Title: Bitcoin model used for political & other elections
Post by: smoothie on November 07, 2012, 05:04:08 PM
The bitcoin decentralized model would be a great way for elections to take place.

With many eyes watching (i.e. nodes) and verifying votes as they come in there would be a much smaller chance of fraud occurring in elections.

I thought the following:

"I find it interesting that in all of our technological ingenuity we have not established an online voting system through the internet where you can vote from home through your internet connection. The reason I think this is the case is if there was any cheating/tampering with votes or the algorithm of the system it would be clear as day it was happening."

its incredibly easy to vote over the internet. the real problem is that you are unable to ensure that people that vote are not under duress.

What's the point of voting again?

If the purpose of political systems was expressly opposed to the goal of implementing the will of the people it claims jurisdiction over then one would expect it to behave exactly as it is behaving now.

Just an idea.

Perhaps it would expose the corruptness of the current system? lol

That is what I have always thought as well.

But with the amount of absentee ballots being used, they are under the same position.

It's hard to preserve anonymity and ensure at the same time that every participant only votes once.

This is the main issue, the people running the voting network would know who you vote for.
