How is it possible to enact an instant ban? I thought they needed to pass laws and stuff. Either way the world will keep on turning.

They are definitely not the same country. Taiwan is also called the Republic of China, and the losers of the Chinese revolution retreated there after they lost. China is also called the People's republic of China, which is rather confusing, and probably why we refer to Taiwan as Taiwan.

No, because diamonds and € are not used exclusively by criminals/retarded people who keep asking the same idiotic question over and over again.

China and Taiwan are NOT the same country. Look at a map.

When I went to China I was warned to remove the map from my Western printed guide book as it had a map of China without Taiwan coloured in.  Apparently such maps are illegal in China and will be confiscated if found.

Is Taiwan a part of China?  Depends on your point of view.  I would think most people would say "no, until Taiwan voluntarily decides to join the mainland".  Different political system, currency, written language (not simplified), allied to the USA, easier travel (I don't need a visa to visit Taiwan, but do so for China), the list goes on.

What's ironic is politically you'd think Taiwan would be more open to Bitcoin than China.

Yea but if you ban it in other countries you can focus fire buy in china and the US to buy up all the bitcoin.

It's legal in Taiwan, guys. Don't worry. That chairman is just a crotchety old man. He gets angry from time to time and says things that are not true. He can't just unilaterally declare something to be illegal at a hearing, trust me. Bitcoin is perfectly legal in Taiwan.

They are the same country (China), but different regime, for example: East and West Germany around 30 years ago, is one of them not Germany? or North and South Korea today, is one of them not Korea?

News in Taiwanee (in alternative universe): "Burglars wearing Luk Buttøn suits robbed a high street bank following a daring high speed escape in nazeratti. Financial supervisory commission authorities swiftly responded by banning both offending brands. As a result, anyone wearing Luk Buttøn suit will face 6 mo behind bars and a stiff $10000 fine, starting tomorrow. All nazeratti vehicles to be decommissioned and destroyed promptly."

Luk Buttøn and nazeratti are prominent alternative universe brands as well  :P.

lol, anyway they can simply wait for bitcoin to be mainstream, and move funds abroad without the police do shit about it

simple as that, when bitcoin will be spend directly for everything there is no government that can stop it

Who gives a crap about Taiwan? All they are doing is shooting themselves in the foot and doing so that they will miss on the biggest possible revolution in financial world.

If I had to choose of EU recognizing us and giving us some legality and Taiwan banning us, let it then be exactly like this. Taiwan banning us. Their problem not ours!

Yes, the mindset is basically anything that's new and inordinary, banned first, ask questions later. Watching porn is still banned in China, you can be arrested just for watching porn in your home. (This has happened several times). One guy got 20 years in prison in China, for operating a porn website (servers were in the US, not even in China)

It is a stupid thing, argued with stupid reason (or better without any reason) and it is an emotional decision. Maybe they think that with this act will stop bitcoin there and will stop the future events like this which caused this ban. Are only illusions. Who want to make bad find thousand ways to realize that. Bitcoin was one way and which paid was it. Have any meaning. I think that in the future they will rethink this decision. Being an province of China and seeing the situation of bitcoin there, cannot be otherwise.

They have to pass laws to make anything illegal, and that takes considerable time. They can't declare anything illegal in 5 seconds. Maybe they now say it's not 'legal tender' like in Russia, but they can't immediately declare it illegal. The whole story has been exaggerated by the news outlets, and in a few days I'm sure we will start to see more rational reporting instead of headline grabbing misrepresentations.

So bitcoin is not illegal at Taiwan. Was the same person which declared the opposite of that has declared some days ago. So there is a very high sign of seriousness of this kind of governor. How can trust people persons like him? Cannot have words to do other interpretations. Can be other words to comment such kind of news? The same person tell opposite words within days about such important things. With the same easiness like speaking with him's wife about the new television to buy...

It is not controlled by any country or banking authority.

This is exactly why countries are banning bitcoin.

A world with no government (anarchy) is a bad thing. I'm not saying bitcoin is bad or fiat is good.
I can understand countries\governments having to figure out how to coexist with bitcoin.
Questions like how to raise tax so you can pay for roads or hospitals.

Banning bitcoin might be a way for them to buy time to figure out how they want to restructure.

lol no government entity can influence on bitcoin, just like they can't do sh*t about any p2p service. They can ban whatever they want, noone gives a damn.
Don't believe everything news say, it's only a matter of time when everyone will realize that bitcoin is actually the safest thing to have and use.

.... it's only a matter of time when everyone will realize that bitcoin is actually the safest thing to have and use.

Lol :D

That's like saying don't trust banks it's safer to have all your cash at home under your mattress.

Ever realize what will happen in a 100% bitcoin world when someone threatens you and steals your private key.
No police and no government to help you cause they've ceased to exist because you can't force people to pay tax...
Yep you end up dying in a gutter....

Bitcoin is as good as cash money or as gold. Want to have it, you must protect it. It should be valued and used as such.

Bitcoin will not replace the world economy in it's native form. It could function as a reserve currency for the banking system or as a cash replacement.

That's true. I'm hoping that they will change their minds in the future. Criminals misusing bitcoin is one of the reasons why they're banning bitcoin as well.

I'm hoping they will find a way around that so that we can all make us of the bitcoin without getting into too much trouble.

And you're right, A world with no government (anarchy) is a bad thing. There needs to be a balance beteween the two.

It's good to see they are run by compentent men and woman.

Especially for china, banning bitcoin will be bad in their time where the economy needs boosting. A lot of investors are dissatisfied with the current growth.

So what is true now, is bitcoin banned or not in Taiwan? Ah who even cares, they can do what ever they wish ( I mean their government). There will be similar things in future, but i think nobody can stop bitcoin. In the end its important what some other much bigger state's say about bitcoin, everyone else will follow. Like it is for everything else.

I don't think anyone here really knows. Unless someone from Taiwan speaks up and clears this up.

It sucks that great things like bitcoins are made illegal or are being banned. Criminals are corrupting the bitcoin.
