Title: what happens if someone reaches 1000000 post count?
Post by: jackg on November 27, 2015, 05:12:37 PM
If someone reaches a million posts; what happens then!
It will happen eventually for some users if they have their account for a long time.
I was just wondering what would happen? Would they get banned for spamming?

ALSO: what is the largest post count that exists now?

They will not get anything done if their posts are constructive and not just one word or character posts.
I think I saw someone with 16000 posts so 1000000 is not humanly possible to do unless you have a bot. Which in that case that is not allowed.

If that ever happen the only living you will have is sleep, eat and be online at bitcointalk. Would not be good for you I guess.

The one with most posts is: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=24792

Then there is this guy too: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=99297 with 19k posts, he posts 30+ posts a day

I very highly doubt that the forum will last long enough for someone to gain 1,000,000 posts. Even if someone posted 20 posts per day every day without fail, it would take them over 136 years to get to 1,000,000.
Of course it would also be case by case. If the user made 1,000,000 useful posts they would of course not be banned. If the user tried to make 1,000,000 spam posts they would likely be banned after the first thouand or so.

Also, you can see the stats of users/the forum here (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=stats). It could likely answer any further questions you have about records.

Nothing, he will only reach the special rank 'spammer'  ;D.

If you make 10 000 posts yearly it will still take you 100 years to reach that post count. In other words it is pretty much impossible within your lifetime. Even if you reach that amount, nothing will happen. Phinnaeus Gage has the most posts (~21.4k) even though he has been inactive for a while.

All i need to do is live to 115 and post 10000 posts a year, or 200 posts a week!

This man is correct, but only if they are posting comments that are not even relevant to the topics they post on. ;D

Or before you die you can pass of your account to your grand children to keep posting for you.

U see first one is here from 2013 and second one from 2011. So one made 10 000 posts in one year other 5 per year. So first will need 100 years, second twice more for 1 000 000 posts. This sounds like imposible, but if they are young and they stay at this forum they will be first to reach that number of posts.

That being said, you should have posting here since the day you we're born and keeps on for 100+ years, all your life. Did you think of that?

Someone have searched the code before: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1194826.msg12551893#msg12551893
and the sentence 'I am a geek!' would be shown as the post count when the number of posts is more than 100,000, i.e. same for users achieved 1,000,000 posts.

Doubt we'll see anyone with 1,000,000 posts for a looong, looooong time, if ever. I don't think whoever may be able to make that amount of posts will be actively using Bitcointalk for long enough to make that many posts.

You'd need to make something like 50 posts a day for just under 50 years in order to get a million posts.

Well I would say Amph can reach 100.000 easily in the next few years, 100k is not impossible. That's a pretty funny easter egg tho, I wonder if there are more.

;D Have a possibility if someone do 50 posts per day for 58 years. But i don't think that someone can do 50 posts a day and forum will allow the user to further post on this forum. :o

to reach one million post it needs a lot of effort and time

even this bot did not reach 20k posts yet https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=110685

You'd need to be able to post 25 msgs per day, which is 25 posts for 40000 days, which is 109.52 years. Start farming posts!
Why would anyone put any effort into all this? :)

Unless an admin has added more, afaik the only other one is that your post count changes to 'leet' when you reach 1337 posts. Like this: https://i.imgur.com/rLqDltF.png

Also :

You guys made me search the SMF source..

Code:
'posts' => $profile['posts'] > 100000 ? $txt[683] : ($profile['posts'] == 1337 ? 'leet' : comma_format($profile['posts'])),

So there IS actually another easter egg, just not that boob-thing lol. Upon more than 100.000 posts you get the following permanent post count:

Code:
 $txt[683] = 'I am a geek!!';

Seems fair.

If you have made one million posts then your account automatically gets promoted to admin and 99.6% of your posts will get deleted.

For proof, just look at both of the admins....they both have more then 4,000 and less then a million posts.... coincidence? I think not

lol admin can set number on how many posts made even not showing them or have made but can change if really wanted to. 1 million post could be made if it was an account that posted daily and none stop and on 24/7 but no doubt end up getting banned for spam.

Nothing would happen! I mean why anything would supposed to happen? But we will have to wait heluva long time for someone to reach 1,000,000 posts. About 100 years maybe of waiting?

Nothing happens except your Activity will turn into "I am a geek!!". Refer here (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1194826.msg12551893#msg12551893)

When you have at least 300 activity points, you can make 1 post every 8 seconds. Refer here (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=253190.msg2702160#msg2702160)
In a day, we have 24 hours and that is equivalent to 86400 seconds.

Code:
24 hours = 86400 seconds
86400 / 8 = 10800 maximum posts a day (for user with at least 300 activity points)
1000000 / 10800 = 92.59259259259259 days to reach 1 million posts
So, yes, it is possible to reach 1 million posts in a short time, but still need the help of bot for sure.

I don't really know if what will be happen next.
Maybe there's nothing to do about if he/she posted a constructive post the he/she won't get banned.

Firstly, no one will reach a million posts. None has even posted a hundred thousand. Not even half of a hundred thousand.

Secondly, even of someone did post a million posts, their be looked down on as a spammer. Nothing else would happen, maybe their post count will clip with their actual post....

You are totally wrong. Because it is really possible to reach 1 million posts, probably with the help of bot.

...maybe their post count will clip with their actual post...
What do you mean by "clip with their actual post"? ???
