Title: stupid time restrictions for reporting
Post by: Your Point Is Invalid on October 27, 2015, 03:11:31 AM
I need to report posts, the 6 min time limit on reporting should be removed, i can only report 10 posts in an hour
i know the limits are necessary for posting but for reporting i dont think the wait is necessary
also when you try to report a post and it doesnt go through, it says its saved as draft, it actually isnt saved as draft so theymos may want to change that, also while im on the topic, i'm just gonna report this (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=596509.msg6922542#msg6922542) and the post below it, they are two bumps in a row which is against the rules, also we need official rules

please no sig spammers in the thread posting links, i look new but im not

If youre not new then why are you not reporting posts with your main account? I dont see the importance of you needing to report with a newbie acct. Erase this if you must but i feel its a legitimate question.

Since you mentioned your not new then why don't you use your main account instead for reporting, therefore you could decrease the time interval between each of your reports since it's all related to the rank your in and also to the case you mentioned that's right since he haven't deleted his last bump from 2 days prior to the other bump but I also notice that it's from 2014 and why report just now plus his not on any sig campaigns so maybe that's also a reason why no one either deleted or no one noticed at all

I don't think it is against any rules to report posts from an alt account if you are banned, and I really don't see any harm is someone who is banned doing this.

In theory, someone with malicious intentions could spam the report queue with useless/duplicate reports, so I don't think this limit should be eliminated entirely however I think that 6 minutes between reporting posts is excessive. I would say a more reasonable limit between being able to report posts would be somewhere in the range of 30 seconds to one minute. I also don't think that reporting a post should count as an "action" for having purposes of when you can send another PM or make another post (eg I don't think a newbie should have to wait 6 minutes to post after reporting a post -- this is only going to discourage new users from reporting posts)

If you are not so new then you should be aware of the fact that this limit will reduce significantly(to some seconds) when you upgrade your membership level, so instead of bitching about the rules(that were made to stop newbies from spamming fake reports), why dont you just post, wait and increase your activity so that this time gets reduced.

I also think this time limit is a little unreasonable. My suggestion is that theymos makes it so that anyone who is entered in a signature campaign has a larger time restriction, to avoid sig spammers.

Let me clarify this, you are trying to report a post (bump) that was made way back May 2014?
That's what I see based on the link you provided.

Does it really matter that how old the post is that he is trying to report? A post made against the rule is against the rule no matter how old it was! All the false post should be reported whenever you see them. They do help in cleaning the forum and make it more readable for the people who stmble upon the post through google search or by any other way

There is not really a problem as higher ranks can report quicker.  I don't know if hero has a limit I reported 2 spams with less then 30 seconds between I'm guessing, was someone double posted the spam.

I'm guessing this is to prevent someone to register a new account and just report a ton of stuff that are not spam.  Making mod's life horrible with new accounts reporting all kinds of things.

With the limit it will get less as you gain activity.  And you mention your not new use your old account and there should not be issues.

The post is more than a year old and I assume that he is not the only one who noticed that post and furthermore the post have a time difference of more than 24 hours and as per theymos post, daily bump is limited to 24 hours

Old bumps should be deleted as they serve no purpose, and only clutter up topics and make it more annoying to read.

The time restrictions are really not up to time anymore, why not simply use captcha to avoid newbie spam?

5 minutes waiting time is just too much

Because captchas can be quickly and easily solved by people. The point of a captcha is to stop ROBOTS not PEOPLE.

Newbies have to solve captchas to send pms, i dont see why this cant be integrated into the whole site

Newbies have to enter captchas to send messages now?

Op, I whitelisted you but not sure if that lowers the reporting time or not but give it a go.

create an alt account to report a post to moderator could be sound strange?
why you need to report more than 10 post in one hour and not use your first account?

it's too simple create a new account and spam in the forum or with the report post function.

My vote is NO!

maybe try to contact directly a moderator with a mp, add all post there and let's go it can be more easy...
or open a topic in scam accusations if you see something went wrong.

what is an MP, if its a private message, there is still a 6 min restriction for posting

yes it's true, and it's also foundmental to avoid scammer newbie send private message (very fastidious).
You can send a MP where (yes a private message) where you ADD all info in ONE message and stop it , you don't need other time, likewise a "normal" user!
