Title: Ideas needed for relaunching homelessjackie.com
Post by: edd on November 04, 2012, 10:27:47 PM
As many of you know, I was taken in by user wong RAP (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=59932), AKA Jackie, who was posing as a homeless girl actively using bitcoins to facilitate her lifestyle choices. I registered the domain homelessjackie.com and set up hosting for the site because I honestly believed a well-written blog by a young person without a permanent home or employment and technologically savvy enough to understand, mine, and carry out transactions with BTC would be worth reading.

Sadly, it soon came to light that this particular person was not who he/she claimed to be and I consequently shut down the site to avoid perpetuating the deception.

I don't want to abandon homelessjackie.com completely, however, but since I'm not close to anyone in the homeless community nor involved with any "help the homeless" campaign, I'm stumped about possible uses for this domain and I'm turning to the bitcointalk community for suggestions. Remember, I'm looking for ideas that should be related in some way to the URL but I'm open to creative and imaginative concepts.

Of the choices you presented, A photoblog/journal by a wandering BTC enthusiast named Jackie should suffice with a little thinking outside the box.

Jackie would be the pseudonym for some fictitious character roaming the countryside/globe seeking answers/solutions to real world events. Present it in episodes, but not introducing Bitcoin till further down the road. That'll be when Jackie really starts his/her (probably a he) crusade.

Although not rich, Jackie is homeless by choice.

There, I started the idea. May I further suggest amassing more suggestions on this theme prior to publishing at the site. Make this a community project of sorts, gleaning the best suggestions and rolling them into one episode, then more on the next episode.

You can make the use of subdomains to tell a backstory, e.g.: anidea.homelessjackie.com; thestart.homelessjackie.com; europe.homelessjackie.com; backhome.homelessjackie.com. (these are rather lame, but wanted to list a few to you and others the idea of where I'm coming from)

That's an interesting idea, Bruno. So this would be a story in serial form, inspired and directed by suggestions from the forum.

As long as the protagonist doesn't end up on a spaceship named the BAS Satoshi, I think this is definitely workable.  ;)

Spot on in regard to the first paragraph.

Can we vote at least vote on second paragraph? I have this great user account readied for the asking.  ;D

Seriously, let's see how much feedback you get pertaining to the first assessment.

You could produce a sitcom where there is a home where everyone is looking for a Jackie that should be there but isn't. Home less Jackie.

I think I like Phinn's idea better. It'd put the site to better use.

Further thinking on the subdomain aspect.

diary.homelessjackie.com could the place where Jackie records his most inner thoughts, along with actual asides, whereas homelessjackie.com is a fictional account, a timeline create by its readers, coupled with never before published photos submitted from around the globe to further enhance the reading experience.

And to think you, edd, wanted to make use of this domain so that previous spent monies don't go to waste. Well, I got news for you, good buddy. I now suggest you purchase homelessjackie.net and set it up as an ecommerce site selling Homeless Jackie swag.

I'm not done yet! You further need to purchase homelessjackie.org, which could be a place to maintain the ongoing listing of all real Homeless-Jackie-type sites.

http://www.thisiskent.co.uk/streets-west-Kent-Diary-homeless-girl/story-12000105-detail/story.html

I found the above by using "diary of a homeless" as a search term on Google. There would be no problem to populate the .org site with content. Also, upon reading them, should provide fodder for the .com site, gleaning real experiences from and incorporating them into a fictional account.

You wanted thinking outside the box, well, I think outside of gaylord crates.

BTW, when I'm done using these crates, they can be used as homeless shelters.

+1 Porn site, featuring homeless women selling their bodies to get by, armed with nothing more than prepaid nokia phones and mobile wallets

diary.homelessjackie.com

I still can't get over what Dr. Yanni told me earlier today. He said that for someone who makes a living seller their body, my viginal was rather small. I call it my secret weapon. My clients don't have a clue that when I scream, it's not because of ecstasy. In hurts. Yet here I am, meeting BadBear for a second time this week. When does it end? When does it end?

Maybe combine Cracked (http://www.cracked.com/) and the BAS Satoshi, allowing certain people to write entries with one global editor who approves posts, essentially creating a distributed storybook, and possibly publishing it as an actual book eventually, but for a start, see the first sentence.
