Title: sell and buy-help
Post by: abidjan on November 11, 2015, 05:51:18 PM
I have 1/8 of a bitcoin I want to sell.  What companies are best (reliable) to sell to?  And as far as that goes, is BitPesa a reliable company to deal with, as far as sending money overseas?  Who has used them?  comments please!

There is a lot of exchanges out there , most known and used are Bitfinex , Bitstamp
Now it depends on the payment methods that you are willing to sell bitcoin for , if you are looking for something like Paypal you may want to use something like LocalBitcoins or you can exchange on bitcointalk forums as there is a currency exchange section .

Yup you are perfect but you could go with local traders they will help you more with exchanging money. as your thought guys can go with Bitfinex or Bitstamp, They are trust worthy one. I think your view helpful to newbies and who is starting their trading initially with their saved BTC

you just deposit in neteller.com and they take only 1% and then send it to your bank account or you can have your credit card for 13$ with no month or year fee i think is beter than deposit in a exchange site and then withdaw it to your bank account ;)

for that amount i would use an exchange that do not require an id and hassle like that, kraken or coinimal are your best choice

Yes, that's a really small amount and you don't want to send your documents to an exchange for $40. If you have PayPal, use Coinimal. If you don't, you can figure out which payment methods you can accept and you can post an ad in currency exchange thread and find a reputable user that will surely hell you with selling this small amount.

Still, Paypal and Coinimal is the easiest option.

Paypal's reversible nature doesn't suit Bitcoin, which is an anonymous currency. You could sell BTC to someone and then lose the money when they cancel their Paypal - or their PP is associated with some dodgy/fraudulent activity.

Find a good small exchange and stick to it!

I am not familiar with the company you named, but i found this site:

http://bitcoin-net.com/bitcoin-country-list.php

Find your country and look for the party with the most reviews etc.

Other services you could try is
BTC to Paypal or BTC to Creditcard

If your name says where you are, it won't be easy. I guess there isn't a single exchange in Ivory Coast. Bitpesa is probably your only choice, but I don't know their terms. You may also try Kraken but I don't know if they could wire money to an African bank account, nor how much they would charge for this service. Better think local, and look people interested in BTC around you.

Selling and buying bitcoins. Normally termed as trading can help you get some profit too. You can buy bitcoins at a price. Wait for the price to increase and sell it to someone in need at your fiat currency. Make sure you follow these steps while trading:
(1) if you are buying bitcoins, make sure the person or community is trusted. Chances of scam are there.
(2) If you are selling, be sure that selling rate is always a bit less than buying rate. Be careful about that.
(3) Using tax free wallet can be more convenient.

Neteller won't let you withdraw the money you deposit through bitcoins, they make this perfectly clear in their FAQs, the money deposited through Bitcoins can only be used to send to other neteller merchants and/or services which accept neteller payments.

The best thing you can do OP imho is look for local traders on LBC, some might even offer cash trades, this is how I found a trader I buy coins from, especially since like me you're only looking to trade small amounts, I also buy $50-$100 from time to time and it's much more convenient and safe to trade face to face.

But even if you don't find a cash trader you'd find many traders with other payment options. Be careful with Paypal and other similar e-wallet services as most of them can be charged back.

If recommend localbitcoins. Find a trusted seller and see if you can meet up with them IRL. That's probably the safest way to do it, and you could get aquatinted with the guy and get him to give you a discount :D

I wouldn't recommend Localbitcoins to a newbie trader.
While it is probably nothing to worry about if you are dealing with trusted Localbitcoin's users but  whole situation of barter somewhere in the middle with unknown people can be stressful and unpredictable.
Stick to to the standard bitcoin exchanges there are many reputable ones to chose from.

I would use kraken. I've had good experience with them and as amph mentioned you don't have to go through the id hassle for low amounts of cash.

Although, I would rather advice you to hold on to the coins..

Exactly this! 1/8 or 0.125 of Bitcoin is only $42 now. This is not an amount you can't live without. I know in some countries that's a month's living expenses, but still I'd suggest you to find the money somewhere else and hold your coins.

I don't know in which country you live because depending of the country is even the value which have for you that 1/8 bitcoin. Then I don't even the reason for which you want to change those. If the amount have from the change it is an important amount in your country and you need the money will have from this action there are to many possibilities to do this change which are shown above or even BitPesa which is the main processor used in Africa (from one the countries of this continent you must be).

But if you have no need for that amount of money and want to sell only to have some money to spend with your friends I would advice you to not change those. Most of your money will go in fee and you will have (in every case and every processor you may use) at the end almost nothing in your pockets. Try to increase your bitcoins and not to sell those. It may be the possibility in the days to come to have much more money, in your local currency, from those.
