Hi...

I am facing a lot of problems with one of my wallets in blockchain.info.

I would like to know how to move it to an other provide bringging all my bitcoins and still receiving my faucet referral earnings normally.

Is it simple?

To what new wallet provider should I move? What are the best ones?

You will need to export your private keys and import it to another client that supports importing of private keys.
You can try Electrum, bitcoincore or Multibit.

It is not recommended to use any online wallet. Especially blockchain.info. Even bitcoin.org too removed blockchain.info from their web wallet page.
Choose yourself a wallet -> https://bitcoin.org/en/choose-your-wallet  and import private keys of blockchain.info wallet to the selected wallet :)

Of course cold wallets are the safest way to keep bitcoins.

The problem is that I don't want to download 20GB of transactions to my notebook...

I do prefer a online wallet for now.

try multibit HD, bither,electrum. You don't need to download whole blockchain.

I will try electrum then.

What to you think about BitGo? Is it a good option?

yeah! That too a good option, if you use bitgo extension (bitgo doesn't have  software other than browser extension). I've tried bitgo web wallet only.

Every online web wallet service has an option to export the private key somewhere in many format (don't really remember what is correct) so find out what's the right one. However using online wallet is never a safe choice. I suggest using bitcoin core, electrum or multibit which is less vulnerable than online service

i was wondering, can i have multiple accounts on one block chain? u know like some strategies on this bitcoin series.

Everybody is suggesting electrum... Altough it is a great choice (i'm using electrum and multibit HD myself), i don't think they have the option to import private keys... At least not from the GUI, maybe there's a python script that allows you to do this, but i'm not really aware of one.

I think their keys are always generated from the seed, so no "outside" keys can be imported...

There would be 2 options:
- use bitcoin core (and download the full blockchaing). It allows you to import your private keys. It might not be 100% safe, since you exported your keys from a website!
- download electrum, just run it, generate a seed, generate new keys and addresses, and transfer the bitcoins you have in blockchain to the new address. This is the safest option imo, unless your address from blockchain is known as a tipjar, or a public address that receives frequent coins... In that case you're more or less stuck with the first option.

it does have the option to import and even export. I used to export my key from the blockchain and add it to electrum. and you can do vice versa too!

I believe you, but i'm looking at the official windows portable electrum 2.5.1.
If i go to wallet => private keys, i have the option to sweep or to export them... If i sweep them, i'll just send the coins to an electrum address, right? The keys aren't imported, just used to transfer all the coins? It's just the automatic version of making a wallet, and sending the coins over?

I might be mistaking, i've never had many coins on webwallets, and i transferred them to electrum and multibit hd a while ago...

I am using the install version of electrum and at the same section you described I got the import option. So I think somehow the portable one is unable to do this...

Well, the portable version does allow you to export your keys, just not importing new ones... It allows you to sweep private keys tough :)
I've written down the seed on a piece of paper, that's safe enough for the amount of coins i'm holding ;)

You are correct. Electrum do not allow importing private keys into HD wallets. If any one want to import private keys into Electrum, he would have to create another new wallet file. So, running 1 Electrum installation loading 2 different wallet files.

If you want to use again web wallets then i would suggest coinbase,
But they do not offer to import neither export the private keys.
Only transfer the balance to the coinbase address and you are good(not better/best)

i suggest electrum,but dont keep ALL of your coins on the wallet i tend to only keep around 5% of my coins on my wallet, the rest in a paper wallet

Export your private keys and then import into another wallet.

Multibit is very easy to use for import and export private keys.

When you start Electrum for the first time, you are offered a choice to "create a new wallet" (HD wallet) and "Restore a wallet or import keys" (import keys from other wallets). You can import private keys into an Electrum wallet, what you cannot do is import private keys into an Electrum HD wallet.

you can input your private key into a electrum wallet but you have to use the installed version not the portable one

you CAN import a private key into an electrum wallet, although i think you can ony do it onceyou start electrum for the first time,i just opened up my electrum wallet and cant seem to find where to import, but i know for a fact that you can.

If your doing it to get away from blockchain simply importing will work on many wallets. If you want to have more security you would send to a cold storage wallet.

This you would have to pay Transaction fees, but if going for security this would do it.  You will have switched from hot to cold wallet.  So kinda depends on how far you want to go.

Use electrum or multibit.
Then Export your private keys.

About the cold wallet, I do not need this level of security.

I do not use to store bitcoins. My wallets just work as a transition storage because I send all my coins to my faucet balance.

My profits come from Adsense ads.

Am I the only one seeing it as a advantage just to send it to new wallet?  I think having it under a btc address that did not have private key online as a good thing.  Yes transactions fee's do not sound fun.

But I think if wanting to move from it might as well get a more secure one to.  Even though blockchain is a great wallet for spending cash , just not long term storage of lots of coins.

Try to sort a wallet file yourself, run a client on your computer. With offline 40 character passwords, no-one can get your bitcoin, sadlywith any third party, you just don't have that security.... People and companies can vanish or go bankrupt...

I usually download multibit and install it. After that I import private key from selected address (from blockchain ) and put it into multibit
Wait until syncronization is done and you're ready to use it without feeling worried against blockchain anymore

Just make sure you download and install Windows installer version. If you download standalone version, you won't have an import key option.

This option will be available in installer version. After you setup and secure your wallet, everything else is a breeze.

You are doing a right thing with ditching the blockchain.info wallet.

You can just withdraw your funds at any given time to your own wallet.

OP question is not like that. What if blockchain.info down??

He can't withdraw or send btc normally. He has to backup private keys then import into another wallet to be able transfer his btc.

The wallet will still work, but you can just forget about it since all of the private keys are now in electrum.

That wallet should still be working, but as you have now the electrum wallet don't bother to use blockchain anymore.

Anyway you can remember/save the details of the blockchain wallet just in case in the future but i believe that is not needed.

I don't think there is any way to delete the blockchain.info wallet. You can enable all of the other security settings to make it really difficult for anyone to login though. That should help, but wallet deletion is not possible.

In fact you have made a copy. So the old Blockchain wallet is still working.

You can archive it and delete the wallet address. I can't find proof that they delete it on the server side but it should help from client side attacks.

Coinbase has never failed me and I believe they are the amongst the best if not the best online wallet service out there. I would recommend them except that I don't think you'll be able to import your private keys. If you gonna go with a local wallet then have look at Multibit.

This method should work, i've tried it several times when creating novelty addresses (importing keys, archiving, deleting)... But like you said, you never have a 100% guarantee that blockchain didn't keep a copy, nobody was snooping on your internet traffic and your pc was 100% clean when exporting the keys...

But it's the closest you can get to deleting a key from blockchain...

Coinbase is indeed one of the best one ;D However it's not the safest way to store money online. Never trust any online wallet 100%.

Well...

As this wallet is a temporarily storage and do not contains many bitcoins, I will keep it this way (accessible by Blockchain and ellectrum).

Anyways It helped me because I was having issues with blockchain. In Ellectrum my wallet works very well.
