Do you have some predictions for 2016 related to Bitcoin? Something related in the theme of regulation,
price, growth, industrial consolidation, etc?

I am certain regulations will continue to advance into new territory. NY and CA seem to be leading the way here in the US, even though their approaches may be flawed. I think regulation is inevitable. Especially in a new industry with almost countless high profile scams, hacks, or what-have-you. What the bitcoin community needs to do, is to get our voices heard in the government. This is done in two ways: give money to politicians campaign to influence their policy views (not corruption according to the supreme court lolllll) or give money to lobbyists who, by the transitive property, pretty much do the same thing as a rich and spoiled middleman.

I think it is the responsibility of the corporates and whales of the bitcoin ecosystem. The millionaire early adopters and billion dollar companies should be the first to want to influence regulations and laws so that they are in our favor. Unfortunately, that is how it works in the US.

The kind of talk above must be hilarious for Russians and Chinese given bitcoins pseudo-legal status there. I'd like to hear from some people outside of the West about their country's stance on cryptocurrencies and what kinds of laws and regulations they impose.

here is 5 predictions

1. many countries governments will clarify that they cannot allow their banks to invest in bitcoin(the currency) directly, as the banks regulated insurer wont insure bitcoin holdings. clarifying this is about banks not able to hold/invest bitcoin internally but average joe personally CAN do what they like.

2. because of point 1, banks will create their own altcoins, which they can fully manage and control the entire circulation and rates. Thus pass the criteria to get it insured and thus hold/invest in their alt.

3. block halving to increase bitcoins fiat value

4. atleast 10 people will be reported, questioned or arrested by the SEC for running dodgy bitcoin businesses (scam/HYIP/binary options/investment groups)

5. lots of people screaming that the bitcoin fiat value is spiking. followed by lots of people screaming its going to crash to nothing

This is actually exactly how money used to be printed. In the early 1800s US our monetary policy was that of "free banking." Essentially, every bank would print its own paper money to circulate. I feel that the cryptocurrency movement will bring us close, once again, to free banking and decentralized monetary policy. However, the people standing in the way of this are the powerful multinational corporate banks and the politicians they have bought. This will all change for the better soon though. I am sure.

I have only three predictions to do. That are more my desires than my predictions. Because I am sure that cannot be preconditions about bitcoin. Have no data to do analyses or better have no sure data that can help to give acceptable predictions. First, I "predict" that the price will increase. Most probably after the halving but cannot be strange to be verified such situation even before it. Second, I "predict" that will increase the number of countries which will regulate it and will increase its regulation in these where is already regulated or almost regulated or semi regulated (like China for example). Hope to see one or more countries accept it as a currency, typical fully currency which can act with the full rights like the national currency of that country. Third, I "predict" that bitcoin will see more spread and this spread will affect directly my first "prediction": the increase of price.

I will be more than happy if even one the above become true. It will be enough for me only that this verification can be permanent.

About point 5 there is no doubt of course.This is a typical bitcoiner behaviour.Fits perfect for the rollercoaster! :D

for 4 probably 10 people evry week will get arrested
for 5 it's already happening all the time

price will increase because of the hype around the halving

new wave of newbies will come because of the increase

new wave of robbed wallets and coins stolen because of the newbie wave

possible better adoption that will force to solve at least partially the block limit debate

My prediction in 2016 is... ...bitcoin will still not go mainstream ;D

Im also expecting bitcoin price will go lower on the first quarter then will rise after.

Nothing strange in my opinion! Bitcoin is still not ready for the masses and I think that masses are still not ready for Bitcoin either. I would actually be happy if we would go really mainstream until the year 2020. This would definitely be a success!

Probably growth in price spcially due to the halving which is likely to happen in 2016.

More people will adapt to bitcoin and are wanting to invest in it.

Next boom may be fiat's last gasp before death.

I hope more country starting to do some research about bitcoin.

Then many people will attracted about what bitcoin is. After people panic then Moon is very near :D.

But also i hope ponzi scheme like cryptodouble which is very hot in last january did not happen again.

My prediction is quite controversial .... but here goes anyway :

1. The Banks will start pushing their own Blockchain  based "Private" ledgers.

2. They will then start influencing the politicians to regulate and ban Bitcoin use in favor of their technology. {Their technology will adhere to all KYC/AML regulations}

3. Bitcoin will see a small spike in the price, just after the Halvening, but it will go back to it's original price before the Halvening soon after that.

4. Much stronger regulation on all encryption based technology will hamper further growth potential in countries targeted by terrorism.

Bitcoin will still survive, but it will grow slower than in 2015.   

My prediction is,bitcoin will same as this year,some unpredict price,and many more mass adoption.

More mass adoption even within 6 months of next year. I am so excited to see the next new all time high price for bitcoin. Inspite of the bad news roaming around you can see bitcoin price hasn't gone down till now, which shows bitcoin are getting more adaption.

this is a good prediction! your first and second prediction might happen,
but the fifth prediction is spot on even right now it is happening,

- Price will be stable $500+ on november 2016. (Because of halvening & mining balance)
- Banks will publish "blockchain tech is a shit" to harm Bitcoin's integrity.
- Price of btc will be more stable in 2016.

- More rise and drops.
- More talk about bitcoin used by the gang of four
- Rise beyond 1000
- More investment

Here are my predictions :D

Will grow a little in value due to halving and slowly increasing interest on it.

Some revolutionary app comes and makes the user base increase because of it.

Mining disminishes due to the halving, which makes more miners go into alts.

Some governments begin to instruct people about it and more regulations come.

Some country will probably ban the use of bitcoins.

This can be a good predictions, I hope so that 500 dollar well be a stable money for Bitcoin.

Yeah banks won't agree about bitcoin and we all know that so yeah.

"Steady as she goes"......... ;D

I hope not I just want that a lot of countrie will accept bitcoins.

But I don't think there will be so much country that will ban bitcoins otherwise it was ban before.

Mining difficulty will reach unimaginable levels. Yet next-generation ASICs will hash at speeds also unimaginable. You heard it here first.

1- We will not see below-$200 coins again.
2- Mining hardware will hit below-0.14w/GH efficiency level.
3- Price will reach a new all time high.
4- Mining difficulty will more than triple.
5- Mining rewards will be cut in half.
6- Bitcoin accepted by more Fortune 500 companies.
7- Increased investment by venture capitalists.
8- A large exchange will be hacked and unable to cover deposits.
9- More arrests will be made for in-person sales of Bitcoin and even ATM operators.
10- More talk of the Blockchain being the future and not Bitcoin.

Also, I predict further breakthroughs on anonymity, sidechains, the lightning network, and similarly innovative ways to build atop the network.

Same as mine.

If this happens growth in users.
More ex- bitcoin users might come back also.
Faucets payment will be low.
Selling of bitcoins. Some will not hold it if they see the increase.
That might make bitcoin fall again.

My prediction in 2016 is gonna skyrocket :D

I honestly think that 2016 will be a very interesting year for bitcoin. The end of 2015 has marked a potential market movement that will keep gaining traction.

1. Halving hype will cause some serious fluctuation in price. Even though it has no effect on the value of the coins minted already, people still believe it. This believe will move the market.
2. A new all time high will be reached. We are already building momentum and I think we will breach current ATH twice next year. Once before halving and one several months after that.
3. More major online retailers will accept bitcoin.
4. One big exchange (not cryptsy) will get into serious trouble, causing instability in the price.
5. We will see an explosion of USD millionaires through bitcoin next year.

This are some good predictions interesting top 10.

"We will not see below-$200 coins again." That will be great not to low for some people and not to high if some people want that bitcoin will go low.

That can be a good amount of money to buy some bitcoin.

Just and the most important.

At least 3 major vendors/merchants will accept Bitcoin in their shop.

My main prediction is the full adoption of bitcoin as a regular currency in paypal. Well, at least it is a cherished dream for many bitcoiners. Bitcoin will return to 1000-1200 but I don't think in $2000 yet.

My prediction for the next year are:
Amazon will implement the bitcoin as the payment method for their users.
Ebay will start negotation to implement bitcoin, another one will be the high pumps and high dumps.

here are my predictions
- bitcoin price will be doubled from now at some time next year (buy now before its too late :D )
- then one major exchange will scam "collapse" between the 3rd and 4th quarter
- there will be a big bitcoin news that will change the (bitcoin) world

Yup, this is the way I see it too.  I don't know about the time frame, but eventually, these things will come true.  Bitcoin will survive, but it will be pushed further out into the fringe user realm and black market transactions.

In 2016, Bitcoin will be severely scrutinized by western governments which have taken an extreme stance in the battle against terrorism.

That's what I see for 2016 happening as well.

I can't wait for the price to hit a new high and see where else it will take us as a bitcoin community.

So, what you're predicting is pretty much how things were already in the year 2015?  Funny, I have to agree with these predictions almost one hundred percent!  They really cannot be denied.  If talk of more serious regulations fits into the subset within the union of intersecting predictions #9 and #10....then I would have to agree here even more!

1. Price increase will begin in April.
2. Price will be at least double what the price is at the start of April by the end of the year but will not reach the all time high.
3. Construction will begin on the world's first seastead and confirm that the currency of the seastead will be bitcoins.
4. At least 1000 new alt coins will be created.
5. The Winklevoss ETF will go public.

I think this is not a prediction, but the stages in 2016, bitcoin price will surely grow ride, :D

but I am not so sure, if everyone would adopt bitcoin in 2016

i this will most likely to happen cuz all of them will try to gain from btc start rising, but the number you mentioned might be huge 100 would do fine in this process

why not January or february, beginning of year 2016 ?

i don't think so, the altcoin creation is slowed down very heavily i the last few months, they are not worth anything even at launch, people learned to not fall for them anymore

i'm not expecting more than one new altcoin per week


because 3 months prior the halving is a good estimate about the price increase incited by the halving itself, i'm also on the same prediction

the same happened with litecoin 3 months before it the hype for the halving increased the value

50 experts predict how it will be in future. After reading this I`m even more optimistic (if its possible), everything going in good way this days and bitcoin can just go up, where will it settle that is hard to predict, for me it would be nice to be somewhere around 1 000 $.

History won't always repeat. You trust the charts of the past way too much. Don't forget that the main difference next year will be the block halving. Which means the chances of seeing the price go up significantly is easy to predict. Next year the price might start to go up in January.

The only reason I feel like its not just the 10 predictions mentioned above.

No one seems to mention on the overwhelming situations where other countries happen to be in that need bitcoin.

We seen it with greece, venezula, and now its going to be russia followed with several other countries.

You can do your own homework with russia, but it shouldnt be too hard when you know the countries money is split in half.

I will support this last the most we that more then ever

Seems like 2016 has lots of things happening and actually a better time for bitcoin unlike the early stages like anything..

The paypal partnering up with coinbase I know I said it before on a few threads, but thats huge.

Its like these events should of had happened during 2013 though or when we start having more bitcoin debit cards.

1- Bitcoin will be over $1000

2- Trump will be elected president.

3- ISIS is fully thrown out of Iraq

4- Putin will have more Georgian soil back

5- Elon Musk will announce a new EV by years end.

I was already proven deadly wrong, with my prediction of the top price of the year. I said we won't exceed $600, with the price stabilizing between $500 and 600 at the end of the year.
Let's see if I am correct on the second part of my prediction.

I agree with your first point of view, in 2016 to break the $1000 mark should not be a problem.

Only time can tell us this dingmei. But I think I'll be right on all of mine. Maybe not number 5. But its possible.

1 is potentially possible but unlikely, 2 is more than likely as long as Trump doesn't screw up and the rest of the population starts to listen to the debates and think for themselves, 3 is probably 30/70 chance of happening, 4 is less than 30/70, 5 is probably not going to happen.

2016 is definitely shaping up to be a really, really interesting year. The Brexit, the American Election, the halving, a lot of things are going on, and I think that's great.

My number one prediction of 2016 is that the price is going to reach $1000 but only if the price is not going to be stable for a long time.
That is what I hope for that will happen this year, I do not have anything else that I really hope for.

Things aren't that easy. In order to get the price to reach the $1000 level there has to be a massive amount of buy support. Once the price goes over $900 it will be a stormy sea where massive amounts of coins will get dumped and the price jumps up and down several times a day.

I think that bitcoin prize will go  to 500$ and later again to 800$ and it will happent many times but every time highest prize will be bigger and bigger.

well it is said that the predictions are for year 2016 so i guess it should happen in something like half a year, though it would have a really bad impact on bitcoin then i think

my prediction would be that bitcoin will increase in price a lot and that is really possible i think because bitcoin block reward is going to happen thus a lot of people will buy bitcoins

Are you serious?  #3 is already almost happened. I think within the next few weeks we'll here that Iraq was liberated and that all ISIS has fled.

I agree my #1 is iffy. But the halving is about to happen, the news will be all over it and we'll have the next rush of new money coming into btc.

yup 1k is quite possible this year maybe higher but for that things must be good
on #2 hard to happen think that thing that again Clinton Family will be in white house

I am also hoping for something like that to happen with in 2016 but I do not think that it is going to happen. We will have to wait and see what is going to happen after the halving.
That is going to explain allot and makes it easier to speculate about the price.
