Post by: c0ikws on November 07, 2012, 03:03:45 AM
I just bought a Gigabyte 5850 HD to minecoin and in BFG I get following error All devices disabled, cannot mine!
In guiminer I do not have the choice to pick that videocard

I installed the latest drivers from gigabyte site and also installed AMD-APP-SDK-v2.7-Windows-64

anyone knows what else I have to do ?

checked option to include in %PATH% in SDK installer? I had similar problems long time ago because I unchecked this "unnecessary" :D feature when installing SDK

You do not want Gigabyte-branded drivers. Since you have an older card, you will want to stay with a legacy video card driver with SDK 2.5 included.

First uninstall all ATI/Gigabyte software, reboot.

Then you must manually remove these files that are not removed by the uninstaller:
C:\Windows\System32\amdocl64.dll
C:\Windows\System32\amdoclcl64.dll
C:\Windows\System32\OpenCL.dll
C:\Windows\SysWOW64\amdocl.dll
C:\Windows\SysWOW64\amdoclcl.dll
C:\Windows\SysWOW64\OpenCL.dll

Then get and install this driver package, which includes AMD APP 2.5:
http://www2.ati.com/drivers/11-11_vista64_win7_64_dd_ccc_ocl.exe

Additionally, you will want to grab overclocking software such as Sapphire TRIXX or MSI afterburner to underclock your GPU RAM to ~300MHz for the most efficient mining.

So basically i uninstall all Gygabite drivers, manually remove DLL and download and install the file you mentionned ?

Will that mean I'll get less performance playing videogames with those older drivers ? Should my card not still be detected with the newest driver and at worse affect bitcoin mining performance ?

I wouldn't recommend this if it wasn't the right thing to doⒸ. If you underclock RAM for mining, you should set the RAM back for gaming. Newer versions of the AMD's OpenCL have changes that are to the detriment of Bitcoin mining performance.

The driver will work if installed correctly, however I would recommend CGMiner or Phoenix software for mining - once it is configured you will have higher performance.
