They have equal rights and the social stigma isn't as big as elsewhere, but even there the percentage of LGBT population is less than 4%. America probably isn't even the biggest traffic source of this forum though, to find someone that is openly homosexual in an internet forum of this size I'd be surprised. It's also the nature of this forum that doesn't necessarily make it the ideal place to advertise your sexuality.

I become a best friend and I didn't know he is a gay. I mean, I've been heard rumors about him, but I never believe in that. We was been a friends a couple of years till one day we decide to watch movies, but unlike before, he told me to come alone. :) I know it's awkward situation, but I still wasn't believe that hi is gay. I simply don't believe in "being in the closet" I understand that's not always an option for other people out there. For me it was just never an issue.
