Title: Coinbase Gamble
Post by: paulb787 on October 29, 2015, 10:00:17 PM
I deposited and withdrew funds from gambling sites a few times on my new coinbase account. I had no idea that this was against the rules and am shocked. I have heard of them shutting down people for this?

Am I ok? I just did it a few times?

Coinbase is just an online virtual wallet.

It is not ill-will to deposit money into your own wallet.

That being said, I recommend that you host your own wallet instead of using coinbase because hackers could hack them.

I really never heard of this but nothing would surprise me from the Coinbase, not even this!

Are you OK or not, don't even ask. You have a right to do with your money as you wish, especially with your bitcoins. That's what Bitcoin is designed for.

So what you need to do now is download Multibit or Electrum, set it up and transfer all of your funds from Coinbase to your new wallet. And just stop worrying about this nonsense.

Coinbase is a nice online wallet/exchange of bitcoin. However, you will not be able to totally controlling your coins since Coinbase is handling your private keys.

Please read their terms & conditions before using Coinbase.

The no gambling / casino thing from coinbase isnt that shocking.  I think they are just doing there best to make sure they operate within the law.   Its Unlikely that they are monitoring ever transaction from every address but to be safe you should probably get a local wallet.   I recommend Multibit HD since it uses a online blockchain and you dont have wait forever to dowload it like the QT wallet.   They probably aren't checking and  added that in the TOS to comply with US laws.

this is the 2nd thread about coinbase claiming that coinbase is not accepting payments from a gambling site.
is this one of those professional trolls to spread negative feedback about coinbase?
i get may payments from magicaldice through coinbase.

EDIT: looks like there really is a rule about accepting payments from gambling sites, it was posted on another thread about coinbase.

I am shocked to read this, I had no idea they were doing this.  How can they enforce this by identifying the bitcon address as a gambling site?  I will need to check their TOS but I am quite surprised by this.

Could be that they blocked it because he has a lot of big movements? I don't understand how they know if a coin comes from a gambling or from another user.
