Is MtGox no longer the top dog? I've been out of the loop for about 1 year.

Mt Gox is still top dog with >80% market share.

Have a look at: https://www.bitstamp.net/

I was looking at this place. Anyone have any feedback?
What are the fees if you wire in from a USD account and buy bitcoins?

i) your bank wire transfer fees;
ii) bitstamp's trading fees (0.6% i guess - check the site).

Mt Gox is the best place.
I dare to disagree. They're the biggest, yes. NOT the best.

Besides the hacks that have taken place, there are other reasons why I prefer other exchanges over MtGox.

With their 80% exchange market share, they're too big a player and getting too much influence. Not good for the decentralized nature of Bitcoin.

Furthermore, MtGox has all kinds of ridiculous identification requirements. You have to provide photographic identification, proof of residency information, and whatnot. Well pardon the French but I say f*ck that shit. I prefer not to share my details with anyone when dealing with bitcoins, and it shouldn't be necessary in the first place.

I personally like bitstamp.net a lot. Very low fees (lower than MtGox), a very easy yet functional interface, it just works very well. And no identification required whatsoever.

Between 0.2% and 0.5%, depending on your monthly trading volume: fee details (https://www.bitstamp.net/fee_schedule/)

If you are in the US, I believe that this site is also in the US.  Try https://campbx.com/ .  This site seems to be secure.

I've had great service from CampBX for more than a year now.

On the topic of even more personal service, I recommend http://localbitcoins.com for trading in-person.

I'm using https://www.virwox.com/index.php

First, because I was in Second Life long before Bitcoin ever existed (2006), and second because Virwox has also been around for a number of years with lots of customers, so I trust them more than a random newbie startup exchange.  I'm less worried about fractions of a percent in fees than the risk of the exchange getting hacked or just going completely out of business.

If your goal is trading for profit, then Mt. Gox or CampBX is the way to go. Mt. Gox is far more liquid than any other exchange and likely to pull better results for any kind of high volume trading.

I'd say go for the bitstamp.

I go out of my way to use bitfloor. Yes, the $250K loss was devastating and liquidity is low, but Roman has proven to me several times that he's a good guy and that goes a long way for me. Plus the ACH transfers are the fastest way to get cash out for me.

I also use VirWoX, CampBX, and Mt. Gox.

Are these all the exchanges that have been hacked at some point?

Mt. Gox
BTC-e
Bitfloor
