Title: Not got my coins.
Post by: mattsmithefc on December 07, 2015, 08:56:27 AM
I bought some bitcoins a few weeks ago, and still haven't got them in my BitCoin account. I'm very new to this all so excuse me.

I got them from CoinFloor. Any help?

Are you using Bitcoin Core? If yes, You need to wait until Bitcoin Core syncs with the blockchain.

What's your bitcoin address were you received the coins?

try to contact their support, and even post here btc tx id if you have one!
some times depends on the synch of your wallet, just wait and all going to be fix.
but did you have check block chain to see where this coin are?

I'm using Bitcoin Core as the wallet.

How does it sync with the blockchain?

with this wallet you need to wait the sync, only downloaded all past tx.
You have to wait, only this could be a secure way to don't lost your privatekey/ address.
But even you have check that the address you use on Coinfloor get a coin?

www.blockchain.info

paste here and see if it's 0 balance!

If you have more than one connection, the bottom should have a loading window which tells you how far it is from the latest block. To see all your transactions, you need to wait till the bar disappears and there is a tick at the bottom right. The speed is dependant on your CPU speed, IO speed and internet connection speed. CPU speed is likely to be the limiting variable here.

Check your task manager, the CPU usage of Bitcoin-qt should be high. Bitcoin Core is verifying the blocks after downloading them. It would be quite slow and it needs at least ~55GB+ of free space on your HDD.

holy crap 2 years behind! yeah you need to sync that wallet lol. Takes a long time to sync that much.
I was behind a year on one of my wallets and I had to leave computer on for a couple days to do it.

I remember a fast option (that I never used!) consist in download blockchain from torrent that could be more faster than normally sync.
Some one remember this solution? Or have a link?
Otherwise if you don't post the tx link you are not sure that these coin are "yours".
And in such case don't waste time, use another wallet!

Currently, with the headers-first synchronization, the client acts like a torrent client to download parts of blocks from other nodes and would thus have no benefits over using torrent. It also still needs to verify each block individually. After verifying, you still need to download the remaining blocks from peers. Waiting for it to synchronize is a much better solution.

OP, could you PM or write the address here?

download the blockchain from a torrent sounds incredibly dodgy, have you actually done that before? how would you know its legit?

I think Coinfloor isn't a scam site.

On the contrary, if you are using a Bitcoin-code wallet, then you need to sync the whole Blockchain before you can see your funds.

So, according to your bandwidth speed, you nee to let your computer do the full sync and then report here if you still don't see your funds or not.

Hope this clears your confusion.

Bitcoin Core verifies each blocks individually from the genesis block and makes sure that the block is legit. You will realise the speed slows down a lot when it gets closer to the current time. It is mainly because there is a lot of TXes in the blocks and it takes the client time to verify them.

As said, it isn't the best way. By downloading it using Bitcoin Core, you can verify and download it in parallel which is much much faster.

Instead, if you want your money (BTC) quick, just import the private keys into some other wallet from the bitcoin core ::)

-snip-
Why are you advising the OP not to export the private keys of his bitcoin addresses from the wallet.dat file?

Because handling unprotected private keys is the easiest way to make mistakes which can lead to lost coins. It should always be considered a last resort option and never done just to speed things up. Esp. if a simple -reindex will most likely fix the problem within a few hours.
Not sure if that's sarcasm(?).

Anyway, if OP absolutely have to,
Code:
1. Go to Help>Debug Window> Console
2. Type in this command: walletpassphrase (passphrase) 600
3. Type in this command: dumpprivkey (address here)
4. You should get a private key, copy that and import into your favourite wallet.
5. Problem solved.

There was a direct link on Bitcoin.org. As others have said Core now operates differently so a torrent isn't any faster.

As for the OP, import your wallet.dat into a lightweight wallet and off you go.

All this trouble would be spare if you use an online wallet such as Coinbase.

Why not coinbase? I hear that phone wallets seem better to privately own bitcoin. Blockchain.info or Coinbase.com are good, you can purchase bitcoins directly from Coinbase too and they will instantly apear in your wallet!

In this case it sounds like he's waiting for a transaction to an existing address. You have to import your details elsewhere to receive it. Opening a new wallet won't help.

Some people don't like the idea of a company controlling their private keys. I wouldn't be keen on the idea either but Coinbase is a solid choice for many.

Yes, it's not a good idea don't keep the private key.
ok some company are "strong" but a loss or an hacking could disrupt years of savings.
why not store by yourself the private key?
