I just bought a Rosewill Capstone 450-m and can't figure out which modular cable goes where. All four ports are identical, so any given cable will fit in either one. I'm assuming ll four give out different voltages and amperages to supply the right kind of power for each component.

I've wasted hours Googling to no avail. Does anyone own one and can tell me the specific order? Thanks!

It doesn't matter which ports you plug the cables into. That's a single rail unit, so they'll all have the same voltages/amps. As long as they physically fit, you're good.

oh, ok, that sounds great! This is my first modular unit.

Rosewills are garbage PSUs. I've read this for a while now, but decided to take a chance. So I bought my first Rosewill PSU, I loaded it to 1/3 of the capacity, and it made a little click, never turned on again.

The thing about Rosewill is that they do not make their own. It's newegg's generic brand. So if you truly want to find out of it's good or not, you'll have to open it up to find out who the OEM is, and dig info on that OEM's track record.

It was on a massive discount for $60. It is for a home office PC with a single 5850 for light mining, if I wanted to power a dedi miner I would've gone for a Corsair.

I ran 4 x 5830's O'Cd on a Rosewill psu for 8 months straight without a single issue. Now I am running 2 x 6950's O'Cd on that very same psu, once again, no issues.

Rosewill OEM's their power supplies. If you looked at reviews, you will find the capstones are amazing power supplies. Capstones are superflower oems and superflower is an amazing foreign power supply manufacturer

imo I think you just got really unlucky. I have 3 rosewill power supplies (capstone 450w modular, capstone 450w regular, lightning 1300w). The two 450w's run two radeon 5870 each at full load 24/7 and the 1300 runs 5 5970 (10 gpu) at full load 24/7, none of the break a sweat.

as for your original question, yes you just plug in whatever modular cable in whatever modular port. doesnt make a difference.

Have you tried turning that PSU back on after letting it sit for a while?



I have had some lower end PSU's click off and turn back on after a while....


Thermaltake 750watt TR2 RX comes to mind "Worst PSU EVER"

Someone said above that all PSUs are "hit or miss". This is largely untrue, and this post really brings this to mind. The ThermalTake 750 TR2 RX, is in fact, one of the worst PSUs ever, has a huge failure rate, can barely deliver what it promises, etc. So... the take away is, ThermalTake sucks right? No, the TR2 line does suck rocks, but the ToughPower series is actually quite good (low failure rates, running within spec or better, etc.). And this is consistent amongst both lines.

The takeaway is you need to figure out which lines are quality, where you can save a dollar, and where that savings is a loss when your "budget" PSU crumbles like coffee cake.

Rosewill is another company like this, many extraordinarily terrible PSUs, and a number of rebranded high-quality PSUs that are excellent performers. Just google some reviews for which are which before you buy.

Yeah I spent a lot of time on the phone with Thermaltake about there TR2 line....


The Toughpower and the new Smart Series are very good PSU's.......

I'd certainly avoid OCZ power supplies. multiple rails (blergh) that seemed not to live up to their rated current. I also had another on a different machine one go pop and smell BAD. I've never had such problems with a power supply brand.

Corsair and Seasonic these days.

Rosewill's Fortress series has some of the best ratings in the industry.
I have one still sitting in a box waiting for bASICs to arrive, if ever :(

I bought two Rosewill Xtreme 750W supplies about a year and a half ago when I built my mining rigs as it was on sale at newegg for $100.

I would've never thought about buying a Rosewill PSU but as others have said you really just need to look at the individual series. (due to OEM changes) The Xtreme series was reviewed by JonnyGuru and recieved a quite good score so I gave it a shot.

It's a very good quality supply and they have been been powering a dual hd5870 rig and a triple hd5850 rig for over a year of constant mining service.
