Title: Do you still use fiat to buy things on Amazon.com?
Post by: Elwar on November 21, 2015, 10:55:02 PM
I'm curious if people who actually know about Purse.io still actually pay full price for things on Amazon when you could be getting your purchase at a 20% discount.

I'd like to know your reasons why. For my friends and family I understand because they're scared of this "bitcoin" thing, but for those who use Bitcoin, why would you not?

If you don't buy things on Amazon...not really asking you anything here.

I actually don't use purse.io even though I know about it. I am a little concerned about purse since it is pretty much a carder's paradise. So much credit card fraud happens there and I don't want to be involved in that.

I use a bitcoin debit card for my purchases.

Well you cant actually pay full price, max is 99% last time I checked. Last time I bought something via purse.io I paid 99% and added a little extra for shipping. Mainly because those grinding their ass for some amazon points and selling them on purse.io to make a living should not be forced into a discount. Im perfectly fine to pay the full price, I just want to pay in bitcoin. Even with purse.io its a pain because I have to use .uk.co instead of .de which means everything with a plug uses a different outlet.

I use a bitcoin debit card for my purchases.

They escrow now and IIRC even insure against CC fraud up to 1000 USD.

I use Amazon and still pay the usual way, I have heard of Purse but not used it as I'm not too sure on the legitimacy of it migjht be worth taking a further look into it next time I need to buy something on Amazon.

Well, I actually have gift card balance, and use to sell it on purse.io, so I tend to buy things with gift card balance directly. Using purse.io has great discounts, but it is slower too as you need for someone to get your "order"

Doesn't appear to work in the UK. There's also very few options for instant buying at market prices in the UK so any discount would be eaten up with premium even if it did work as I'd want to buy and replace.

I think it's one of those things I'd regularly forget to do if it was possible.

I've tried to use purse to make some larger purchases around the £500 mark and the orders never get filled. Ironically, had a normal person just bought it straight up, they would have been in handsome profit right now as I made the order when BTC was under 250 a piece.

Could be due to using the American site but I bought a $1700 laptop there with (I think) a 15% discount. I did start at 50% to see if anyone would take it, and I wasn't in any rush, but I had to bring the discount down.

As for speed...usually if it's under 20% discount it'll get filled within a few hours (again, for US purchases). I always default to 20%.

I just use coupon codes that I get the shipping paid for fully and sometimes a coupon code to get products free after doing a review for my group. ;)

I still use fiat to buy things on Amazon.com. It is still quite convenient for me to use fiat. I use bitcoin to buy electrical goods on other sites.

I use fiat only. Bitcoin is for hoarding and speculation, fiat for economic activities.

I use gyft.com.

Although with http://www.minerscenter.com/ offer of giving you an extra 10% for your BTC, I imagine that would be the smart way to use your BTC at the moment.

I use fiat only. Bitcoin is for hoarding and speculation, fiat for economic activities.

That is the most ignorant thing I've ever read on these forums.

sadly yes, but because i find purse.io too slow, they should speed up the procees, with amazon i just do one click and everything will be proceeded

there you need to wait for the right buyers etc...still hoping that one day amazon will accept bitcoin, maybe when it will be too big to be denied

Tried to use it once, purse.io to order stuff in France. Things got very complicated and I have regretted using it. Since then I am buying with my credit cards!

Yeah, I do know about purse.io and I do use it. It is much cheaper and faster shipping compared to some of the amazon sellers. I have bought some headsets and mice from there and they arrived fast and in great condition. I would definitely recommend the site to anyone that uses Bitcoin and wants to save money(i'm pretty sure that's everyone).

I've never heard of Purse.io. So I don't really know what it is. I'm guessing it's a payment tool.

I have purchased some books in the past from Amazon. I paid with PayPal at the time.

I didn't know about purse.io up until now, I checked out their site. I might try it out.

Yeah, even I use fiat to buy things on Amazon.com but I also check the price of bitcoins on that particular day, if the price of bitcoin is low then I make payment with bitcoins, and the the price of bitcoin is high, I use fiat currency to make a payment, its better to shop looking at the price of bitcoin on that particular day  ;D

There should be a 50, 50 option. Sometimes you can find very nice offers when paying with Bitcoin, and some others with Fiat. I use both.

I heard some horror stories about Purse.io in the beginning and then I switched to gyft.com. I will give them some time to sort out all the problems and also transaction processing speed, before I try them. I am not one of those people who adopt new services early on, because I cannot afford to experiment.

There are so many scam sites these days, you have to adopt a <watch and wait> strategy as a protection method.

I have heard about purse.io for a long time now and i don't have a good feeling with them.
Firstly i wanted to sell a amazon gift card and i couldn't because i should buy several times and then to sell the gift card.
Also recently there are many bad feedback about purse.io that people are having issues after getting the package because of fraud activity by the seller.

We no longer use fiat at Amazon.  Strictly Purse.io now.

https://pbs.twimg.com/media/CUwnoH9UsAAg1r3.jpg

We used bitcoin to pay for around $2000 of chemistry equipment for a chemistry class.
The class is for 20 homeschool students.  Buying through Purse saved us several hundred dollars.

why would you pay with an e-currency like BTC when you already have debit cards? :)

BTC is good if you want to specualate or if you want to buy weed online :)

Yes and it is also good for gambling, where you can gamble with the small amount of btc just for fun, regarding amazon I haven't purchased anything yet by using bitcoins, it is better to use fiat while you shop from amazon, and bitcoins need to be kept safe for future, can sell in future if the prices goes up and earn profits out of it.

I have never used fiat (credit card) to buy thing at Amazon.com - not even online. I exchange my Bitcoin for Giftcards at this forums, gyft and egifter for Amazon Giftcards. I use those giftcards to buy thing at Amazon.com. So far so good. I heard of Purse.io but the concept is just too hard to get.

ehm you know that you can spend those fiat in bitcoin, instead of spending them in "fiat" right? this regardless of the future value of bitcoin

but the advantage is that by spending those fiat in bitcoin, now(if you need something to buy obvious) you will get a discount, instead with fiat you will get nothing...

You just need to buy BTC before buying the product. Send BTC with 20% discount and you are done. Didnt spend any BTC that you have on wallet and still got the disccount.

I guess people dont like having to pay any fees to get bitcoin, i dont know what the best current options are.  Even if you dont pay a fee you pay with time. If people have fiat and they see a product the quickest way is just to buy it with fiat.

Discount is just like magic. They say the actual and the discounted. But what you pay is the market price in which the profit of particular product is included. Don't go behind discounts.

Yes I still do use my Debit card to purchase from Amazon. It's cause the Local Amazon isn't supported by Purse.io inorder for me to purchase using Bitcoins. I'd love to see purse globalize its services or probably a service like Brawker (they've shutdown) would be extremely useful.

Yeah, I will not go for fiat in this case, on one hand is on discount and on the other hand with fiat is full payment. Fiat and bitcoins are easily exchangeable then not it beneficial to buy the products with bitcoins and bitcoins with the fiats you have. It is not hard to exchange your fiat to bitcoin.

Amazon is amazing. They offer something which is called online business.
What I get from there, i get cheaper, fast, the offer more, and the service is about 90% of the time very reliable and good.
I dont want to mis them.
Also their cloud & it services, like twitch, are phenomenal.
Only would they accept BTC, but it would make Amazon to one of the most rich BTC owners.

Purse.io is excellent. That being said, it is far from perfect. Purse.io is a P2P platform which allows users to directly exchange their gift card/credit card. Due to this, carding fraud is highly possible. Even with Purse instant, it is still not available in my country and have an attractive enough discount.

Going through this thread I have to point out that if Amazon started accepting Bitcoin, the price would not shoot up.

Look at the amount of people who have bitcoins, could save 20% by spending bitcoins on Amazon and yet do not spend their bitcoins on Amazon.

What in the world would make you think that Amazon accepting bitcoins at the same price would make the price go up?

Even if Amazon started accepting bitcoins, they would immediately exchange them to fiat (which would drive the price down).

At least with purse.io people are not automatically converting them to fiat.

because amazon have one thing better than purse.io and i believe it's the main reaosn why only few are using purse.io

it's the return policy and the faster delivery, with purse.io i know you can return but it is not straightforward like with amazon, i'm sure some trouble may arise
