Having as high profile a customer as Wordpress on board will give them a lot of credibility and make it a lot easier for them to sign up new sites.

Great use case for bitcoin ... excellent match up and has lots of follow through possibilities also, e.g. how many WordPress users might think "good enough for WordPress, good enough for me" when planning a payment option for their users.

Actually, are there any plans for a WordPress bitcoin payment plugin a la paypal plugin? (I imagine Bitpay is already onto it).

Giving the WordPress user base easy access to bitcoin payment options would be the big coup here.

What I love about their announcement is, rather than stating they are going to take BTC as payment.

They start out by highlighting the shortcomings(restrictions,regulations, etc...) of paypal & credit cards.
THEN, they introduce BTC as a means for ANYONE, ANYWHERE to send them payment for upgrades.

So, basically they introduce to their customers the very reason(and the heart of BTC) why BTC is a superior form of payment on the internet.

I love that they did that. This marks a huge day for BTC. Did anyone see this coming?(rumors or anything?) Cuz, I had no idea.

Back in 1994 when Amazon was just getting started the bricks-and -mortar merchants were asked how they would respond to Amazon.  

They were asked "What's your Internet strategy?"

And their collective response was along the lines of ... "Our what?"

It's 2012.

The question now is ... "What's your Bitcoin strategy?"

+1 excellent point on not pushing those BTC right back into the banking system...that's the real inflection point and when you'll know that the train has left the station...I do applaud WordPress for a stellar business move (Congrats to Tony G. too).

On thing I just now realized by reading Worpress comments, is that this also enables a whole new way for bloggers to fund their blogging.

Accepting Bitcoin donations directly in their blog and use them to fund their blog.

Indeed.  Won't be long until they go:  "Hang on.  Does that mean I could receive some of these bitcoins directly from my readers?"

And then for them it will be a "let there be light" moment.

I just dropped WordPress on my useless site http://we.lovebitco.in - as a webmaster I would say it's the worst of content management systems (I need to edit template files to disable comments??) and only have one client with it still, who basically uses a theme's front page and nothing else, but if you want a blog that works and looks like every other WordPress site it's pretty slick.

The world is getting better :)
