If your not profitable with GPU's at the current reward and difficulty as of 11-28-2012 1:59 Pacific Time you don't have a clue what your doing. My GPU setup will be profitable with tweaks at 12.5BTC per block with this difficulty and up to 4.4 million.
Best part is coin price can be $6.00USD. I wont get rich but I wont pay a dime out of pocket for electricity and it is not free electric.

NO, I will not tell you my setup and how I cool, under/over volt and under/over clock the cards as needed. Anyone can figure it out with some work, I am no genius.

Since its cold here now my GPU heaters have meant no gas furnace use yet. Saving a few bucks on natural gas means even more profit than what BTC is actually mined and sold.

I run my mining on my computer which has 60W overhead, probably more if I'm using p2pool (more CPU usage, more HD usage)
I would break even at 160W power usage which is a rig with no CPU

I stopped mining, made a nice amount with satoshidice (begun with 20 in the wallet, ended over 440)

and now stopping mining fully.

All my gpu power goes to milkyway@home. No more electricity waste for a ending project, ill use the for something what the world can help :)

These stats are not reflecting reality. There is no where near -30% drop in the hash rate.

I'm quitting tonight, only kept mining because I didn't realize the block reward halved, I did know my breakeven.

2x Ati 5830s 520Mh/s 320w @ $0.15 Kw/h = no profit until bitcoins price greater than $16

I'm gonna ebay them and get a couple of 7850s instead, my rig is a gaming machine that gets left on.

If ASICs turn out to be a scam, and BTC gets above $16 because of it, I'll switch it back on for mining.

Oh gosh I hope it is still good for gaming! That's my big fear as well. ASICs come, I go back to games and....  I need a new video card. Probably wont buy used one off eBay if it does break.

I stopped mining.
Its pretty clear that unless you have really good GPU there is no point to mine.

Unless you're mining litecoin.

Except that litecoin is currently mining at an even bigger loss than btc.

I dont get the point of mining alt chains and expecting profit. Has any of them ever been profitable outside the initial pump & dump phase ?

Eh, let them waste their mining on worthless altcoins.  It's no ones fault but their own if they can't figure out that the alt chains are being used only by people who are emo-sad that they missed out on the initial BTC rise and fall and only want to cash out.

Mine will stay on, especially while it is cold out. But come ASIC's and summer.. that will probably be the end.

After doing the some estimates in my head and using the calculators out there I don't think it's practical for anyone to seriously get into mining now, most likely the only people who will be doing it now will do it for fun rather than profit, the profit taking clearly happened years ago when Bitcoin first started and it was easy to get.

Now we'll have to do actual work for Bitcoin but I consider that a good thing because the economy will grow :D

Indeed, I'd be supprised if I am the only miner that turned to selling goods for bitcoin.
