Bitcoin Core is the easiest wallet to start out with. It stores all your Bitcoins on your local computer. There are also wallet apps available to download to from your phone. If you're just starting out, I would recommend joining a signature campaign only of you're going to be constructive and on topic.

I dont agree with the Bitcoin Core as easiest wallet to start out with, because you need to sync (few days for single core CPU) and download around 60 GB. Much easier is Electrum where you dont need to download and sync full blockchain.

These days there is an unexpected newbies enthusiasm for Xapo, because  it is very popular between faucets users, although I can realize that it is not so reliable for most old bitcoiners...  ;D

OP, go here: Choose your wallet - Bitcoin (https://bitcoin.org/en/choose-your-wallet) and you can choose the wallet according to your need. There is no such thing as a popular wallet, each wallet has it's own usage. If you want to have the whole blockchain then download and use Bitcoin Core, if you want a desktop wallet but don't want to download the whole blockchain, then go for something like Electrum (This is the one I would recommend). And Mycelium is a good wallet for the mobile.

I won't recommend you using an online wallet such as blockchain.info because your funds are not safe there imho. Just visit the link above and decide on your own.

are there still problem in downloading 60gb in 2016? i don't think so, if he live in the usa or any advance country, you can do it in few hours, then you do a backup of the blockchain so you don't need to do it again the next time(at least it will sync faster)

newbie can use multibit for small amount, but for greater amount i prefer core, for mobile the popular is Mycelium

Multibit is good for those who are holding multiple accounts but I prefer to go for localbitcoins wallet as it is very much safe and can be helpful when you need to convert your btc to your local currency so I would prefer localbitcoins wallet, multibit is also safe but if you want to convert it to fiat you need to transfer your btc to localbitcoins.

Is a web wallet so can enetr on it in every part of the world with a computer, a smartphone and a connection in internet. pay all the fees of every send of bitcoin which in other wallets are paid by the user (by you). Have any kind of fee having bitcoin there. 98% of customer funds are stored offline. So every hacker will find only a few satoshi if will be able to hack this wallet. 2 step verification in several modes. I have chosen Authy which allow me to have (produce) in my smartphone (or in my desktop with password) the code which allow me to enter on it. So no one cannot enter except me. Only me have my smartphone. And have no fear that the code don't arrive in my cell if it will be used the 2 step authentication with the send of the code in it from another external machine (device).

I think blockchain.info is the most popular, even though it's not that safe.
And for the old users, I think Bitcoin Core is more popular.

And disk storage. Unfortunately, disk space is still a huge huge concern right now, with the CPU verification. USA doesn't have particularly fast internet and the CPU is almost always the bottleneck. Multibit or Electrum is secure enough and you only need a backup.

Bitcoin Core does potentially have over 10k users but most are just for the sole purpose of running a node. I would say Blockchain.info to be one of the most popular ones since it claims to have "good" security and have a high search ranking.

The most popular wallet ins't per se the best wallet. For me personally the best wallet is the Bitcoin Core client. I have been using the original client since the very beginning. One of the more important things of the wallet is that it allows me to run a full node.

have both xapo and coinbase and like both but like coinbase more their interface feel more "Pc/android" and xapo more like something apple would have come up with. just my opinion. other than that they are equal i guess.

Not sure which is most popular in the world but I prefer Coinbase and Xapo.  Coinbase seems very secure and they have good customer service when needed.  I also like their vault with the 48 hour waiting period and double confirmations to pull from vault.  Xapo is good for faucets and microtransactions - although customer support at Coinbase said there is no charge to receive micro-transactions.  I have used both wallets for awhile now and have had no issues.

It is definately blockchain.info founded and backed up by well known and trusty personal. Don't put your coin in new online wallet as they can steal your coin without your permission. Blockchain have almost every feature required for bitcoin.

Not really. Blockchain.info have many issues back then. There is too many problem with them in the last month.

Blockchain.info has to be the most popular. If you want a service without hassles and no huge downloads, you have to consider this option. They have had a couple of issues

with the random number generator and also some issues on the Android OS { That flaw affected the generation of private keys for bitcoin addresses. } but it was quickly spotted

and rectified.  ;) ... All this was back in 2013.

Multibit, Electrum don't need huge space nor bandwidth either. SPV clients are light and secure. Blockchain.info has a high ranking on search engines due to their SEO and afterall, PayPal and other payment processors uses username and password. People would likely be going this route.

There was a huge security flaw that costed users their private keys[1] and a random.org change that resulted in the same private key generated over and over again[2].

For most, downloading 60 GB is not a problem at all, but for few with crappy connection like paying per MB it might be issue, thats why my warning. Also it is reasonable to expect the sync to take 1 day of CPU work if you dont have good CPU. So definitively not recommended to try Bitcoin Core for newcommer in my opinion, unless he knows what he is doing.

Electrum or blockchain info should be generally better for newcommers imo.

I can say that blockchain is the best wallet I've ever used. Their interface is simple and very easy to use.
Although they got a problem recently, I'm usually preparing myself another offline wallet to confront this problem

Blockchain.info is likely the most popular wallet, mainly because it is user friendly and multi platform being online based.

I also think their Android app stands above the alternatives as it's the most aesthetically pleasing.

To answer your question, there are several good wallets which you can try out.
Bitcoin Core is the most known one. For that one you need to download the the actual client and just install it.This whole process can take some while as you have to download the whole Blockchain, which is bit more than 30GB right now I believe.
Another great wallet for desktop I like to recommend is Electrum. Pretty simple to use, kind of self explaining and fast to install.
For mobile phones there many options. Here I prefer MyCelium.

As stated, Bitcoin core is the original wallet but it does require a lot of hard-drive space. It is easily 20+ GB of data. I recommend Multibit HD or Electrum as you can easily download them and only partially download the blockchain. You can easily back up your wallet with seed words with makes it much more simple. Blockchain.info wallet is incredibly useful also. You can store all your coins on the web wallet. It is truly up to you to decide.

Unfortunately this is true! They have over 500k active wallets which is mind-blowing to me if we consider how buggy and unreliable they are!

I do not recommend them to anyone, even though they might be the most popular one!

it's well known that the online wallet service from blockchain.info is by far the most popular wallet. i also use it, but only with small amounts as i don't want to leave much coins in any online wallet. the coins i have in my online wallet are probably 50% of what i would have in my physical wallet.

I think web based, centralized wallet service will have a large market share at the beginning, when people are all used to centralized banking services around the world today. Suppose that some large banks provide wallet service, there will be many people switch to that service quickly

The most popular wallet is blockchain.info

It may be popular but it is not the most safest option. The best best for you is a paper wallet or something like electrum. Blockchain.info is probably very popular due to it being so easy and convenient to use and that it is also a web wallet.

I think that Bitcoin core is the most popular wallet.

It depends on which demographic we're considering here.  The online wallets like xapo and blockchain.io are popular with those who like throwing dust around the ledger.  But, a full node wallet like Bitcoin Core is the most popular with the serious bitcoiner who considers the security of the network.

I use both...I do my part to secure the network by running a full node wallet and I support the community by dusting the blockchain with my online wallet.

I use both blockchain and coinbase both are user friendly

I've read that blockchain has their issues, that's why I decided to use coinbase as well

Better to be safe than sorry later and also a local wallet would be good too.
