Title: [ANNOUCEMENT] Terracoin.info - PaperWallets for Terracoin
Post by: crazy_rabbit on November 09, 2012, 12:16:23 PM
I just managed to get Terracoin.info up, it is based (copied) from bitaddress.org which produces paper wallets and other wallet services off-line in Javascript.

You can use Terracoin.info to make your own paperwallet's to start protecting your coins from theft, hard-drive formats, loss, corruption.

That said- it won't protect you against forks, 51% or people losing interest and quitting the coin entirely.

But have fun! I learned a few things doing it, and it's been useful for me so far.

cheers!

Quote from your website terracoin.info :

Donations (to Terracoin.info version Creator): 1GsbewSoCNmMWQbE9WFFc95j4yhQdhbv6C : BTC OR TRC

Does it really works ?? (i mean the "BTC OR TRC" part) ?

you somehow imported your address on both wallets ?

If i send one currency to this address, only one of your wallets "sees" it ?

Yes. I use the same private key for both BTC and TRC. So you can donate either to the same address, and I will get it on the respective chain. :-) Neat right?

so .. i guess it appears as an orphaned transaction on the "wrong" chain ?

could be useful, not sure about how harmful it can be for the "other" chain though..

No it doesn't appear as an orphan. Basically what happens is this: Lets say you want to donate 10 BTC to me (yes please!) but without noticing it, your using your Terracoin client and you send me 10TRC instead (to the same address).

Nothin happens on the Bitcoin network- the network is entirely unaware of what you intended to do. You send TRC from the TRC client to a TRC address. I have the private key of both the TRC AND BTC address. So there are no orphaned transactions, your transaction always happens only within it's own chain, and to everyone watching, just looks like a normal transaction.

Remember, the coins you send will always go to the chain that you are sending them from. BTC and TRC will never intersect. They are totally different networks. The only thing is that the private key for a BTC or a TRC address will always be the same, you can have one "address" that receive BTC or TRC. But compared to USD they won't have the same value.

IE: I prefer getting 10BTC not 10TRC. :-)

LOL- NO! :-)

I you send 1trc to a BTC address you will get 1TRC at the TRC address that is the same as the BTC address. They will NEVER go from one chain to another.

I have the private key of both the TRC AND BTC address.

Another most likely stupid question. Sorry, I'm still kinda new around here!

How did you go about getting the same address for both? Is there some way that you can choose what your address will be?? Or am I not understanding you correctly?

Because Terra is a clone of Bitcoin, the address system is the same. So essentially whenever you have a public BTC or TRC address, the corresponding PRIVATE KEY is valid on both chains, and gives the same public key on both chains.

Go to Terracoin.info to generate a Terracoin Public and private key. Then go to Bitaddress.org and pop the private key from Terracoin.info into the private key section and you will see it gives you the same public key. Tada!
