Title: The next 12 months for Bitcoin - as of November 24th
Post by: bhodson on November 24, 2015, 05:29:36 AM
I'd like to track what's new and planned. Can anyone give me some suggestions on some of the big things that we may see in the next 12 months. This could be changes to the core, significant new applications or new wallets:

Here's what I have so far:

- New Block size decision - mid December 2015
- New Block size in use - Jan 2016
- Bitcoin ETF - Jan-Jun 2016 (wild guess)
- Colored Coins
- Federated Sidechain using 2 WAY Peg
- Liquid sidechain for exchanges beta - Dec 2015
- OpenBazaar - Dec-Jan 2015
- The lightning network alpha - Feb 2016
- Liquid sidechain for exchanges in use - Feb 2016
- New Sidechain implementations in alpha - Mar 2016
- Halving - July/August 2016
- Rootstock
- http://stashcrypto.com
- Segregated Witness
- BIP 47, Reusable Payment Codes, and Payment Addresses - Dec 2016
- The lightning network beta - Dec 2016 (wild guess)
- BIP 65, OP_CHECKLOCKTIMEVERIFY

Applications:
   Prediction Market
   - Hivemind - a decentralized, blockchain-based prediction market that is intended to function as a sidechain to Bitcoin.

Those dates are my best guesses and I'm very open to hearing suggestions for changes.

What's missing from this list?

Augur (Depends on Rootstock) is part of the ethereum. It should affect Ethereum more than bitcoin. Similar ideas can be implemented in bitcoin.

You need bitcoin to buy ETH. So it does affect BTC.

The missing is openbazaar is not Dec-Jan 2015 but in 2016 :D
anyway, this is positive event for bitcoin to become better, although the price is can't be predict accurately. but I believe it will be rise.

Nice list, providing that the stuff does not get postponed into oblivion.

Maybe it is an idea to sort it on chronological order so it is easier to look at the list.

I think your guess likely would really happen, but are you sure that the halving would happen on July 2016?

Interesting list, perhaps some major releases will occur in the next 12 months.
Too many seed ventures to keep track of casually but from the venture capital projects there are some interesting products projected for the following year.

This should come in handy: bitcoinclock.com

The ecents planned seem to be exciting at first glance, but in over years/months of anticipating, much of these seemed to be forgotten or gone to oblivion. :/ I just hope the block size debate would come to rest at mid-December.

I'm not really sure 'the month of November' is a big thing to look out for haha. Nothing happened last year from what I can remember though I do recall the excitement of November 13. Personally the biggest thing will be the halving but I think we will need some more good news before then to make bitcoin more in demand.

Will BIP65 info be awailable on blockchain? If not then you can scam people. (Delayed payments may bankrupt people).

i dont think we will see the launch of the Bitcoin ETF in jan2016. more like mid/end 2016.

I don't think we will see it before gemini is fully licensed in all American states, and that could take another half a year. Ideally gemini needs to be allowed to accept customers from any country before the ETF launches. Restricting their user base to only Americans will leave a gap in the market that some other business could fill.

what is missed is the next ath of bitcoin, should appear around the next year, near the halving but no one really know it can happen much early

I could see that getting complicated... ideally they would allow customers from all over the world to their ETF. But I'm not sure how easy that would be.

How can one not get excited when we see this list! Great job OP for outlining this! I dare to say that if we don't get any huge drama in the community during the next year that with all these happenings, next year ATH is almost guaranteed!

I will try to keep a list like this updated and welcome any new suggestions / comments.  Hope this can help going forward even if the dates are very hard to pin down.

Lightning network will get coded now.
I listened the last bitcoin knowledge podcast where Joseph Poon said, they believe that around march 2016
it will be ready for testing.

Yes the list is great. But how likely is it that all of that we will see in 2016.
I'm not sure about that.
A graphical timeline with associated link/sources, even as wild guesses, would be great. This way someone could have an eye on the projects he likes.
For that we maybe could make a bit more of that thread.
OP did really a great beginning here.

Have they started coding the lightning network, and is there a github for it? I have read a lot about how great it will be but I have not read any references to the code written for it. If it's going to be ready for testing in march 2016 they must have started coding, but they might have kept the github secret.
