seems like these guys made it to raising 10 million nxt ($100k USD or 333 BTC) for marketing. pretty impressive feat!

was there another coin that had something similar with community funding after a coin has been released?

That was a big push near the end, I thought they were going to end up a couple of million NXT short.  If the reserve hadn't been met, all funds would have automatically gone back to the participants.  Crazy how easy it is to do that kind of thing inside the NXT client.

Many people over the past couple of years have mentioned that NXT has had it all in the tech department, but little to no marketing, thus holding its potential back. So it seems now the community is getting serious and putting some real money behind a marketing drive now. It's great to see that they were able to raise that amount of money, and it's going to be interesting to watch NXT over the next while.

Is there any real use of NXT? Can we purchase goods with it?

Yes, many assets for sale on asset exchange, so real shares in business ventures. Some scams of course, but many legitimate securities too. Open platform so buyer must do their research

Please stay away from Any crypto-currency equity or asset, bitcoin or Nxt. 99% represent scams. If you like bitcoin or Nxt, buy the coins directly and use them with real merchants.

Ya man...
$70,000 will go a looooooong way to save a property that's Death Spiraled from $70 million to $5 million = classic NXT "logic".

The problem is not tech or marketing... it's a delusional community with no vision and no adult supervision...
And about 10 people lead by The Master who have made off with all the real money invested by US and EU citizens...
Thus anyone with any capacity to apply critical analysis has long moved on from NXT and it's sister platforms like Qora, NEM, etc.

The ONLY conceivable use cases for these platforms is the Deep Web, which they fear and studiously ignore...
So, of course, NXT has no anonymity tech and no micro-transactions after 2 years... you can't make this up, baby.

But if you want wild-eyed freshman level economic debate with a strong dose of anti-Americanism...
Kind of like a homeless man's Zero Hedge... NXT price discussion is the place for you.

I've been looking for an alternative to ebay for awhile.  After they take 10% of everything, between their fees and Paypal's fees, then they can give any scammer a refund and debit your account, even into a negative balance, without even mentioning it to you first.

I've just started looking at selling on Amazon, but they would only allow me to charge $3.99 shipping no matter what I'm selling.  And I don't feel like getting into the same Ebay situation with another company and another payment processor.

I was pretty happy today when I tried FreeMarket, which does the same thing ebay does, but all on the NXT blockchain.  It's fully decentralized, which solves the problems I had with ebay, and you can pay with NXT, which solves the problems I had with Paypal.

And if you don't feel like running a NXT client and doing it all from your desktop, you can use https://freemarketlite.cc/

But I don't know if that's a "use case".  What is the difference between a "use case" and a "use"?  Isn't it just a fancy word people use to sound smart?

Looking forward to this  8)

Not much to be accomplished by trying to market to the bitter dwindling ranks of altcoiners who constantly foam at the mouth when NXT is brought up.

Need to point out that having a  $70,000 marketing/PR budget is a hell of a lot more than Nxt has ever had available to spend on marketing. It's about 3 times what the marketing budget was on launch, so I reckon it'll make a difference.  ;D
Having two useful guys actually employed by the Nxt community , even part-time (in theory) will also be a very good thing.

Here's my latest post from www.nxtforum.org :

Quote from: EvilDave
Exciting times...we are currently 36 blocks away from block 554,000, when TNSSE becomes a reality,  and we have 101.46% of the funding total.
The actual number of NXT raised right now is : 10,145,747

We'd like to say 'thank you very, very much' to everyone who has contributed to the success of the Tennessee fundraiser, and that means pretty much all of the Nxt community. Thanks, guys and girls, we're seriously, really impressed by this vote of confidence.  ;D

Now: on to business. This fundraiser is only the first step of  a year long process, so we have a lot to cover.

Firstly:
50% of the TNSSE funds are intended to provide a (part-time) salary to myself and Damelon. (though part-time is probably going to be a complete lie, tbh)
The salaries will be paid out in NXT, in advance, every 3 months. This means that the TNSSE year will run from 1 Nov 2015 through to 31 Oct 2016, and our first salary payment (of 625,000 NXT per person) will go out to our accounts this week.
(and yeah, this gives me and Damelon 208,000 NXT per month each or $1400 before taxes).
Yay...Lambo time  >:(  Stupid NXT price.

Skipping the complaining......the remaining 3,750,000 for our salaries will be deposited with a trustworthy person, probably one of the current CFC treasurers, and held by them until the payout times (which will be 1 Feb 2016, 1 May 2016 and 1 August 2016).

For the remaining 5 million + change:  that will be held by myself and Damelon equally to be used as needed.

As with the CFC, we'll be aiming to get maximum value for money from this fund, so we won't start throwing NXT around until we have a good use for it.
Our priority over the next couple of weeks will be to create the framework that we need to get Tennessee moving forward, so don't expect miracles immediately.
That will take a little longer.......  :o

You're quoting the price in dollars when 99% of it is bought and sold using BTC, which had a massive upswing over the same time period. Nice try tho.

Just to share the view with you lot:

Thanks again to everyone who donated.
(and the total was 168 NXT less than in the screeny, already had some NXT on the account)

(and stop minging on the price. NXT fell, which sucked. BTC rose, which is good. Like to see both on the up, but ya can't have everything)

You are on the right path runpaint. Freemarket needs to be advertised. Goods should be showcased. Id love to see some type of shopping channel maybe even with a host detailing products sold on freemarket. No need to reinvent the wheel, people have been selling stuff since stuff been selling

Add in a convienent way to pay with amazon gift cards....

And credit cards

Then the shopping channel (whatever) can make money through product showcaseing and accepting alt forms of payment to be converted to nxt.

Just thinking inside the box here.

Maybe freemarket , (or the shopping channel) can issue a freemarket creditcard.

No different then any big box store in america that wants you to have an instore credit card. You the prequalified identity verified shopper have $1000, $5000, $50 whatever credit offer with freemarket.

>10M NXT raised! I'm really impressed with it! NXT has had very poor marketing but in my opinion NXT is one of most undervalued cryptocurrencies. Good luck to the NXT community! :)

Thanks @Marcus1986. :)

@Thenoticer: NXT already has a crypto debit card available via Coinomat,
so you can use NXT to buy anything that you can buy with fiat, providing you're willing to do some KYC verification:

Evildave, is your definition of credit card different than mine? My understanding is a credit card offers credit. Take for example, a homedepot credit card might start at $500 limit for a high risk individual. Vs funding an account. Finding a partner to offer freemarket shopping channel CREDIT cards is what i was reffering to.

Do you have any plans to beef up marketing for freemarket?

Thanks @Marcus1986. :)

A credit card service is a big step.......debit is the closest we have right now, but I agree, it could be useful.

FreeMarket marketing is FreeMarkets problem, they are an external project, and I mostly deal with Nxt core stuff.
Tennessee will also be concentrating on marketing for Nxt core.
Having said that, I'll be up for helping FreeMarket out, if the need arises.
