well I guess you can also use coinbase, although you have to provide personal info.

It is fast and quite secure for me.

Selling bitcoins without a license in NY is illegal - if you are in NY you are not allowed to buy or sell on localbitcoins.  Any regular trader there would refuse your business if they knew you were in NY State.

If you're in NYC though, NJ isn't far.

Bitcoin trading in New York due to BitLicense is rather problematic and inconvenient . That is why some of the bitcoin companies and services decided to leave that area.
However there are Gemini. The new and hyped bitcoin exchange platform, if you are fine with registering with all your credentials there (they are very trusted) then you are fine to go.

You're right about KYC not being a legal service.

KYC is an abbreviation for "Know Your Customer"

Which doesn't keep using a Teenagers fake ID from being idiotic.

I use Coinbase myself and I am very pleasantly happy with my experience so far. Everything has been smooth and fantastic. Coinbase also has a mobile app that keeps me up to date on everything and I can see my coins in my wallet. The only issue is the personal information that needs to be given and identity verification but I have had no troubles whatsoever.

buy face to face small amount then, no one will trace you ever, certainly new york is a pain in the ass right now with all those useless rules, but it's doable

There's a thread exactly like this. Please use the search button before you post :D

Id recommend localbitcoins.com (http://localbitcoins.com), add you can find sellers near you and you can arrange a meeting IRL. It's much more comforting knowing the guy your buying bitcoin's from isn't some dodgy dealer sitting behind his laptop 24/7

How much are you looking for? If it's not a very big amount you can always consider finding a Bitcoin ATM. In NYC there are many. If this doesn't suit you than of course you have Gemini exchange.

Another option is finding someone here on the forum that would be willing to meet you in person and sell you some coins. There are many users here from NYC. Just post an add in the Currency exchange thread!

I've traded BTC in person in NYC before but it was before the new laws went into effect.  I think you should be able to go over to Jersey City and trade pretty easily.
