Title: List of known bitcointalk spam bots?
Post by: Sir_lagsalot on December 04, 2015, 09:48:01 AM
Hey guys, i'd like to know if there was a sort of a list of spam bots, so I could block them, or mods could use this list for other reasons. I've seen a few dodgy and irrelevant posts before, there's bound to be more.

Spambots would be banned once they're found out so not sure why you would want to block them.

Oh. How do you admins and mods worm out these bots? I, myself have trouble telling the difference between fact and fiction in some cases. Do you all have a sort of system that finds repeated posts?

No. Mostly users just report them to moderator or post in the meta section. I have reported several of them to both Meta and to moderators and they all got banned shortly. If you see them, just put the link to the copied post and state that it's copied. It will work just fine.

For some repeat offenders (such as MrFudged) I believe a bot has been set up to detect and ban such users automatically, rather than them having to be reported and banned manually.

Heh. I've heard that name before and wondered why a guy would need so many accounts xD

What shit was he trying to spam? Ads? Surely if he was farming accounts, he'd have the decency to change his name...

And how many units of evil would his IP have?!

IIRC he was spamming some KNC miner hate and begging for funds.

He did, he didn't only use the name MrFudged. He just made several hundred/thousands of accounts for each name he made.

And how many units of evil would his IP have?!
I think he used TOR, so had a different IP every time. If he did this on a static IP he would likely be spending hundreds of dollars per account he made by now.

There are various methods employed some of which have been stated above but most are just reported by users and nuked. There are different types of bots with different agendas and goals as well. Some people try farm accounts by copying and pasting others posts, some just spam advertise, and ones like MrFudged/NotLambChop just do it to troll their opinion.

I have a bot running that nukes accounts that contain a certain username or when they make a post that contains a certain set of words/characters. In the last 12 hours, it nuked 49 members with a total of 3282 members nuked since it's last DB reset.

49? That's a pretty big number. We're they all from MrFuged? xD

Could you tell us if they were from the same IP? Is there a way you can IP-ignore a person? There are a few people who really bug me on this forum, and I can't help but think they have alts

Should be pretty easy to guess
No, I believe there are other bot spammers except MrFudged here
Could you tell us if they were from the same IP?
Registering from the same IP is not sustainable due to the fee you have to pay , when you have units of evil, and that is also the answer to your question:
Is there a way you can IP-ignore a person?
Mods do that for you, as IPs have units of evil after each ban/nuke, its not likely that he is the same person, or he would be throwing out many dollars for a post that is about begging.
There are a few people who really bug me on this forum, and I can't help but think they have alts
No you can't block a person by his IP, if you find someone offending or such, just press the ignore button.
