Title: Bitcoin Wiki Security Certificate expired?
Post by: sinner on November 08, 2012, 09:37:57 PM
I get this warning from google every time i go to bitcoin wiki:

Quote
The server's security certificate is not yet valid!

You attempted to reach bitcoin.it, but the server presented a certificate that is not yet valid. No information is available to indicate whether that certificate can be trusted. Google Chrome cannot reliably guarantee that you are communicating with bitcoin.it and not an attacker. Your computer's clock is currently set to Thursday, November 8, 2012 1:40:42 PM. Does that look right? If not, you should correct any error the refresh this page.
You should not proceed, especially if you have never seen this warning before for this site.

It's been this way for a while now.  Can I assume its safe?

No. There's definitely something fishy going on with your connection. The certificate for bitcoin.it is valid from 2010-12-15 17:29:24 GMT to 2012-12-16 21:21:39 GMT. It is currently perfectly valid. Since your clock is correctly set, you should not be getting this error. It is possible an attacker is trying to trick you with a fake certificate (though if that's the case, you'd expect them not to put a timestamp from the future on it ::)) The real certificate has the following fingerprints:
SHA1: 1bdbaa0ac1c3cc464d8edad56870c401dc035ee7
MD5: fa03fccec71a3d95f7bc3a858a0e5a6c

What are the fingerprints of the certificate you're getting?

I'm getting "expired issuer" on the first issuer when I check with SSLLabs

Does anyone know what date the StartCom Class 2 Primary Intermediate Server CA certificate allegedly expired on? Because I'm looking at it right now in OpenSSL and it says it's valid from 2007-2017. There's no way it's expired. ???

An older version of the issuer certificate expires on October 22, 2012.

Users having the issue can try to update their Startcom certificates to the most recent ones from here:
