst claw settings I did for necklaces.

Blatant plug - Frontier Space being updated, now with a chatroom!

I've gotten things sorted out finally with my new host and so far everything seems to be working fine, I'd like to see some people turn up and use it now though :P I have a makeshift chat room up which will be public but I'm still keeping the forum invite only to keep out the spammers, if you want to get in either PM me here with the email you'd like to receive the invite code with or talk to me in the chat.

Here's the link: www.frontier-space.com/chat

You do not need a password to get in, you should just need to enter in the name and it will work, I don't know why it won't let public people register but I'll figure something out eventually, everything seems to be working fine now regardless, there really are no rules now as to what you can post on my website, just keep out the virus' and child pornography but I think for most of us that goes without saying.

I just thought I'd tell you all in advance, I have a bunch of gemstones coming in which I'm going to set in claw settings and turn into necklaces, they'll be put up for sale once they're finished.

Cubic Zirconia Necklace, gemstone for this one was put in with the point first, normally it's the other way round, the jump ring, necklace chain and gemstone are manufactured

I'll be making more of these necklaces guys and this one is up for sale, what I'd like to know is what you think you'd pay for them, I will take payments in Bitcoins to start with and maybe even consider Litecoins too, please post some feedback and comments.

Oh and if anyone is in the UK I thought I might plug my Jewellery teachers website here: http://www.pinkbutterflyjewellery.net/

Bumping to inform you all that since there was no offers I've decided to just name a price myself, making another post to tidy things up a bit from now on, message me or post if you want to purchase, I'm happy to do escrow as this will be my first time selling something physical. The chain for the necklace is unhallmarked silver, the jump ring is sterling, there is also a fine silver setting and a round Amethyst, for now I regularly get all my stuff from www.cooksongold.com who are trustworthy when it comes to the metal and gemstones.

Cubic Zirconia Purple Necklace - Gemstone is set the other way round to normal: 0.7 BTC/23.6 LTC - 1 in stock

http://i1134.photobucket.com/albums/m602/Lethn/Jewellery/AmethystNecklace1_zps84517c25.jpg

Postage is free for UK customers, postage cost depends on where you want to ship it internationally.

Some interesting news folks, my teacher recommended me this site for Cabachon gemstones: http://www.kernowcraft.com/

With this I'll be able to make much better quality gemstone settings and I have decided to try the site out and have a really nice variety of gemstones coming in, I'll be sure to post some photos of the gemstones and the finished products for you to have a look at, all these necklaces will be the same 0.7 BTC price.

To check things out I have ordered:

. 1 Peridot

. 1 Emerald

. 1 Sapphire

. 1 Garnet

All of these will be 3mm Cabacon's, colours will be varied so there will be a selection of necklaces to choose from.

Got the gemstones today! Will begin making the settings for them and also posting up photo's of the gemstones themselves, I should note, these are all the same size 3mm round and natural gemstones, I'm always going to double check that kind of thing from now on just to be safe :D There are four in total, Garnet, Peridot, Emerald and Sapphire, all of these will be going up for sale, these are Cabachon's and have a flat bottom and round top, making them much easier to set because of the shape and so on.

Sorry I haven't posted updates in awhile, I'm going to be posting more often now, I keep discovering extra tools etc. that I need for more specialised tasks but I'm almost entirely set up now and I'll only need materials from now on to make my pieces, here are some WIP photos of a Rose Quartz cabochon necklace I will be putting up for sale soon. It will be 0.7 BTC like the other I have for sale but this one has a proper gemstone for the setting I've made with a flat bottom so you won't get any problems with a pointy end going out the back.

I'm also carrying on my learning and I've made a flush setting and currently I'm working on setting an oval gemstone

Post by: Lethn on June 26, 2013, 08:53:28 PM
I got my cabochon gemstones from here like the other smaller gemstones: http://www.kernowcraft.com/ they have a much better selection than Cooksons who seem to specialise more in the tools and metals side of Jewellery

I'm halfway through the round cabochon necklace I showed earlier, I'll be posting WIP pictures and the finished product soon, if anyone gets interested and wants different gemstones for their necklaces I can order them from the site above. Depending on the sizes etc. the price may need to change depending on how expensive the gemstone is but feel free to have a browse, I can only do oval and round gemstones at my current skill level.

The setting is now cleaned up and I've soldered a jump ring on it, here are some WIP photos, now I need to sand any marks off it, polish it and then finally set the gemstone and polish and clean it up again.

Just thought I'd let you know guys, I ran into a noob problem, my gemstone fell out! After taking the setting to my teacher we found out there was a blob of solder on the inside that was preventing me from setting the gemstone properly and causing it to pop out. I'm getting used to making them now though and already have two new settings on the go though I did end up accidentally chipping the old gemstone because I was getting infuriated with it. Luckily Rose Quartz are cheap and I know to always check the inside of the setting now before I try setting the gemstone, the chipped gemstone has been set aside so it doesn't accidentally make its way to anyone. I'll be setting a new Rose Quartz and a different Carnelian Gemstone, photos will be posted up, I'm already halfway through both of them.

Time to get a proper production line started :D now if only it wasn't so fucking hot >_<

This is something my teacher taught me today, we used a plain fine silver bezel strip and two sterling silver jump rings to make a setting and I found it a lot easier to make, the shape is also more rounded than the other setting I made and the gemstone sits a lot better. I plan on putting a Carnelian into this one and putting it up for sale while I work on the Rose Quartz necklace which is almost done now too.

Here's the Carnelian Setting which is now finished and up for sale I really need to just mess with the camera because now it's gone quite dark even though the photo quality is a bit better and I have no idea why.

It's up for sale the same price as the others, if you buy in alternative currencies that are worth something I'll cover the shipping costs myself:

0.5 BTC

15 LTC

1500 DGC

Since leaving it in my pocket while walking around is what managed to knock the gemstone out of it's setting last time I'll do that again with this one to make sure it's properly set so any potential buyers won't get an unpleasant surprise when it arrives.

Good news guys, after experiencing some problems with a couple of tools and materials I got what I needed now and that means I should be able to make stuff as good as the Carnelian setting, I'm also going to be learning how to set a square/rectangle gemstone this week so that will mean I can increase the variety and designs of jewellery I make.

adflkadf kakdfd, sorry for the lack of updates lately guys, had to go and find AA batteries etc. for the camera but now everythings back to normal and I can keep posting my pieces up or in this case a gemstone in pieces :( I came back after a lesson today and because I was tired and not paying attention to what I was doing I managed to drop the rectangular malachite causing it to chip, thankfully I think it isn't a big deal and I can still set it but I would never knowingly sell a damaged or chipped gemstone if I can help it to anyone, the same thing happened to two rose quartz. I'm going to have to be extra paranoid whenever I take out gemstones and handle them, this was an infuriating cock up.

chipped gemstone in question :( :

It looks mostly ( >_< ) fine from the top though thankfully so it can still be used as an example of what I can do:

On brighter news though me and my teacher have almost finished getting the gemstone setting done and ready, we just need to put on a jump ring and file everything down etc.

I'm quite happy to announce that thanks to coinpayments.net I will be accepting alternate currencies as well as Bitcoin, check out the store link on the website once I have stuff posted up,

Accepting:

( please see main website for up to date information )

If you would like to make purchases in other currencies that coinpayments supports please send me a message and I'll enable it, now I've got the store out of the way I'll be able to focus entirely on making products, there is also a forum section on the store if you'd like to register and use it. I'm still getting used to how everything works so be sure to email or message me if you spot anything wrong or have any issues.

Winter must be coming back now, I suddenly got hyper today and went on a roll soldering together three settings and hammered them round, I still have the jump rings to do though. I'm also thinking at some point of trying out some more complicated designs now I'm getting more proficient at soldering but I really need some feedback. I also discovered that when it comes to taking good photographs you should never power your camera with shitty recyclable or 'eco' batteries, just go with the normal ones because they seem to be what was affecting the photo quality so now all the photos should be a lot clearer.

I now have a fairly functional store up and running and I take payments in currencies besides Bitcoin, I'm still figuring it out so things will change but the basic stuff is all there, there is even a so far spam free forum probably thanks to the spambot module I installed but it remains to be seen how long that will last.

Coins accepted with thanks to Coinpayments:

( I've removed all out of date information, please visit my main website for more up to date information as I won't always be updating this thread )

If you want to pay me with something else, contact me, if it is a high volume coin it should already be on their website, if you want to use escrow to make a purchase I have no problem with that but it will have to be done manually, for those who don't know them here is coinpayments' homepage https://coinpayments.net/index.php?cmd=home .

Back and making progress again, I'm still working on those settings and I'm almost done with one, all that's needed now is a bit more tidying, polishing and then the stone being set, I will be putting up a Rose Quartz this time.

Just so you know guys I'm doing some updating on my website which is why the store has vanished, I'm going to make sure everything is working before I put it back up again because I think I messed up the setting up of the store the first time round, the chat room will be updated too.

I just need to finish updating my store again and now everything will be functioning better, I will also be adding the second necklace soon after I'm done setting the gemstone.

Hey guys, I'm currently making a short manga because I found my main manga is taking so long and I wanted to ask whether you thought 0.02BTC - 0.03BTC is too expensive as I still have no idea how to price digital products and this one will be going up a lot quicker than my other manga. It will be pretty short 8 - 22 pages or so depending on how well paced I think the story is but at least this way I can get a product up and you guys don't have to keep looking at boring blank pages every day.

Let me know what you think, I've put in a poll on the topic for you to vote on since I've seen a lot of people viewing this thread but not commenting.

Prices have been updated to reflect the crazy volatility Bitcoin is experiencing lately, I'll keep an eye on things more and try to keep in tune with everything, necklaces are now 0.07BTC

I am now about halfway through the short manga I have made ( currently fleshing out the characters and doing backgrounds now ) and I have decided that because I know nothing about pricing digital products I will be putting in a pay what you want system, you can download the volume, read it, completely unrestricted and store it wherever you like with no DRM. I will be placing a coinpayments button alongside it and you can choose whether or not to support the manga or not with any amount of coin. If I get enough support I will finish the series and I will be releasing a full and likely discounted pack ( similar to how steam do things ) but that will all depend on what kind of response I get while the manga is ongoing.

I have already posted the coins I accept on my home page but here they are for reference, alongside Bitcoin I am happy accepting high volume altcoins:

Bitcoin ( BTC) , Litecoin ( LTC ), Primecoin ( XPM ), Peercoin/PPCoin ( PPC ), Worldcoin ( WDC )

I will also be releasing my manga on Bittorrent in an effort to get some free advertising and spread it around for more people to read, I'm thinking of also uploading it on some of the free manga reading websites as well.

I just thought I'd make a small announcement in case you all wonder why the URLs suddenly change, as some of you may have already known I have been recently having some stupid domain drama with synwebhost as they have been doing everything they can to mess me about and prevent me from transferring my domain name away from them. I will now be abandoning them entirely and I've signed up with a new much more reliable host who will take care of everything.

The services that are in place shouldn't really be affected by this change and the new website URL will be www.frontierspace.net if all goes to plan, I will try my best to make sure any transfer hardly affects any visitors to the site.

Tip: I thought I'd post this as a warning to anyone else thinking about webhosts as well, never ever purchase from resellers and if you can't find out whether they are one or not avoid them like the plague, any problems they have will have to be fixed by another company you could sign up with instead or they won't know how to properly fix things etc. because they don't have direct access to all the hardware I know this now from my bad experience.

The website domain as now transferred successfully :D Feel free to browse through it and see if you can find anything broken but it looks like it all went through fine.

www.frontierspace.net is now my main domain, you can still use www.frontier-space.com but it will eventually run out sometime at the beginning of next year, it's so nice to have competent people in charge of my website now, no more fucking around with web hosts for me.

New setting ready! Getting back into the swing of things now I've sorted out all my website stuff, just need to put on the chain and it can be sent off like all the others if someone buys it.

This setting is a blue Paua Shell set in fine silver with a sterling silver jump ring soldered on as usual.

More to come! I'm thinking of maybe trying something a bit more complex or maybe doing some earrings next, I may post up some drawings actually and have a vote on which design you lot like the best.

Just bumping the thread to let you guys know about the new poll I've said up I'm getting through the manga in chunks now and adding colour as well as double checking everything and fixing up any problems I see and I want some proper feedback from the community on how they think digital products should be priced. I'm certainly veering towards the idea of releasing the manga as pay what you want and just letting people download it however they choose which would mean much more free advertising for me but I'm also not about to go and charge anything ridiculous like $30+ for 1 volume. I guess I'm just going to have to do with indie game developers have done and just throw it out as an experiment to see what happens.

Please vote in the poll as this data will actually help me make choices about the way I sell my products!

For those who don't know if I did pay what you want I would put the manga up on the main website for download and place a pay button and then you can enter in any amount you want to pay for the item rather than a fixed price, this will also tell me whether or not people would be willing to pay for the manga at all.

Thanks to some helpful troubleshooting from the people at coinpayments.net I now have the functionality in my store to do pay what you want ( or in this case Variable Price, vocabulary at it again in my life ) and it will be in no way different from other products beyond you needing to download it from your profile, I will be sure to add a tutorial for digital products as I have with physical products if you are new to buying things online with cryptocurrencies.

To be helpful I'm providing the same link they gave me so if any of you guys are using ubercart like I am and want people to pay a minimum price or more for products rather than a fixed price you can: https://drupal.org/project/uc_varprice

Just for fun feel free to check out the little test product I've set up guys that will give you a basic idea of what I've got planned for digital products, there's the absolute minimum price I can afford to charge for the product etc. and then you can enter in whatever amount you like if you want to support me with more money when things finally get released simply because digital products completely vary in value to each person.

It goes without saying but: DON'T COMPLETE THE TRANSACTION! YOU WON'T GET A PRODUCT IN RETURN IF YOU DO, IT'S FOR TEST AND DEMONSTRATION PURPOSES ONLY!

Not sure there's much more I can say beyond what I've chatted about on these boards, I've been learning to make Jewellery for about a year now and been learning artwork for longer, I'm based in the UK in Yorkshire. I'd be happy to ship anywhere internationally if it's all legal and if you want to use a reputable escrow I'm open to that too.

Good news! I just got some Silver sheet metal so over the weekend and now I'm feeling better after getting a stupid cold in the past couple of weeks I'll be able to get some oval gemstone settings made, expect to see a new variety of necklaces getting stocked with slightly bigger gemstones, these new necklaces will have a slightly higher price to reflect the material cost.

I'd also like to mention for those curious that I've done the muscle construction for my manga now, I refuse to give any firm dates for the release of my products ( I'm not making the mistake other companies make constantly >_< ) but I'm optimistic that I'll get close to finishing the damn thing in three weeks at most depending on how well I work.

Casting!

As I've mentioned in various places I've been learning how to do casting, first with cuttlefish bone where I ended up with a sort of blob which I tried to turn into a sort of droplet and then I tried to make a small castle from solid silver through delft clay casting. While the accuracy of the casting process itself was fantastic and I can also re-use the wax moulds whenever I want to make a silver piece in delft clay casting, my wax moulds aren't great at all so I need to get better at carving and shaping them.

I'll be sure to post more updates for you as I progress along with my casting as well as on the handmade stuff as well, learning casting properly will allow me to be a bit more competitive and enable me to make more complex shapes that otherwise would be pretty tedious or difficult by hand.

Well I think I have to admit I've pretty much missed the internal deadline for my manga but it's almost finished, I got a pretty big chunk of work done, I'll be sure to post an update up when I've gotten it finished for sure, what's interesting about this is I'm learning how how my brain actually draws up images before I draw them in real life for you to all see. I don't know whether my way of working is different from other peoples but unfortunately my thought process is extremely stubborn and I can't rush it or anything like that like some people seem to be able to.

The next time you see me post about my manga, I'll be posting up the finished product, no dates for that of course :P in the mean time I'll keep posting updates of my Jewellery which is a lot more systematic and something I can usually do almost any time.

For those who don't know and are interested, when you start off an image you have to imagine it first and what happens to me is I almost get art block where I'm unable to draw specific parts of my drawing until my brain has figured it out and I have to sit down and think on it until I have enough of the complete image in my head so I can draw again. This is something me and my teacher have been figuring out awhile now and I'm starting to get used to it so but as I've said before it does mean that I work very sporadically and can't realistically work to a deadline.

Just so you can see, this is a classic Lethn WIP, there are nice details in places, some of it looks finished and then there are some really horrid unfinished bits THAT PISS ME OFF! >_< so I don't mind if you want to have a rant about how bad it looks :D this gives you an idea of what I've been ranting about though and why I haven't posted a lot up yet. I also desperately want to get a cintiq because I'm drawing directly onto a bamboo tablet and a cintiq would make life a lot easier for me ( With the bamboo tablet it's pretty small and it's like you're drawing blind folded because you don't have a screen to directly draw on ) and is why I'm postponing work on Frontier Space in favour of some shorter mangas where I can get away with not-so-great artwork.

You guys have probably already seen it, but the payment processor I'm signed up with coinpayments.net is shutting down because of finCEN in America, to get round this I'm going to learn properly how to install the standalone ubercart module so that customers on the front end will be hardly affected by this but you will notice you can only pay in Bitcoin, I will search for alternatives in the meantime and see if I can maybe even get Litecoin installed onto my website as well but I'm not experienced so it will have to be something relatively simple to set up that can't fuck up the site easily if goes wrong.

I know I can be trollish at times and mess people about but to be serious for once I'd like to say to people who were pandering to the U.S government to make Bitcoin more 'accepted' the only purpose for U.S government regulation is to maintain the current monopoly over everything we use. finCEN and regulators like it don't give a damn about competition because they are owned by the very people who own the companies they are supposed to be regulating, because Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies like it in their inherent nature go against the idea of monopolies and centralisation anyone who comes forward to try and comply with them will be run into the ground before they can even get started.

If anyone is ever thinking of setting up their own financial services with cryptocurrencies or even a payment processor for example please, please avoid the U.S, other financial companies are actually actively avoiding doing business with America now precisely because of this kind of thing they don't welcome competition there and actively want to get rid of you or will rob you of everything you have. I can understand wanting to protect yourself from fraud and scammers, I've been scammed, but think twice before you go to people like the U.S government for it because small startups like mine and coinpayments won't be able to exist in such an environment.

You protect yourself from fraud through honesty with other people and common sense, not a faceless organisation of bureaucrats that would even try to manage our thoughts and feelings if they could get away with it.

Aha. I think I saw a thread asking about how you delete them, and it seems like you can't, oddly enough. Shouldn't be too hard for the admins to change, and I see no reason not to. Oh well.

It's a common problem with forum software that just wasn't designed with foresight, phpbb3 forums for example doesn't even have a select all box when you look at members to help you delete lots of spammers :( that's why I just installed a chat room in frontier space instead, bots don't seem intelligent enough to spam those yet, all software has these weird quirks that are often fixed by modders etc. :D

Just in case people notice a few changes I have found a payment processor again, this one also does Litecoin payments so if you want you can pay with that instead of Bitcoins, if anyone knows of any payment processors that offer up altcoins like coinpayments did I'd be happy to be pointed towards to them, especially if they're outside the U.S and support ubercart.

Small update on Jewellery! This week I learned how to make a pair of earrings, the setting is the same design but it's just got hooks attached to it rather than a chain.

Now I've gotten the general idea behind it I will be looking at designing earrings now as well as necklaces.

As there is a crazy view count on this thread ( seriously guys wtf? ) here are some light and shadow studies I'm doing to improve my images.

I don't think I'm quite at the point where I can churn out fantastic images per week like a professional artist can but at least I've found I can make Jewellery well.

You'll have noticed I've been pretty quiet lately on this thread, mainly because I'm busy working! I currently have 9 Oval gemstone settings on the go ( two of which are from earlier and I've decided I'm going to get them finished off ) I also have a rectangle setting lying around that I need to finish and will find later to show you for a Roze Quartz gemstone, most of these I plan on turning into necklaces but I have a couple I will turn into earrings as well using some Malachites and Amethysts I have.

These ones are getting there, just need a bit more soldering and polishing and they'll be ready to go

http://i1134.photobucket.com/albums/m602/Lethn/Jewellery/OvalWIPS4_zps9dddfe95.jpg (http://s1134.photobucket.com/user/Lethn/media/Jewellery/OvalWIPS4_zps9dddfe95.jpg.html)

On the drawing part of my work I think I have just about figured out after bickering with people what was going on with my artwork, artists will probably only get this and be interested but the rest of you will have definitely noticed how annoyingly flat my artwork was, well, turns out I can scientifically explain that now. The way I do artwork I practice my anatomy and memorise the shapes involved when creating characters, there is nothing wrong with the method I was using to learn as artists use it all the time, what I did wrong was I only memorised the front and side ( At this point I'm sure most Artists reading this will go DUH! :P but that shows you I'm still learning ) so whenever I tried to draw original characters using my knowledge of anatomy I would always revert to the front view by default because that was the only anatomy knowledge I had in my head, I had looked at angles but not enough. What made me realise this was that I had memorised how to draw a mannequin from several angles and could construct a character from several angles absolutely fine, but I just hadn't memorised the shapes I needed to draw for the full figure at the end stage from different angles.

Since you'd hardly draw manga directly from the front all of my work has ended up looking very flat and unrealistic even at times when I'm actually aiming for realism or I want something to look believable, I'm happy to report now though that I am now drawing at angles and everything is improving pretty dramatically, it will take a bit more work before I will show it but you'll see what I mean the moment it's posted up, I think I'll use that manga page I posted earlier as a way of comparing the two images.

Hopefully this will mean that I will be able to put out more artwork now and in greater quantities, in other Jewellery news I have done some researching and I know how to refine scrap silver etc. now, I have also found somebody who can professionally make me a Coin Dye ( Coin Stamp ) both of these processes will take some setting up, more research and also money, so it's something that I'm keeping in mind for the future, whether or not I can expand into coin minting and silver refining will depend on how well the products I have got planned sell.

Small update to show you how I'm getting on with my artwork and the manga! As I said I would before, I'm posting a comparison shot between that old crappy manga page I drew and the new one, a few obvious points, this is still a WIP, I have to finish the hands off and I'm re-thinking my colour scheme to make it more like how a manga should look because I keep using too many dark colours. The main difference you will see is in the character as I never really had too much of a problem drawing the simple shapes involved in backgrounds before but now the character looks a lot more like it's part of the background than just a weird flat character.

Shit flat character drawing that I had earlier in the thread

Improved character drawn much more 3D and with more form and a cleaned up background

Just to let you know guys I'm still carrying on with things, I am currently working to get everything finished and will be posting a BIG update in time, meanwhile though I've continued practising and improving my skills, I am currently learning how to do granulated pieces ( small grains of silver soldered onto Jewellery to make patterns etc. ) and I'm almost ready to set my first faceted Topaz gemstone, I have four of these and I will be putting them up for sale!

I'm continuing my studies with 2D Artwork so I can keep improving and holy shit did I stumble on what I could possibly describe as the most amazing tutorial on light and shadow in artwork I have ever seen, if you're struggling with the painting shadow etc. properly this tutorial may help you a lot, simply because it goes into lots of detail on the actual science of how light casts shadow and so on so you don't feel like it's some random difficult to understand process.

http://design.tutsplus.com/articles/improve-your-artwork-by-learning-to-see-light-and-shadow--cms-20282

I swear the best stuff is always in the deep web :D

Edit: Another construction technique specifically for foreshortening as well! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eJWLaDSNBAI < I've been only experimenting a little but it's already dramatically helping me, I just need to get used to it.

Both gemstones are natural, I also imported the Topaz from an online gem store in Thailand ( http://www.gemselect.com/?ModPagespeed=noscript )

I have three more of the Topaz stones on hand and I'm trying to decide what to do with them so if you guys decide you want to see more Topaz necklaces let me know, if not I've got plans to maybe try a small showcase piece with them and do something fancier.

Vote on a cheaper Jewellery Design! I am currently designing a large amount of simple Jewellery pieces compared to my gemstone settings to try and attract sales, to help things along and involve more people I've decided to post my sketches up and let people vote on the ones they like the most rather than risk wasting time and money making a design nobody wants. The winning design will of course be the one that I focus on making but if there's a lot of interest in others as well I'll be happy to make them if people actually want to pay for them.

These designs will most likely range from £10 - £20 so that's roughly 0.04BTC - 0.08BTC at current prices, even less if the Bitcoin price goes up again.

If you have any ideas or slight changes you think would be nicer for these designs feel free to post here and let me know what you think. I will be posting up more an updating the poll as I come up with more ideas, to vote, vote for the number that matches with the Jewellery design on the drawing.

Have you tried Etsy yet? The customers there would eat up your jewelry, especially if you produce more of the grungy/industrial style pieces. Plus, you'll actually have a targeted demographic, unlike here. I can help you get setup on etsy if you need, just shoot me a PM bud.

Great work thus far.

A couple of quick tips.

1. You need a minimum of 8 product listings before you will show up in etsy's internal searches, as well as their google shopping links.

2. Fill out your personal information. You don't need it to be factual, but you need to have something there with a picture. These women that frenzy on Etsy are big into that stuff. Make up a good story with a fake name if you want to remain anonymous.

3. Invest in a small light tent with photography lights. You can pick one up for around $20 on amazon. This will help stop the washing out of the colors in your photos. I would also recommend getting a grey card, and using a program such as Lightroom to post edit your photos. Alternatively, try using free sites such as picmonkey for the photos you already have taken (increase colors +white/black balance). The more your photos stand out, the more attention they will get. As it stands now, your photos don't represent the dramatic colors and superb craftsmanship of your items.

4. Add more descriptive text to your listings and tags on Etsy. People will want to know length of the chain, size of the gemstone, etc - common stuff. Adding more descriptive text will also increase your relevance rating within Etsy (leading you to show up in more targeted searches). You can repeat key phrases by slightly adjusting your wording. One of your chains can be described early on in the description as Sterling Silver, and later referred to as .925 silver. This way you start attaining relevancy for both terms people associate with sterling silver.

Anyways, hope this helps. Good luck bud.

Okay guys I've been learning how how to properly take photographs and edit them, I think I've got the editing correct but I'm going to do what I can next to reduce blurriness and get some better lighting because I think the rest of the problems in my photographs are down to the way I take my photos, let me know what you think of the newer stuff I'm posting up.

Small update! I'm still working on stuff and getting projects finished, I done those Teardrop amethysts finally and now I've got a reasonably working computer and the clusterfuck is over with for the most part so I can use it properly for my work, remember guys! Having a spare graphics card even if it's dirt cheap will save you a lot of stress and agony in the long run. I have mainly been working on my income situation now so I can buy more materials and be a bit more independent with my spending, you can expect this year to be pretty interesting in terms of the variety of stuff I'll be bringing a long because right now I've been fairly limited in what I can get my hands on.

I'm actually having a look at how to do a clip necklace/bracelet, even the simple ones are fairly complicated but I thought it would be nice to make something like that regardless where it all clips together rather than relies on jump rings and soldering to stay together, I've also been refusing to post up my artwork because the flatness in my charactes was just so fucking irritating but I've been working through that and will be posting up fresh images which will probably look completely different to the crap I posted awhile ago.

Definitely expect a lot more this year! Especially if I start getting money entirely on my own!  ;D price dumps ftw!

For the record the hooks themselves are pre-made, I took too damn long making these so I just didn't want to spend anymore time working on the hooks after all the work I put into the setting itself which is really the main part of the earrings any other teardrop earrings will have handmade hooks.

New Update:

Expect to see new updates more frequently soon, I have been working on a game in Unity recently which is why I've been so quiet lately in this thread because I've been figuring out the interface and how everything works. I almost have the mechanics completely figured out so it will be just a matter after that of simply adding in some nice artwork, sound etc.

I wanted to ask though whether or not you guys would be alright with me posting the game up as Early Access? I of course would make sure it's functional first and all content updates would be free, so that means no paid DLCs and of course there would be no DRM either.

The title of the game will be The Rabbit And The Moon, I thought that for the sake of making sure people aren't disappointed I'd hold a vote would you guys be comfortable with buying an Early Access game from me with free content updates? Purchasing would mean you of course own it for life, or would you prefer that I wait longer and make sure I get more content in first?

vote here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1064794.0

sorry, my poll is buggered in the OP.

Title: Re: The Rabbit And The Moon - Coming soon! 2D Platformer!
Post by: Lethn on June 10, 2015, 11:14:25 AM
Okay, so what I've decided to do since this is just a very basic platformer I'm building in Unity I will provide WIP screenshots and game footage for you guys to take a look at. While I'm happy with the way things are going I want to see if theres any direction I can take this in to increase the likelihood of sales and so on and I'm always happy to receive good critique from people who know what they're talking about. I think it's about time now that I'm moving onto animation and polishing the game I get some screenshots up and let people look the basic mechanics working

I want to stress, right now, I basically have a nearly working alpha of this game, the artwork isn't done, the green square you see is just a placeholder for the main character who will be a rabbit. The animations you might see a little bit of are just crappy placeholders to help me decide how I'm going to do everything.

Starting level

http://i1134.photobucket.com/albums/m602/Lethn/Screenshots/Rabbit%20and%20the%20moon%201_zpsxuxcjvf3.png (http://s1134.photobucket.com/user/Lethn/media/Screenshots/Rabbit%20and%20the%20moon%201_zpsxuxcjvf3.png.html)

As you can see I have a very basic score system up which needs to be worked on, the score doesn't transition between levels and I don't have a score screen up yet which I will be putting in. Right now I just have carrots as placeholder art, but you'll be collecting all sorts of vegetables to increase your score as you progress.

http://i1134.photobucket.com/albums/m602/Lethn/Screenshots/Rabbit%20and%20the%20moon%202_zpsacjfwlym.png (http://s1134.photobucket.com/user/Lethn/media/Screenshots/Rabbit%20and%20the%20moon%202_zpsacjfwlym.png.html)

Player death is in, you'll be having to dodge enemy stars, things will get a lot more difficult as you get through the levels

http://i1134.photobucket.com/albums/m602/Lethn/Screenshots/Rabbit%20and%20the%20moon%204_zpsbca8mc8r.png (http://s1134.photobucket.com/user/Lethn/media/Screenshots/Rabbit%20and%20the%20moon%204_zpsbca8mc8r.png.html)

No falling endlessly of the screen, I have a basic box collider set up so if you try jumping off the world you'll die and if you jump off the platforms same thing

http://i1134.photobucket.com/albums/m602/Lethn/Screenshots/Rabbit%20and%20the%20moon%205_zpst7twmipd.png (http://s1134.photobucket.com/user/Lethn/media/Screenshots/Rabbit%20and%20the%20moon%205_zpst7twmipd.png.html)

http://i1134.photobucket.com/albums/m602/Lethn/Screenshots/Rabbit%20and%20the%20moon%206_zpswjneplqi.png (http://s1134.photobucket.com/user/Lethn/media/Screenshots/Rabbit%20and%20the%20moon%206_zpswjneplqi.png.html)

http://i1134.photobucket.com/albums/m602/Lethn/Screenshots/Rabbit%20and%20the%20moon%2010_zpszhl6wouv.png (http://s1134.photobucket.com/user/Lethn/media/Screenshots/Rabbit%20and%20the%20moon%2010_zpszhl6wouv.png.html)

I have multiple checkpoints in which are all working fine, you just need to go through them and then it saves the player's location, be warned, going to previous checkpoints and going through them will set it to that location instead

http://i1134.photobucket.com/albums/m602/Lethn/Screenshots/Rabbit%20and%20the%20moon%208_zpsozahyjaq.png (http://s1134.photobucket.com/user/Lethn/media/Screenshots/Rabbit%20and%20the%20moon%208_zpsozahyjaq.png.html)

Level loading is in and actually pretty damn easy to implement thanks to Unity, so now I will be able to give you guys lots and lots of levels easily, in this game you have to reach the moon and press "E" to get to the next level or finish.

http://i1134.photobucket.com/albums/m602/Lethn/Screenshots/Rabbit%20and%20the%20moon%209_zpstzhee9q5.png (http://s1134.photobucket.com/user/Lethn/media/Screenshots/Rabbit%20and%20the%20moon%209_zpstzhee9q5.png.html)

Physics based traps! Again, another placeholder that I need to do the artwork for, this will probably be a little iceball or something so you'd better watch out for it.

http://i1134.photobucket.com/albums/m602/Lethn/Screenshots/Rabbit%20and%20the%20moon%2011_zpslvvuyzlf.png (http://s1134.photobucket.com/user/Lethn/media/Screenshots/Rabbit%20and%20the%20moon%2011_zpslvvuyzlf.png.html)

Moving platforms are in, a little annoying to animate, but thanks to Unity it's a breeze to put them in once you do all the work, this game engine has really won me over.

http://i1134.photobucket.com/albums/m602/Lethn/Screenshots/Rabbit%20and%20the%20moon%2012_zpsva72w3s7.png (http://s1134.photobucket.com/user/Lethn/media/Screenshots/Rabbit%20and%20the%20moon%2012_zpsva72w3s7.png.html)

Also note the snow particles in the background, will be seeing what I can do art wise to make things interesting for you all, maybe some animated backgrounds would be a good idea? This is why I'm looking for input.

http://i1134.photobucket.com/albums/m602/Lethn/Screenshots/Rabbit%20and%20the%20moon%2013_zpsia5qokdz.png (http://s1134.photobucket.com/user/Lethn/media/Screenshots/Rabbit%20and%20the%20moon%2013_zpsia5qokdz.png.html)

Hope you enjoyed this selection of screenshots, when I get animation in and some basic sounds I'll be posting up a video of the gameplay and adding in way more levels. I also need to clean up some of the code and make movement smoother etc. once I do all that then I'll be posting another update, with some proper gameplay footage of course.

For people who may want to pay in Pounds, Dollars or Euros or use steam, I have bought steam greenlight, so I will be submitting the game to there if I get enough support. There will be no extra charge for new game content or updates and the game will be DRM free. So you'll be able to play entirely offline, once you buy the game you will own it, so long as you don't do it for profit, you can share it amongst friends or put it on a filesharing website, whatever, it's your copy.

Now that the horrible heatwave has nearly ended I am making good progress on my game again, however, what I really need right now is to put in some good sound effects and a nice soundtrack for my game. If anybody happens to know anyone that could do that for me for this type of game I'd really appreciate it.

Edit: Good news! Thanks to me being linked a website I found somebody to do some music and sound for me, it's only fairly short though, because I'm on a budget I will likely need to update the game with a full soundtrack if I can get some sales.

Small Update: I'm getting various sounds put in now, it's down to me though to get the coding sorted and do some proper animations, I also have to learn how to synchronise my sounds and have them work when interacting with stuff, then I'll be releasing an alpha gameplay trailer for everybody to look at.

On a side note, I recently just tried out a building simulator tutorial, It's amazing what you can do with Unity when you put your mind to it, mustn't get too distracted though, gotta keep going with tha platformer and make sure it's all finished.

Fantastic news! My music arrived ( as it turns out last week :( My own fault for not properly checking ) now it's all down to me to get everything finished, I will also be looking into getting more tracks as both people for music and sound have proven to be reliable.

The project is well underway!

Good news guys! I have some beta footage to show you, things are coming along well, there's still chunks of animation work to do and I need to put more art into the game but overall it's starting to look reasonably finished, the game mechanics are just about done on the programming side so the rest is all just artwork. I have also grabbed the domain www.silverboargaming.com because frontierspace.net did not make any sense at all with what I was doing, I am also using wordpress so everything on that site looks a hell of a lot cleaner, don't bother visiting that old domain if you have been at all, it won't be updated anymore.

I'm still working away on the game guys, I know I haven't updated in awhile but that's because there really isn't that much to show yet, I'm adding in collectibles and doing level design and will be fixing up the animations to make everything look a lot more polished before I show anymore gameplay footage, here are some screenshots though to show where I'm at, this is a space level that I'm working on as you progress towards the moon the scenery will change, as well as gravity!

The brown drawings are asteroids I haven't detailed yet.

Very, very close to finishing now guys! I'm looking at maybe adding in some physics traps and such to make the game more challenging and of course I need to put my new animations in, then there's a bit of coding to fix but it's so almost there now.

Small update.

So you may have noticed I've been extremely quiet lately, I've been working my arse off on some very specific tasks, number one, which is the big one, is I've been studying how to do saving and loading code within my games which has been taking a lot longer than I thought it would as ever is the case with games development, however I'm very close to finishing all of this now and once It's done it will mean I'll be able to get content done a lot faster as I'll have all my code on hand ready to be used in any new games.

I have also hardly ever posted anything on the Jewellery side of things, that's not because I've abandoned it! There was another project I was doing which is a box clasp bracelet, I decided to do this as a showcase piece and that took a hell of a long time as well but the finished product I think is worth it, now these are just crappy photos from my phone and I'll deliver higher resolution ones later but this should give you an idea of what I've been working on with the Jewellery side of things.

I'll be sure to post an update to let you know once my game finally releases but I'm making a lot of progress now and after this the time between release dates for games in general should be a lot shorter now that I've just about gotten the insides of Unity figured out, that damn saving and loading code has been a nightmare to figure out which is why everything was taking longer than I thought it would.

For those who don't know, a box clasp is a type of clasp that clicks together when you push in the tongue and connects together various Jewellery so it can also be done for necklaces and so on, it's very precise and technical to do but I'm pretty happy with the result, I'll be sure to post more gameplay footage of The Rabbit and the moon as well which will show the saving and loading in action and I also have another game that I want to announce at some point but I think I want to make some progress with it before I really go into detail on it. I don't want to leave such large gaps between updates like I've been doing so far because of how long I've been having to learn everything.

You may also notice even in these photos that I have also been learning to use an engraving tool and I engraved some leaves onto the blanks of the bracelet and the clasp itself, I have also been learning how to melt down silver bars from scrap metal but that's something else I'll show later. I'm not sure whether I can sell these tiny ones that I made because they're only .925 bars and very small however it may be something I'll look into in the future and maybe I'll even engrave my own boar symbol into them once I can start casting my own fine silver bars professionally.

Hi all, okay, major update, I had no idea what was going on with my account as I had pretty much not bothered with Bitcointalk because of all the technical problems that were going on and I had my Rabbit and the moon project to be getting on with. I've got exciting news though, the game is very nearly finished now, I just have playtesting to do and I'll be uploading it to my website and there will be more to come. If you want to see more detailed posts about the making of my games and what I'm doing generally visit my steemit blog.

I'll post here every now and then to give updates but I'm not as active on Bitcointalk anymore, my main hangouts are on Reddit and Steemit, please ignore any posts by my original account as it likely means it has been compromised unless I manage to magically remember my information, consider 1Lethn1 to be my main account.

Silver boar gaming is also still up and where I will be uploading my game, so if anyone is interested feel free to check it all out, it will be on sale there the moment it uploads for $3.99, I will also be submitting to steam and we'll see whether it gets accepted there and I'm thinking about possibly submitting the game to GOG.com as well. Just realised for the sake of people out of the loop with all my games development I should probably get a release trailer done up lol, will post it in a bit.

My game has finally released! Purchase with Bitcoin for $3.99 or any other available cryptocurrency through coinpayments! If you do decide to support me it would be absolutely great if you could give feedback on the website and the game itself, let me know if it works or if there are any problems, I will also be uploading this game to steam if you don't want to use cryptocurrencies.
