Title: Your Opinion for the cbitcoin Logo.
Post by: MatthewLM on November 18, 2012, 09:06:02 PM
Hello. I have had some initial concepts for the cbitcoin logo (A bitcoin library in C (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=123488.0)). These are not final. I would like your opinion on what types of design you prefer; what do you like and what do you not like?

The final logo may incorporate something to do with the sea as a reflection on the fact the library is a C library. Does anyone like this idea?

Any comments are very much appreciated and will be useful in creating the final logo.

Thank you.

Number four or the simplified version from subSTRATA.

All other are just "too much".

Thank you for that idea, subSTRATA. One issue is that it may not be obvious that it is cbitcoin with the highlighted c, so it's probably best to keep the c before the "bitcoin", unless others disagree?

Also do people like the padlock idea? Is it focusing too much on the security aspect? Is a simpler logo, as subSTRATA points to, preferable?

Number four or the simplified version from subSTRATA.

All other are just "too much".

Thanks. If many people agree, we can look at simplifying the logo.

I agree with subSTRATA.  The simpler the better.  And only 2 colors.

not crazy about the semi-colon

It doesn't have to be a semi-colon. That could be replaced with parenthesis for instance: cbitcoin() as a way to represent the C programming language. If people do not like the idea of using elements of C syntax, then please say.

the orange and the grey look good.  maybe with a lower case c.

Sorry but I'm personally not fond of the Bitcoin symbol.

The bottom part of this, maybe with a big C around the B, and maybe that B is the Bitcoin symbol. End with the (). Very simple, but captures the C aspect. Don't beat anyone over the head with too many concepts in one logo.

Thank you for all the feedback so far.

I like subSTRATA's last idea. Indeed something simple such as that could be produced, maybe incorporating the bitcoin symbol as mentioned.

Hey,

Most of the candidates are way too complex to be good logos.

Option 7 and 8 are the only reasonable ones, and both can be improved/simplified to the following edit:

not crazy about the closed brace.  too busy.  But the colored dots on the "i"'s might be a nice touch.

All of the ones in the OP are horrible to the point of unusability.

SubSTRATA's idea is wonderful.

It just needs a hash in front to make it "C".

Like this

#Bitcoin;

looks like a twitter hash tag.  and the semicolon just doesn't work in any of the deisgns

It's about "being C". Any C programmer automatically associates the hash tag with the #include statement, which is great for a library because it is going to be "included". The semicolon is for the end of a command, so the #bitcoin; comes out in a programmers mind as "include bitcoin and you're done."

definitely like 2 better.  Don't know what that thing is in the middle of the "C" is... (I know what it is but as a viewer it doesn't "say" anything to me).

Once again, thank you for all the ideas and suggestions. It's been a massive help. The # symbol is one idea though it shouldn't include a semicolon to be C-like as pre-processor directives are not terminated via a semi-colon.

I've been told to ask that no-one edits and reposts the designs with copyright on them. That isn't to do with me, I was just asked to mention that. But once again I appreciate the feedback.

Thanks.

If something can be improved, I'll improve it. I'm happy for all the credit to go to the original artist though.

I do very much appreciate your efforts. I was passing on the wishes of the designer, so what I said about the copyright is not from my own concerns but theirs. I do not think they want their name attributed to any design alterations. But if you have any ideas you can produce them without taking directly from the original designs, of-course.

Once I have the final logo the copyright will be with me but at this stage it is not.

But thank you and everyone else for the feedback.
