Title: Connecting Three AntMiner S7's to one Controller Post by: Ondart on November 02, 2015, 06:09:20 AM I saw some images of the S5+ and the S7 where three units, side by side, are connected to a single controller on the middle miner. Is there any benefit to doing this vs just running each on its' own controller individually? I am curious, is anyone doing this? -Ondart Title: Re: Connecting Three AntMiner S7's to one Controller Post by: RichBC on November 02, 2015, 07:17:08 AM There are several benefits.
Reduction in the power consumption = better overall efficiency. Reduction in the management overhead. Makes available spare controller boards, either to sell or as spares if you get a failure. Quite separately I think the Jury is still out on if the S7 Controller board supports 3 Miners / 9 Hash Boards. There are other threads with discussion on this. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1173573.0 Rich Title: Re: Connecting Three AntMiner S7's to one Controller Post by: Tupsu on November 02, 2015, 07:28:43 AM You can connect only two S7 with one controller.
S5+ is coming already at the factory 3 cubes with ohne controller. S5+ software is broken, fan control is not working. Title: Re: Connecting Three AntMiner S7's to one Controller Post by: alh on November 02, 2015, 08:10:32 AM I think that the original Batch #1 S7 firmware did support 9 boards, but the latest firmware limited it to 6 boards.. That may be faulty recollection on my part. Obviously there were, or still are, plans to support 9 boards, or there wouldn't be 9 hashing board connectors.

Connectors are all working, but from Bitmain site downloaded S7 software not support it. It works with same S7 controller and S5+ software with 3x S5+ cubes. So all 9 data ports are fine. here are my two one batch 1 with untouched firmware running both the batch 1 and batch 2. It got hot in NJ it will be 70f today so my two are downclocked to manage heat At 50f I can run my two at freq 581 and get around 9300 at 45f I can run my two at freq 587 and get around 9400 at 70f I run at freq 562 and get 9080 some math 562/600 = 93.666667% x 4860 = 4552 x 2 = 9104 and I am doing 9080 due to 0.0052% errors so no complaints https://i.imgur.com/9pfjjyb.png Title: Re: Connecting Three AntMiner S7's to one Controller Post by: Ondart on November 06, 2015, 05:35:36 AM Thanks for all the advice. I'm going for one controller for two S7's; a spare controller is a good incentive. Which data ports are your hash boards plugged into? can you take a pic? I am having issues plugging 6 boards into one S7 Controller where some ports don't seem to recognize the S7 boards correctly and don't hash. I am seeing this on batch 1 and batch 3. Does anyone else who has tried plugging multiple S7 systems into on controller seen this issue? :( http://s29.postimg.org/tos1dj9t3/s7x2sadface.jpg I can only confirm 2 s-7's as I never had three on hand to test. here are my two one batch 1 with untouched firmware running both the batch 1 and batch 2. However, you still need to power the fans for each miner (which draw from the controller board and contribute to its power consumption), and each fan draws ~24W. BBB boards only consume 2-3W max, so the amount of power savings is really negligible.

If I have purchased total of 32 antminer S7, then it only makes 16 controllers. Now I have a double S7 only 7 pieces , because I put together only the best miners with very low HV error rate. Five of them are at my house After three hours in antpool 9,711.79 9,673.46 9,729.75 9,699.34 9,717.76 |
