Title: How do Faucets work?
Post by: BitcoinBlackjack on November 09, 2015, 03:45:01 AM
Hi everyone,

We have been requested a few times to include a Faucet on our website, but I'm embarrassed to say that I am not sure what it is or how it works.
I tried doing a search on the forum but all I got was people talking about getting BTC for free.

Can someone please explain to me how it works?

Thank you in advance!

i assume you run a gambling site when i saw your signature, it probably means that "faucet" is giving out free bitcoins to test the games on your site atleast every 5 mins or so

Ok so I'm guessing that the faucet randomly picks a user to give free BTC to every X minutes, and then that user gets an email notifying them of the free deposit?

See the link in my profile for a good set of examples.

Faucets are just an easy way for someone to get a small amount of bitcoin and for others to make money off us bitocoin user and for the site owner to make money off of the page views from the people seeking money from the faucet.

It's a cool way for someone to get their first bitcoin. It's not a great way to make a lot of bitcoin. And it's a great way for a site owner to make some money.

No, not at all. I suppose you are refering to your gambling site, in which you use a faucet that gives out say, 200 satoshi every half hour so people have some free money to bet. You can fund this faucet using ads, or you can fund it through your gambling profits.

You can easily modify a faucetbox.com script to your liking. Simple PHP.

A gambling site doesnt use faucetbox on their faucet lol. Its a built in feature just to test betting not for free money on your wallet

faucets are something like giveaway to start playing the user (without deposite by user) in a gambling site.

AFAIK, faucets in a gambling website is free and not only for the testing purpose. You can withdrew it when you won a big with that faucet money (i'd withdraw few times on rollin.io).

Implementing faucet on gambling sites is a way to let users to play on your casino without depositing anything. This could allow them to test all your functions or keep them on your site and claim faucet, withdrawing after winning. In many sites, reward tiers are implemented, the more you wager, the higher the faucet will be. This is a way to give users an incentive to play on your site and the more they wager, the more they are likely to lose. It works both way.

Just remember to implement good captcha system and allow the faucet claim only when balance is 0 and set a timer.

Wouldn't it be nice, if you are paid for just visiting someone's home? Or for just going to a near place every hour?
This is the principle on which bitcoin faucets work. Faucet websites are just wanting to promote bitcoins and attract people for using it. You are paid just for visiting sites every hour or on daily basis. You don't have to invest something. You just have to visit there sites, or click somewhere and that's absolutely it.

In simple terms, a faucet can be used to attract more views and increase activity on your site by giving a starting 'bet' to visitors (if we are talking in terms of betting/gambling sites). This will let the user get some satoshis to start playing on your site but the satoshis will stay on your site till a limited period (as you set it). That way you have the chance of 'giving away' satoshis/BTCs to new users who are going to 'spend' it on your own site as well. A good way to make profit.

Lol nice example but it will take a lot of times to visit to earn that 1 BTC

You should reconsider if it's worth it to visit 100 homes a day for just $0.03

and just to clarify, the owners of these sites are getting paid by running their ads and captcha

Thanks for all the info guys!

1 last question CryptoUser25: you can get paid for running captcha on your site?
