Title: Please help with setup.
Post by: unrealistic on November 24, 2015, 04:54:17 PM
Hello.
I would like to setup small usb miner setup for solo mining lottery :)

I found that there is that new usb stick with 8-16 GH/s, possible of 20 Gh/s

I already have USB 3.0 Hub with power adapter.

Question is what type and model of rasbbery pi i would need, if only funciton (atleast for now ) would be controlling these usb miners. Best for the buck. Another question, will it work with usb3.0 hub ?
It would be cool to use some display to see actual mining ifo too. How much miners can i use on 10 port usb3.0 hub ?
What software do i need ? Would be great to use some already preconfigured plug and play soft. Thanks for any help.

To answer your question: raspPI will work, as will any other device that runs linux or windows and has at least an usb2.0 port.

I run my stickminers on an old neolinux HP thin client, even without a powered usb hub...

Don't know how many miners one hub can power...

I'll upload a couple pics from my setup when i get home from work this evening (and if i remember)

EDIT: about the display... Sure, but personally, i just run cgminer within a screen session... I open the system over a terminal, open the screen session and see if it's still mining from my laptop.

EDIT EDIT: about the software: either run minera (it contains the necessary software), cgminer or bfgminer... It can be run from linux, unix and windows (with windows you need some extra drivers). Tutorials can be found with google. If you use geccoscience's stick, please make sure you download the adapted minera version, or download the patched cgminer files before building cgminer ;)

As promised, some pics (took with my mobile phone, so they're rather dark): Click on the image to see the larger image :)

The back of the thin client, with an antminer U2 and a geccoscience miner plugged in:

My old gridseed, currently not plugged in since i used the PSU for something else (i'll need to find a new PS before i can start using it again):

The front of the Thin client... An antminer U2 and an usbstick with lubuntu (the system boots from this USB since the flash disk was only a couple Gb, and i needed more space for the OS)
