ive recovered the text but its all jumbled up with weird signs with error message saying errors detected in file

to add i recovered the file by recovering my hard drive.

if resolved will tip for the help

Is the file corrupted? Is it a .doc or .docx file? Have you tried this feature in Word (https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/290946)?

There are bunch of ways you can recover it or get the original text .Can you allow us to download the file so we can correct it and send it back to you?

That feature in word will be no more supported as 2007 was the last official version for that stuff.Probably it will work if he's still using office 2007 but don't think it will recover a text file because the header definitions for a text and word file are totally different ,infact text files have no header at all.

It still seems to be a feature for .doc files in Word 2013, and there is a separate method for .docx and .docm files [1]. I doubt that they will have removed the feature for doc files in suites past 2013, and he can use the separate method for if it is a .docx or .docm file.

True, though he said a Word file in the title. By this I assumed a .doc, .docx or .docm file.

Please give me the file, upload the file to a website and provide link so that I can give it a shot. Please pm the link because I might be busy in some other stuffs.

Well we all need some info before getting our hands to work. Like what cause the corruption of the file? (like a power cut, extracted fron an archive or something). Then we will need what version of Words are you working with and what kind of font?

i tried this and some jumbled up letters come up with signs when i recover file text. the file is .docx


i have other files that need recovering too so would prefer if i was told how to do it.


i lost data on my hard drive so used a recovery software to recover it but word will open the file as it says its corrupt

error message reads the office open xml file cannot be opened because there are problems with its contents.

then in details it says the file is corrupt and cannot be opened

just to add im using ms office 2007

i tried open and repair and it says the same error message again as above but in details it shows

'>' expected

location: part word/document.xml, line: 2, column: 10451

Have you tried the method in the second link I posted, where you rename the file from .docx to .zip and open the word/document.xml file in a browser?
