Title: When will I recieve my bitcoin?
Post by: bestyaneverhad on November 30, 2015, 11:30:51 PM
First time buying a bitcoin. Downloaded bitcoin core. Bought a bitcoin off ebay. Made a receiving URL, and gave it to seller. Seller transfered it to the url I gave him. Yet when I open b.c.core there says there are no transactions, and my balance is still zero.

Maybe your wallet isn't synched up to date with the blockchain for it to see it yet.

You could post your address or TX here so we can help you look it up on the blockchain or just find yourself a blockchain explorer to look it up yourself..

If there isn't problem with your wallet address try to contact the seller within the few coming days to resolve this issue for you
This problems happen usually but get resolved after contacting the seller services

You need at least 4 days to download the whole blockchain to see the transaction in core. If you just want to check the balance in your address, you can use a bitcoin explorer. Paste your address in the form and see how much is in there:

Usually a transaction takes between 5 minutes and 1 hour.  Which receiving url did you give?
What is your bitcoin address? You can validate if the bitcoins are sent here: https://blockchain.info/ (https://blockchain.info/)

The BTC is in that addy, it seems the seller sent it just fine. You will just have to wait for the wallet to finish downloading the blockchain..

You don't need to contact any support. If that's your address then the seller sent the 0.1 BTC and you received it. The only problem here is your wallet (bitcoin core) needs to download the whole blockchain (https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Block_chain).

If you'll have a normal/basic (no dev, no research) use of bitcoin then I strongly recommend you to get other wallet instead. You can use one that doesn't require to download every block. For example you can get Electrum (https://electrum.org/#home), but there are other options (https://www.bitcoin.com/choose-your-wallet?category=desktop).

Regarding the current transaction to your address (not URL) you have 2 options: 1) Wait a couple of days until the whole blockchain is download and it appears in your wallet. Then you can send the funds to your new light wallet. 2) The other options is exporting the private key from your core wallet and sweeping it into your new one. That's advanced and I recommend you to use that only if you need to move the received coins urgently. Here's more information about that: Export (http://bitcoin.stackexchange.com/questions/4203/how-can-i-export-the-private-key-for-an-address-from-the-satoshi-client), Sweep (http://docs.electrum.org/en/latest/faq.html#can-i-sweep-private-keys-from-other-bitcoin-clients).

On a cautionary note, Bitcoin core took three days for me to download the blockchain completely. I had to leave my computer on all day and night for my wallet to sync...  :o You will receive it when you get the entire blockchain downloaded completely and last time I checked it was 20 GB+

What is your bitcoin address? You can validate if the bitcoins are sent here: https://blockchain.info/ (https://blockchain.info/)

Actually the transaction is almost instant, as soon as you send/receive BTCTC, you can see it in your wallet (if it is synced) or on a block explorer. What you're talking about is the confirmations and on average it takes about 10 minutes for a confirmation. Don't confuse Bitcoin transactions with confirmations.

@OP, did you release the funds on ebay before checking for BTC payments?? Check it on a block explorer as mentioned above asap and never release funds before a Tx has atleast 3 confirmations.

-snip-You will receive it when you get the entire blockchain downloaded completely and last time I checked it was 20 GB+
For the balance to appear, it does not have to be fully synchronized. As soon as the client has synchronized to the block which the TX was included in, the transaction will appear and you can spend it assuming you didn't use the wallet to send anything before.

@OP, did you release the funds on ebay before checking for BTC payments?? Check it on a block explorer as mentioned above asap and never release funds before a Tx has atleast 3 confirmations.
For the latest Bitcoin Core, it is safe to accept transactions as valid at 1 confirmation, no huge risk for waiting any longer. Anyway, the TX has more than 100 confirmations right now.

I wouldn't recommend you to export your private key under any circumstances, it is quite a risk to do so. You have 2 options:
1) Wait for the client to synchronize and use it or transfer to another SPV client.
2) Generate a raw TX from a trusted service like coinb.in and send to your destination or another SPV Client.
Quote
1. Go to https://coinb.in/#newTransaction to generate a new transaction.
2. Fill in your address and put your desired output. Remember to include a change address (if you didn't spend everything into one output), I would put my origin address OR directly transfer it into another SPV wallet and input the address in the SPV Address as the change address for the time being. And click submit and copy the text in the box.
3. Go to Help>Debug console>Console and key in this: decoderawtransaction [paste here #2] and ensure that the information is correct.
4. Key in this: signrawtransaction [paste here #2]   and copy the text.
5. Broadcast it: sendrawtransacton [paste here #4]

At any rate, I will go with 1 if I don't need it.

First off, you did not buy a Bitcoin { a whole coin} ....you bought 0.1 BTC .... How much did you pay for that? If you use this address --> https://blockchain.info/ and you paste your Bitcoin address in the search

box, you would see the transaction and the BTC transfered to that address. You did receive some Satoshi, but not a full coin.  ;) What was your arrangement with the seller... ? To buy a full coin...?

Just wait for the full download to complete and after it synced, your amount will be displayed.  ;D

once you sit there and sync your wallet which will take like 5 days if you leave it on 10-12 hours a day then get an electrum wallet. This syncs fast and kicks ass

i think you waste your hardisk space and your bandwith if you buying only 0,1BTC and use Bitcoin Core
I prefered you to use mobile wallet or other wallet in your dekstop like electrum wallet

anyway Goodluck and welcome to bitcoin comunity

If you want to receive an instant as such should not use bitcoin core wallet, disposable wallet others that do not require to download blockchain in advance, there is some wallet for example, electrum and multibit

They do download the block headers but not the entire blockchain. They take a few minutes to synchronise and take up much lesser space. For daily users, this is recommended.

Why buy bitcoin in ebay? It is like to buy bread in a store specialized in clothing. Bitcoin can be bought in exchanges. It is true that ebay is for everything. And as such even for bitcoin. But even in my country in deep villages or areas there are stores who sell everything. Because of lack of consumers cannot is possible to be sold all the same things in separate stores for every specific product. That does not mean that even in the capital of the country where I live must be so. The same even for ebay. Can be bought there if it will be not possible to find bitcoin in their natural "store". Which are exchanges. From those everything is more easy to do, more fast and more professional.

Synchronizing a wallet means that the client is downloading the blocks from your peers. To do so, your client needs at least 1 outgoing connection. Go to Help>Debug Window> Information and you should see the connections. It should be something like
Code:
Number of connections: (In:58/Out:8)
Make sure you have at least 1 out. You will be fine as long as the Current number of blocks increases with time. Depending on your internet, CPU and IO speed, it can take up to a day. Leave it there till you see a tick at the bottom right of the client.

Yeah but they way overcharge because at ebay you're paying with Paypal I guess and which is why they charge extra, I wouldn't recommend it. Other exchanges like LBC are better for buying/selling BTC but lately I am seeing big price differences there also, don't know what to make of it.

sometime bitcoin transaction will delay, its happen to me several time. and its happen because many thing,
and people from coinbase will answer that :
Brian from Coinbase here. Sorry you experienced delays! There have been some issues in the past that we are working to improve. Coinbase sends a high volume of bitcoin transactions (often in parallel across many machines), and as a result we sometimes encounters issues that are uncommon elsewhere. In this case, I believe the root of the issue was around spending coins where the inputs were not in a block yet. We broadcast a large number of transactions, and sometimes other nodes receive them out of order (the transaction that spends the change could arrive before the transaction that generated the change). The official client, bitcoind, had an issue (unclear whether it was a bug, or intended) where a transaction in the orphan pool that got connected up (it's input transaction finally arrived) did not subsequently get relayed to the rest of the network like a regular transaction. We've been chatting with Gavin about this to see what solutions could make it into a near term release.

Your wallet balance is showing 0.10 BTC.

You just need to sync your wallet completely. Present Core database file size is 55.5 GB, So you need to wait till your wallet sync completely to view your transaction in your wallet.

You need to leave your wallet OPEN, thats all.  It will sync itself and download all the database (55.5 GB) into your computer.  It depends on your internet speed, how much time you need to wait (1 day or 1 week).

Bitcoin it's already in your wallet, but you need to sync your wallet. It will take very long time to sync if you are new with bitcoin core.

If you want faster way, try to backup your private key, then import export your private key into blockchain.info. After you see your bitcoin balance, move your bitcoin asap into another wallet like multibit or electrum.

So you don't have to wait very long time, and download all transaction.
