Title: Bitstamp verification?
Post by: hawikamo on November 03, 2015, 06:51:27 PM
Hello, to verify my account on bitstamp they want me to send them both sides of my ID card and my bill for address. Now...is it safe to send my ID cards to them? This feels kinda wierd sending my ID photos over the internet..

Many sites do it, and well its no different from what non-BTC sites ask you for, for payment related stuff. Although I wouldn't want my ID photos sticking on any site, that the reason I didn't register on coinbase even when they used to give $75 per registration with ID proof.

I know, I feel very unsecure about this. But I really want to be buying some Bitcoins..

Nearly a thousand members(over all of the sites) have done it probably feeling the same thing, well can't force ya to upload your ID photos, but wouldn't recommend you to do so as well.
BTW why exactly are you buying bitcoins, for trading or just trying it out?

Unless you want to pay through the nose with localbitcoins, dealing with most exchanges require verification. There is one or two that no not require verification but use "at your own risk".

Bitstamp is a decent choice.

I don't blame you. You are getting in while the price is still low.

then use btc-e
for fiat transfers they also require ID photo.

so:
no it is not safe to sent an ID photo (because exchanges can be hacked and so on), but unfortunately all exchanges (except bitcoin.de) do this unproffessional way of identification, because it is the easiest one. So there is no other choice..

Ok cool, so bitcoin.de does not require id verification or whatever? How can I buy bitcoins there?
