Title: Bitcoin core passphrase error Post by: Flirt on October 20, 2015, 08:27:23 PM Hello Community,
Warning: I'm not very experienced in BTC I wanted to buy some stuff via bitcoins. So i downloaded the Bitcoin Core client yesterday and purchased some Bitcoins onto my wallet. The problem that it says that my passphrase is incorrect, which can't be true. I checked it multiple times before submitting it. I also saved it in a file. I have to sync about 1 year and 30 weeks... Is my password correct when im done with synchronising ? that really worries me. Also I didn't recieve my BTC from my purchase, but that's because it has to synchronise a lot, right ? I hope someone of you can help me out with that! Thanks in Advance! You won't see the funds you sent/received recently. In any case, you won't be able to access your funds without the correct password. I suggest you wait until Bitcoin Core is done syncing. Saving your pass phrase on the same computer your wallet is on is VERY VERY VERY RISKY... VERY RISKY.. What are you trying to do that says it's inncorrect.. alas if it says it's inncorrect.. it probably is :S.. Title: Re: Bitcoin core passphrase error Post by: Flirt on October 21, 2015, 03:01:17 PM I tryed some transfers and it said the passprahse is incorrect...
but I didn't have any btc on my wallet, I just wanted to try it out so it's not related to the sync problems, right ? Title: Re: Bitcoin core passphrase error Post by: ranochigo on October 21, 2015, 03:28:09 PM I tryed some transfers and it said the passprahse is incorrect... Yes. The passphrase never changes regardless of whether it is in sync or not.but I didn't had any btc on my wallet, I just wanted to try it out so it's not related to the sync problems, right ? IIRC, you are able to spend the Bitcoin without synchronization if you have not made a transaction after the block height that is downloaded. Bitcoin Core can construct a transaction using the UXTO information accurately without synchronizing if there is no incoming/outgoing transaction that happened after the last synchronized block. If the UXTO are spent and you create a transaction, it would be considered as invalid and would never propagate throughout the network. but my actual problem isn't fixed (incorrect passprhase)... Did anyone have the same problem ? or do you know anything about this problem ? I keep my passwords very safe and I'm 100% sure that my passprahse has to be correct. Is there a possibility of a glitch or something ? I've tried a lot like using another keyboard, using another keyboard layout or typed it in notepad to be sure it comes out the way i wanted... Unfortunately nothing worked. I am still hoping that it will work after the synchronisation is done Title: Re: Bitcoin core passphrase error Post by: spazzdla on October 23, 2015, 02:59:08 PM Thanks for your tips, but my actual problem isn't fixed (incorrect passprhase)... I am very positive you didn't write it down properly... Title: Re: Bitcoin core passphrase error Post by: Flirt on October 23, 2015, 03:18:56 PM I detected the error while I was trying out how transactions work. There weren't any BTC in my wallet, I just wanted to see how that works. While doing so, it told me that my passphrase is incorrect.
So now I went to ''change passphrase'' and tried to change it, but u have to insert or old passphrase of course. Now I am trying out everything that could be possible and it tells me ''incorrect passphrase'' over and over again. I am quite sure that I didn't write it down in a wrong way, cause I used a phrase and not a random combination of letters and numbers. Caps, spaces, etc.. any change of character you might of written wrong? 100% ensure you can decrypt your wallet before sending btc to it. Title: Re: Bitcoin core passphrase error Post by: onemorexmr on October 27, 2015, 07:21:18 PM if you dont have any bitcoins in your wallet you can safely delete wallet.dat and start bitcoin core again afterwards.
it will create a new one which you need to encrypt again with a new passphrase. i am very certain that you have written down your passphrase incorrectly. this happend to a friend of me too: in that case your bitcoins are lost. there is no password recovery. |
